As usual Redskins Insider has the scoop:
7M is a lot healthier than 2M but not yet eight digits. I don't know if this influences anyone's feelings on the Smoot deal but I am ok with the 7M bonus. The 1M base guaranteed salary in 2007 is meaningless as that's "guaranteed" pretty much no matter what -- unless you sign some guy just to cut them. Or unless Smoot suffers a career ending injury between now and the season opener. Steer clear of boats.

Not a bad deal at all...
for the team or for Steamboat Freddie. The $2 mil seemed like they were killing space in the article and had no idea. And the $10 mil seemed like it piggybacked the Fletcher signing. So I think the $7 mil is reasonable. Good deal for both sides.

I think it worked out
Remember he scooped nearly 11M in signing bonuses in the 2005 market which was significantly smaller. I don't think 27 is over the hill by any means, which suggets to me that we either a) got a discount on him or b) the Vikings drastically overpaid. In either event I do not believe we overpaid drastically, though reasonable minds may disagree.Skin Patrol - March 6, 2007
