As for my pick...
I’m sticking w/ my guns and acquiring Donte Whitner….JC to BUF.
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
Chan Gailey likes running QB’s, I’m still thinking they’re going to draft Tebow.
Buffalo’s secondary is they’re only strength I don’t know why they would break that up. I definitely don’t think they’d give us they’re first rounder, are you implying a straight up trade?
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
Wait do you know something we don’t?
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
Dansby
5 years, $55 million
$30 million guaranteed.
Sugar - March 4, 2010
Here we go, another high priced player
JeanBaptiste - March 4, 2010
I agree
He will fit the defense whether we run a 3-4 or a 4-3.
tmarine17 - March 4, 2010
what if we run a "redskins defense"
skinsfan28 - March 4, 2010
Then we need
Peppers.
CarverM - March 4, 2010
Sproles
5yrs $34M
16M guaranteed
Scott E - March 4, 2010
But I really wanted the Miata, Kev
w/8-track!!
Scott E - March 4, 2010
Sproles was just tendered.
Gonna be in SD another year.
Horcasitas4 - March 4, 2010
Yes sir, for the low price of a first and third (which we don’t have) we can have an expensive and occasionally deadly 3rd down back and return specialist.
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
But
also an 8-track. It can do everything!
Scott E - March 5, 2010

piratedan7 - March 4, 2010
YES
and Pashos, and Gandy, and any other under 30 offensive linemen are out there. Let’s load up there so that we have some flexibility in the draft.
Lets say Okung is gone by 4, so we pick someone else. Then lets say someone like Brandon Graham (just an example. He’s fresh on my mind off another post) is available in round 2. We’re screwed whether we pick him or not. Either we get him, and pass on the O-lineman, or we get the O-linemen and pass on a steal.
Regardless, I think we should draft at least 2 O-linemen. But I think we need AT LEAST 5 new bodies along the line going into next year. So forget Peppers, forget Sproles, forget Rolle, maybe grab Dansby. But stockpile as many under 30 O-linemen with half a pulse as possible. Then we can dump the deadweight we have.
CJHutch - March 4, 2010
Finally somebody see's the light
+1000
JeanBaptiste - March 4, 2010
I agree with most of what you said.
1)Although, there is a 0% chance Okung will be gone. TB and Detroit themselves believe they dont need tackles.
2) Why forget Rolle? He is a good FS, which is a position we are desperate for. The only reason we shouldn’t sign him is if we are going to draft either Eric Berry or Nate Allen.
Horcasitas4 - March 4, 2010
I don’t like the move. I still have faith that Landry can pull through for us at FS
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
What I mean is I don’t want Rolle, Allen, or Berry (Berry because that would mean taking him with our fourth overall).
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
well my reasoning was
1) Kyle is already familiar with him
2) then we have someone on the O-line to help break down responsibilities to the other OL players
3) he’s under 30
4) no one seems to be talking about him
5) this is Allen and Shanahan, not Vincenzo (the enabled of The Dan)
piratedan7 - March 4, 2010
ACL repair and the 2010 season
It often takes 2 years to get performance up to pace. Pitts is already 30. Can the Skins wait?
Jefferson1935 - March 4, 2010
that may be true for RB's
not sure if it’s appliccable for OL’s, simply because it’s not as if lineman have to cut and change direction like backs and receivers and DB’s do. He also went down early in the season, so he should be farther along in his rehab.
piratedan7 - March 4, 2010
Dansby
4yrs $29M
Surprised that no one has picked Peppers…maybe that is just wishful thinking on our parts….
Hustler of Culture - March 4, 2010
My parts want no part of Peppers.
Yet, suspect the trend will continue.
Scott E - March 4, 2010
Anquan Boldin
Was tendered for a third rounder, too bad we don’t have one. I would love to see him in a Redskins uniform but he wants money and has injury problems. He would also hurt the development of our young receivers too but I dont know.
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
Oh and I know he’s a restricted free agent, thats not my guess ha I was just throwing that out there.
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
3 years too late
he’s a talent, no doubt. But I say we stick with guys under 30. Besides, I’m still hoping anything he can do Devin can do better. Oh, except pout.
CJHutch - March 4, 2010

Any ideas/rumors on Yoder's fate?
Scott E - March 4, 2010
havent heard anyhing but id trade cooley and keep yoder- esp if they are going to spend the fourth pick on a qb. you just cant afford two all pro tight ends when you have no left or right tackle. those positions really need to come out of the first two rounds.
les boulez bomber - March 4, 2010
I agree.
I could live with Yoder and Sleepy, or Yoder, Sleepy and Cooley, but I’m not happy with just Cooley and Sleepy.
Scott E - March 4, 2010
Yoder is a decent FB as well
BayAreaBullet - March 4, 2010
He can do everything!
Surprised he wasn’t tendered for a 1st and 3rd!!

Scott E - March 4, 2010
Quinn Ojinnaka (RFA), G/OT, Falcons. Age: 26.
Tendered by Falcons (5th round)
Quinn Ojinnaka is available for a fifth-round pick. He has starting experience and can play multiple positions. Teams in search of quality depth up front should consider giving up their fifth-round pick for the versatile Ojinnaka.
He sucks so we will sign him for 1.8mm per season, draft a tackle in the second round and say the line is fixed
les boulez bomber - March 4, 2010
Aren't Falcons rebuilding their OLine?
Looks like they are trying to get something for nothing.
Scott E - March 4, 2010
Even the jaded cynic ScottE
does not think Shanny & Co will pass up any opportunity to make major OLine strides – at least 5 new linemen in camp via UFA, FA, and draft. Maybe a few off the street, too.
Scott E - March 4, 2010
hope to god
it’s more draft than anything else
Rekka - March 4, 2010
Yes
but at times one needs to throw as many bodies at the problem as possible and let
godthe Shannys sort it out later. Either way, it is at least a 2 draft problem to kill and, hopefully, an every year occurrence thereafter – not a problem, but a focus of attention.Scott E - March 4, 2010
well, i def hope you are right. i have yet to see it but will happliy give props. but i dont think u can get a real franchise left or right tackle after the second round. i am sure it is possible, but why should i give the benefit of the doubt after all i have been through- lol
i will say this- how they tendered people leads me to believe they want at least another first or second round pick. so i am thinking they want to get the qb#4 and two tackles with the other first/second rounders. after qb and O linemen, i think the only other possible consideration would be a NT.
les boulez bomber - March 4, 2010
I can see that scenario playing out.
Not particularly thrilled with it, but then again, I won’t lose my job if it doesn’t pan out.
Scott E - March 4, 2010
i hate to see ticket prices in a couple years. i think people kid themself when they say its dannys money. ultimately, it is always the fans money. maybe he can dome off the stadium and put seats on a glass floor overlooking play. otherwise, start saving boyz…these constant mistakes are gonna cost us :(
les boulez bomber - March 4, 2010
Bring on the $18 cheap domestics!

Scott E - March 5, 2010

has been improving in pass protection blocking, but still has not rated that well in run blocking and penalties. http://profootballfocus.com/by_player.php?tab=by_player&season=2009&surn=O&playerid=3084&group=1. What else can the Skins get with a 5th round pick?
Probably someone better than Quinn.

Terrydc828 - March 4, 2010
But he's like 6' 5" and 320 lbs
Seems big for a Shanny type Oline guy. Also, wasn’t the Green Bay line almost as sucky as ours last year?
Scott E - March 4, 2010
they were bad because Clifton was hurt....They picked back up when he returned
He’s kinda old and injury prone though. Might have good value as backup or stop gap though.
BayAreaBullet - March 4, 2010
Stereo type of the Shanny o-line.
It may be past tense. Snyder is more willing to spend than the Denver owner. The signing of Mike Williams does not support the smaller o-line notion. Shanahan gave his reasons for signing M. Williams and it seemed to be based on MW motivation last season.
It may be too soon to tell what the blocking scheme will be.
Jefferson1935 - March 6, 2010
Per RI
“… In fact, Clifton’s agent was at Redskins Park on Thursday. Jimmy Sexton also represents Samuels and attended his long-time client’s retirement news conference. Clifton is an unrestricted free agent, but reportedly already has an offer of $5 million to return to Green Bay next season. According to the Yahoo Sports report, Clifton, a 10-year veteran, is seeking a deal that would pay him $7 million a year.”
Jefferson1935 - March 5, 2010
Brian Westbrook is my vote
If he even counts, since he will be cut, and won’t actually be a FA.
Spitman - March 4, 2010
Well
he owes us a few wins over Philly, having killed us over the years.
Scott E - March 4, 2010
definitely
you see a lot of guys get shifted from team to team within the NFC East a lot. Could wind up that Antonio Pierce is the first one coming to the Redskins, then.
Spitman - March 4, 2010
No his neck is worse then we think he was a staple in that giants D
Skiidmarkz - March 4, 2010
CB Leigh Bodden $9.725 signing bonus, $27 million for 4 years.
Knighthawk - March 4, 2010
Nice pick
Sure he’s not too under the radar for Danny? A little long in the tooth, but a hometown guy, so it might work – especially if we get a number 1 for Carlos…well, that’s not going to happen.
Scott E - March 4, 2010
Bodden is probably worth the bucks.

The package deal...
I think Shanny is smart enough to spread the wealth around – instead of one or two ‘major’ guys, he’ll load up with some over-valued contracts on mostly younger, but solid guys.
This will include:
- Rex Hadnot, G (28) – 1 year, $1.7M – more a stop-gap / depth
- Chad Clifton, LT (34) – 2 years, $7.3M OR his RT counterpart in Green Bay – Chad Clifton (33), 2 years, $5.2M
- Mike Brisiel, G (27) – with Shanny Jr. in Houston, on IR most of the year – 4 years, $3.2M (unless he’s an exclusive rights FA, as I’m sure Houston will give him a contract)
- Jeremy Bridges, take 2 – 2 years, $4.2M
KenPat - March 4, 2010
Chad Clifton
is a good pass protection blocker, but had a lot of penalties (half in one game against Detroit). He would be good for transition with a rookie at left tackle. He is visiting the Redskins on 4/5/10. He shared an agent with Samuels.
Jefferson1935 - March 5, 2010
Chad used us
to get leverage with GB and that was soon finallized.
The thing is, I think Allen and Shanhan will accept interest from anyone that wants to visit, but we now have a savvy FO that means that not every move or every visit is an indication of an impending contract. They can use some moves by players against agents just as they themselves are being used. It’s no longer the requirement to be first in line with a buckt of money. Olders vets at the right price, younger vets preferred.
piratedan7 - March 6, 2010
Artis Hicks was signed by the Skins.
He is one of the older vets, age 32, 6’4", 335 lbs. He is versatile, having played LT, RT, LG, and RG. At this point in his career, he is a backup OL. His 2009 performance while not great was better than what we had at these positions most of the season, except LG. In 2009, He played in 16 games and started 3. He has not been a regular starter since 2006 when he started 14 games.
Jefferson1935 - March 6, 2010
I gotta believe
that his versatility in being a capable “plug and play guy” all along the line was the key here. Especially considering the sieve that was the ’Skins O-Line last year.

I wonder if dumping Betts means we are making a run at LT or C. Taylor. I guess Shanny could also work his late round magic. Honestly I wouldn’t mind seeing (a rejuvenated) Portis, LT, and Aldrige on 3rd down.
ILMskin - March 4, 2010
I say absolutely not regarding LT.
Why do we want two run down running backs?
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
Rejuvenated
I mean’t for that to apply to Portis and LT
ILMskin - March 4, 2010
I know what you mean, but I still have my doubts that Portis can be rejuvenated. Don’t get me wrong I think Protis and LT have a little left in the tank but it’s too much of a risk having them as our backs.

We can’t forget Shanny has no allegiance to these guys and no one is safe. I don’t think we can rule out a trade of Cooley or anyone.
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
Good News!
Glad to see this. I liked some of these guys, but it is time to rebuild.
Keep up the good work FO, stay away from pacman seriously.
Al_CaPWNED - March 4, 2010
if this FO needs to be told that
then all this cleaning house mean nothing
Rekka - March 4, 2010
Anymore cuts coming?
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
I wouldn't be suprised
Rekka - March 4, 2010
A lot of these guys
I’ve really liked as Redskins, but they are truly past prime and not exactly premier players, ever. Bring in the yute.
Scott E - March 4, 2010
yep
smutsboy1 - March 5, 2010
All players cut are over the age of 30...
The quotes of the cut players are pretty raw…more on those soon.
Randle El: “Never saw this coming.”
Griff said he had a great 10 years and might retire.
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
Where are you getting all of this?
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
Betts was just on 106.7 and
Cartwright is supposed to come on in a little
shvd98z24 - March 4, 2010
What did he say?
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
He actually played it cool....
Said he was disappointed but expected it. Carlos was on earlier talking about his 1st roung tender…..he wants out of town….bad!
shvd98z24 - March 4, 2010
Cartwright is on right now....you can stream it.....
just search 106.7 the fan
shvd98z24 - March 4, 2010
appreciate it..
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
I'm gonna recap all these quotes tonite for a post...lot of stuff.
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
ARE: Never saw this coming
LOL – he never saw the punt team coming either. Just automatic fair catch signal. That will get you longevity in this league…not. What did he have a .6 yd/catch average, too. Pahleeze.
Scott E - March 5, 2010
Jamal Williams just got cut
I think we make a strong play for him, no idea how much we’re gonna throw out for another DT though
Nobetterthenbob - March 4, 2010
He was horrid last year and then hurt
I wouldn’t take him for more than the minimium
BayAreaBullet - March 4, 2010
antrelle rolle was cut
Wants like 8M a year though
Rekka - March 4, 2010
No thanks…
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
at that price
me neither, just thought I’d share with everyone since we were just talking about him the other day
Rekka - March 4, 2010
Is someone going to give him that much?
CarverM - March 4, 2010
vincenzo may have
Rekka - March 4, 2010
Elite safety money is 5-6M a year
I’d pay him 3 a year and thats it.
BayAreaBullet - March 4, 2010
yea Adrian Wilson is better than him
and is only making 6m+
Rekka - March 4, 2010
of course if anyone drafts Berry in the top 5 they'll be paying him 10-12M a year
which would skew things.
BayAreaBullet - March 4, 2010
Pashos.....
12 million guaranteed over 5
shvd98z24 - March 4, 2010
i thought pashos got franchised?
Rekka - March 4, 2010
I may have missed it.....
been on the go quite a bit lately…..I am falling behind!
shvd98z24 - March 4, 2010
i could be wrong myself
I’m double checking now
Rekka - March 4, 2010
I could be mistaken, but I think the 49ers used the tag on their NT
ILMskin - March 4, 2010
That sounds right.....
if I ever finish my damn work….I can research some myself….haha!
shvd98z24 - March 4, 2010
teams do have an add'l tag this year....
I think it’s a transition tag they can also apply to one player…..don’t know the details of it though
shvd98z24 - March 4, 2010
They franchised NT Aubrayo Franklin
there is a transition tag this year also though……but I don’t see anything showing me they used it
shvd98z24 - March 4, 2010
you're right
my bad
Rekka - March 4, 2010
All good Rekka
shvd98z24 - March 4, 2010
Anybody firgure out....
how much cap space has been cleared with the 6 cuts so far?
shvd98z24 - March 4, 2010
I thought Kevin said 10.5M
Rekka - March 4, 2010
Good....still not enough for Peppers....
he supposedly turned down 14 mil a year from Carolina already!
shvd98z24 - March 4, 2010
It's over $12 mil now
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
Not that cap space matters...
Since this year will be uncapped.
KenPat - March 5, 2010
Cap space matters alot
if you expect there to be football in 2011.
CarverM - March 5, 2010
Right on Carver....
teams still need to be wise….just bc this year is uncapped….doesn’t mean next year won’t. You have to make plans as if nothing has changed unless you sign everyone to one year deals!
shvd98z24 - March 6, 2010
Snyder still has a box of Happy Gilmore checks
I know it’s a new regime but I’m guessing that Dan still has a few Happy checks laying in a corner waiting to be endorsed.
RPMontana - March 4, 2010
we all know nothing has changed
Lancers25 - March 4, 2010
Dansby
17 million guarenteed.
Area 51 Forever - March 4, 2010
Someone beat you to that up above
vt2 or something
CarverM - March 4, 2010
Add Marcus Mason to the list of cuts
sorry CJHutch
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
aww man
Rekka - March 4, 2010
Bruce Allen speaking LIVE at 7pm....
http://redskins.com/
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
when does free agency start 12:01? does that mean peppers will be signed at 12:20
Lancers25 - March 4, 2010
yea, in 6 hours.
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
FA start
Is it 3/5/10, 12:01 AM or 11:59 PM?
Donnio1234 - March 4, 2010
12:01. when they can start signing players.so peppers or anyone else can be signed before 12:30 thats my prediction anyway
Lancers25 - March 4, 2010
danny hasmt learned at all! high priced guys wont win a championship. if they sign peppers i think it will be a huge mistake
Lancers25 - March 4, 2010
Id be shocked if they get Peppers
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
dansby, maybe. i would like to see them not sign peppers and sign dunta robinson or antrell rolle
Lancers25 - March 4, 2010
Dansby's plane just landed in MIA...thats a bad sign for signing w/ WAS
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
do we see maybe collins or colt gone next?
Lancers25 - March 4, 2010
im surprised Todd wasnt cut
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
is there a deadline for when you have to stop cutting players before the free agency period starts
Lancers25 - March 4, 2010
Yes
If a player is cut, his salary for the remainder of his contract is neither paid nor counted against the salary cap for that team.
But after free agency, they count against the cap and thats when roster bonuses and any other incentives are due.
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
Just covering his tracks
The real question is where is Redskin 1?
RPMontana - March 4, 2010
I used to be able to track it via http://flightaware.com/
But he caught on and blocked it.
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
then why didnt he do that for when the plane went to denver. i mean come on danny, you block it for free agency but not when courting your next coach
Lancers25 - March 4, 2010
someone noticed the tail in Denver and then it hit twitter world
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
That’s hilarious…
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
he is making sure no one can track its movements
Lancers25 - March 4, 2010
He learned from his buddy Cheney
BayAreaBullet - March 4, 2010
I must say
I don’t understand Griffin and Cartwright. Other than age, these two are at a very good price in 2010 and bring good value. Both of these guys are humble and still bring alot on the field. They would have made great role models for younger guys coming in also. I’m not talking about being loyal, I’m just saying from a purely value point of view.
Everyone else I understand, their salaries exploded and may have been cut anyway.
They must be planning on brining in many more free agents that I thought. We certaintly don’t have the draft picks and not many guys if any from practice sqaud are capable IMO.
Interesting though.
skinsymets - March 4, 2010
its all bout the age, plus danny want peppers
Lancers25 - March 4, 2010
Well, the fact Griff is gonna retire speaks volumes
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
well then it makes sense now they would release him due with the injury bug and all that. would he retire as a giant or a skin?
Lancers25 - March 4, 2010
Skin in my opinion
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
If Griff was a horse he would be glue by right now
He was pretty bad last year.
BayAreaBullet - March 4, 2010
Peppers/Orakpo/Haynesworth is unstoppable pass-rush.
I don’t care what anyone says about Peppers, he’s a beauty and a beast.
SSBlitz - March 4, 2010
We were top 5 in sacks this past year I think.
So its not like pass rush is a priority. we should spend that money on a DB.
Horcasitas4 - March 4, 2010
this team should not be down
with paying Rolle 8M a year.
Rekka - March 4, 2010
Agreed.
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
Coverage Sacks!
Get both at the same time.
Jefferson1935 - March 4, 2010
No sir,
I cannot agree. Who’s going to be doing the covering? OLB’s don’t just rush the ball, if we put Orakpo and Peppers out there at the same time it would be bad news with quick dumpoffs.
and why does Hogs Haven tell me I’m spelling Orakpo’s name wrong?
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
nope
smutsboy1 - March 5, 2010
3 more cuts added to the list up top...no one major....Todd Collins the most notable.
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
‘tis a shame to see Griffin Cut. Always liked him. Smoot’s mouth will hopefully stay with the team in some capacity.
lynxtheone - March 4, 2010
i was hopin we would keep eddie williams
seemed like a viable pass catching full back, all he would need to do is get his blocking up to snuff
Rekka - March 4, 2010
ehhh
we already got Yoder and Sellers
BayAreaBullet - March 4, 2010
Sellers cant catch or block
Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
whoop, there it is
Rekka - March 4, 2010
He can catch
so long as Hunter is throwing
CarverM - March 4, 2010
That play defined the Redskins last season, desperate.
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
Sellers
It’s Sellers that should be cut. He let the team down many times, and is a divisive personality.
Donnio1234 - March 4, 2010
mmh
I don’t see him as divisive, he’s a jokester. but I would have rather seen him cut than eddie williams. at the least we should bring in another person ina UDFA
Rekka - March 4, 2010
Sellers is great.
He showed some lack of effort at times last year, but he’s still a great FB.
SSBlitz - March 4, 2010
lack of effort is not something a football team needs
that’s how dropped balls, and tackles in the backfield happen
Rekka - March 4, 2010
I think with the right motivation
Sellers should show up in much better shape and focus. You cannot replace his incredible size/speed combo easily. With motivation and focus he deserves a spot on the team.
Scott E - March 5, 2010
don't have a choice now
williams is gone
Rekka - March 5, 2010
And his hurdling ability
Good for one or two every game.
SSBlitz - March 5, 2010
I always wanted him to
hurdle the LB and land squarely on some poor hapless CB. Just one of those things you want to see every so often.
Scott E - March 5, 2010
Todd, Colt
I hope this means Colt will get a chance to show what he can do. I was a little dismayed to hear that Shanahan had never seen him play (on tape, anyway). Todd was a good man, too, but definitely not the QB of the future.
Donnio1234 - March 4, 2010
I doubt they keep Colt
WaPo has been reporting for weeks that if Colt hadn’t gotten injured they were gonna cut him and that the current regime respects Zorn’s decidedly negative opinion on Colt.
BayAreaBullet - March 4, 2010
One can only hope.
killianskid34 - March 4, 2010
ehh I hope we get someone with a chance of actually being good
BayAreaBullet - March 4, 2010
Colt
I missed that in the Post. But I had a strong feeling that Zorn didn’t like him (repeated condescening and negative language, which I figured was partly to justify his selection of JC as the QB before even one workout). He got rid of him (to IR) as soon as possible, too. On Sellers: replays (and pointed out by Cris Collingsworth) showed that Sellers inexcusably missed – didn’t even try – on crucial blocks for both Portis and Betts in goal line situations. Just plain wiffed. Clinton was 100% justified to complain, and Sellers laughed it off, didn’t admit it, and managed to get the press to blame CP. A shoddy performance, and he ought to be cut before he does more damage.
Donnio1234 - March 4, 2010
I’m not 100 percentage positive but I’m pretty sure that’s not how it went down…
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
Todd was no surprise
and I wish him well. Part of an era where at one time there were like 6 U-M QBs in the league. Unheard of. Especially from a school not known for its QBs traditionally.
Scott E - March 5, 2010
And one that has sucked so hard at football
in recent years.
CarverM - March 5, 2010
Thanks for taking it easy on me, Carver
Do you have morning rugby practice, too? :) Seriously, no one feels my pain re: U-M football more than I.
Scott E - March 5, 2010
I go to UVa
I KNOW about bad football teams.
CarverM - March 5, 2010
Respectability is cyclical, generally
Fortunately or unfortunately we are not used to that. Not bragging, just the way it is.
Scott E - March 5, 2010
I can understand that.
I played at a small college, and its very cyclical on the DIII level, to the tune of every 4-6 years.
CarverM - March 5, 2010
Wait do you play rugby at UVA?
travisjh86 - March 5, 2010
I believe he is a member of a club team in Charlottesville
if I recall correctly.
Hey, Carver. Did you play rugby in all that snow? Must have been awesome!!
Scott E - March 5, 2010
Yeah
Virginia Rugby Club actually. Nah, we couldn’t play in that crap. We’ve had to practice in a gym because our field is saturated. It sucks.
CarverM - March 5, 2010
You know Stebbins?
travisjh86 - March 5, 2010
I don't really know any of the undergrads, no.
CarverM - March 5, 2010
Ah, alright. Thought I’d ask.
travisjh86 - March 5, 2010
Do you know of Dick Voris?
He was one of my high school coaches before he coached Hartnell JC to the junior college Rose Bowl. Unfortunately his teams a UVa set the NCAA losing record during his tenure. The academic standards at UVa in those days did not help recruiting much.
Jefferson1935 - March 17, 2010
Nah,
I’m only 24, and there have been enough recent bad teams that he isn’t talked about much. Looking him up on Wikipedia, I now understand why, 1-29 is pretty bad. Hell, that’s actually my varsity record from high school, coincidentally.
CarverM - March 17, 2010

Horcasitas4 - March 4, 2010
I think the Skins will trade for Namdi A.
Horcasitas4 - March 4, 2010
what do you think we’d give them for it? I don’t see that being possible without giving the Raiders alot. You’re talking about Nnamdi Asomugha. I have absolutely no idea how to pronounce his name
travisjh86 - March 4, 2010
Nom-dee Ah-sum-wah
wildinout - March 17, 2010
TIME TO BLOW YOUR MIND
Aaron Kampman, 15mil guaranteed
I think the Skins are gonna throw truck loads of money at Peppers, lose, then turn some of that money back around at Kampman, and we snag him in the end.
I actually think throwing money blindly at people will not work so quickly this year like it did with Haynesworth.
BigOLinemen - March 4, 2010
Kampman isn't good in a 3-4
thats why he wont be a packer next year
Horcasitas4 - March 4, 2010
wasn't kampman
having problems this year in green bay with the switch to the 3-4?
Rekka - March 4, 2010
I won't saying I wanted him
But he was having issues, but he should move back to DE if he does come here.
Remember, this is who we think will get signed, not who we want. I don’t really want Peppers or Kampman, especially not Kampman in a 3-4, but I see him as our first prize.
BigOLinemen - March 4, 2010
Makes no sense if we are transitioning to a 3-4
That’s his big issue in GB. He wants 4-3.
Scott E - March 5, 2010
Ben Hamilton
$2M guaranteed
Alex - March 4, 2010
WHERE'S PORTIS' NAME??
I just woke up, saw this mine field. I almost blew my load when I saw Randle El, but I gritted my teeth to wait for Portis, which woulda given me ultimate release. Talk about a let down. UGH.
CJHutch - March 4, 2010
blame the previous FO for the blue balls CJ
Rekka - March 4, 2010
Portis is a favorite of shanahan. But let him come to camp out if shape again we will send his ass packing…
Skiidmarkz - March 4, 2010
too much guaranteed money.
it’s not worth cutting him.
smutsboy1 - March 5, 2010
i think you are right. in the end, i think they can trade him and throw in cash to make it palatable
les boulez bomber - March 5, 2010

Kevin Ewoldt - March 4, 2010
3 years?!?
He better be riding pine after this season
CarverM - March 4, 2010

smutsboy1 - March 5, 2010

Skiidmarkz - March 4, 2010
Shanahan
He loves that guy why else would you get rid of betts/cartwright
Skiidmarkz - March 4, 2010
because he's going to get the majority of his guaranteed money anyway
so you keep him so it’s one less thing to worry about
Rekka - March 4, 2010
Absolutely i agree i think Portis will be fine. I can honestly see us gettin LT.
Skiidmarkz - March 4, 2010
that wasn't an endorsement of CP
I was just rationalizing why he would still be here. Shanahan was the one that shipped him out in the first place after back to back 1000 yard seasons.
Rekka - March 4, 2010
who cares how "Portis will be"
the Redskins are better off dumping him while they can. He’ll be a mediocre back AT best this year, and even worse the next two or 3 years when the team is STILL on the hook for paying him. Why not cut him now, while there is no cap hit.
I say this, of course, knowing full well that they may be doing that anyway, just down the road a little. Hell, who knows, maybe they wanna make him suffer a little bit. Allen mentioned wanting to give the rest of these guys time in the market. Maybe they wanna give CP as little time as possible, since they’ll be paying him anyway.
CJHutch - March 5, 2010

So does anyone think we trade Cooley
Skiidmarkz - March 4, 2010

Too bad for Peppers that the Skins won’t be driving up the price.

What team is this? All I see are words like Restraint, and Patience, and Needs, and 2nd Tier, and I’m thoroughly confused.
RPMontana - March 5, 2010
I nearly passed out
when I saw that tweet about Allen saying don’t worry about the big name FAs last night, go after the secondary guys.
Rekka - March 5, 2010
I knew all that crap about the Redskins
being interested in so&so was bullshit.
CarverM - March 5, 2010
wow
I guess Danny’s really not in control anymore. 45 minutes and into FA and nothing
Rekka - March 5, 2010
THIS JUST IN!!!!
The Washington Redskins just signed veteran wide receiver Ray Carruth to a long term deal. Specifics of the contract are unknown but believed to be in the $4.25 Million/year for 18 to 24 years. He will have until October 22, 2018 to prove his worth.
travisjh86 - March 5, 2010
Phillip Daniels signed his offer
Longest tenured Redskin currently…Sellers is in 2nd place…Cooley is in 3rd place.
Kevin Ewoldt - March 5, 2010
Am I the only one
that thinks it’s hilarious that the whole NFL world is wondering where the Redskins are with Danny checkbook?
Rekka - March 5, 2010
I think I’m having a harder time grasping the situation than them
travisjh86 - March 5, 2010
Bruce Allen just commented Skins have no interest in Peppers
Never even called him.
Kevin Ewoldt - March 5, 2010
you shoulda gave out a warning before that one Kev
I just damn near had a heart attack,
Never even called??!?! It’s enough to make a man cry…
On the other hand, we all know that when Peppers said he was talking to us as well he was just trying to drive up the price.
Rekka - March 5, 2010
Dan Snyder
The sportswriters gave Dan so much grief over “high priced free agents” that he may have just decided that, since he cannot buy a winner, he will just budget some amount, let his management team do the thinking, and hope for the best. After all the devastating losses, he’s just not going to go running around, obsessing about some big name player. So this may be a very quiet FA period, no big names. That’s what the wise guy critics wanted, so give it to them. We can probably eke out 4 wins with what we have and can get in the draft. Good for him!
Donnio1234 - March 5, 2010
Anyone check Fed Ex Field for Dan
I’m guessing Bruce gave Dan a lighter and a pile of cash and sent him to Fed Ex Field. Just light your money up in peace and let us run the football team and FA. This way everybody wins.
RPMontana - March 5, 2010
sounds plausible
Rekka - March 5, 2010
lotta conjecture in there.
Snyder’s got a loooooong way to go before he gets ANY benefit of the doubt.
smutsboy1 - March 5, 2010

CarverM - March 5, 2010
Dan Snyder
Don’t get me wrong, he’s the boss, and nobody – but nobody – sends him anywhere. But he very possibly just found out that it is too difficult and heartbreaking to get too involved. Just stand back, let Bruce and Mike handle things, keep them if we win, bounce them if we lose. Supervise, but don’t interfere on details. On Peppers, it’s not surprising – they are concentrating on offense. I hope that means they are not planning to switch to the 3-4 anytime soon (which would demand some new players).
Donnio1234 - March 5, 2010
Mike Williams just signed a deal...
Good value for RG…if gets healthy can compete to start and def a capable backup.
Kevin Ewoldt - March 5, 2010
Big Mike
That is good news. I always wondered how good he was, but began hearing good things about him at RG. He could be why they let Randy T. go. If we’re decent at C and G, it leaves the two tackle slots to fill (I can’t see Heyer as anything more than a backup, and don’t know about Levi Jones at RT, except that he’s not great at LT). Grossman could be good at QB, and could possibly even beat out JC. Or maybe Colt could beat out both of them.
Donnio1234 - March 5, 2010
I didn't think he played well at guard.
He’s very immobile, which means he can’t pull, and he’s not great in pass blocking situations.
smutsboy1 - March 5, 2010
With thoughts like this
I’m surprised no one has called 911. Hope everything turns out alright and you get back to reality soon. (just kidding, but…really. I hope Colt learned something at school, or he gets a break in the CFL, because I don’t see it happening here.)

Thats not good news, signing Mike Williams to a multi year deal is a project and means we’re desperate on the line.

you thought we weren't desperate?
I have no problem with working him out at backup money. It’s not like we are gonna put together 8 great linemen in one year.

Definitely not across the bridge.
It was on that main drag that runs down to the harbor. towards the land-end of it, if that makes sense. Right next to a little parking garage.

huh?
travisjh86 - March 5, 2010
No we all know we’re desperate on the line, but I was hoping we had enough of a plan not to bring Mike Williams back. I know some people are cheering for him and I hope he proves me wrong, but he didn’t suck for no reason.
travisjh86 - March 5, 2010
A couple of things
he was always supposed to be a multi-year project who got called into action sooner than planned.
Also, you just don’t find guys his size sitting under every other tree in the forrest.
And finally, I think he’s basically a good guy who has been working really hard to be the player he was projected to be – and he was hampered by an ankle or groin injury which hurt his performance. So I think he still has upside to be a solid starter or at least solid, inexpensive backup.

he's definitely willing to throw the ball downfield

Rekka - March 5, 2010
I pretty much had this as a given
Question is: will it be a fair competition between Rexxy and JC?
Not the first time a coach leaned hard on a favorite over the more talented player. Just sayin.
Scott E - March 5, 2010
i think someone scoops up jason campbell for a 2nd round pick. that is a decent deal. he doesnt throw many interceptions! coaches like that!
les boulez bomber - March 5, 2010
if that happened, i could live with both second rounders being tackles for the future and them signing one of the QB at #4. though i really would like to have okung anchor us for a decade.

but jason can't go anywhere for less than a 1st

Rekka - March 5, 2010
Like I've said
it’s a given. I hope it is a tough, fair competition and Rexxy becomes an excellent and never used back up because our OLine is great again and JC never gets his uni dirty.
OK – it will be good to have a competent backup either way.
Scott E - March 5, 2010
I would question the wording there
I’m sure they were all on the same flight, but I’d say the Defense was flying the plane, if you catch my drift. Rexxy was more the game manager than the put ’em on my shoulders type QB, IMO.
Scott E - March 5, 2010
That's exactly what I envision for this franchise
be it Campbell or be it Rexy
CarverM - March 5, 2010
Well that's true!
A totally aggressive D with high sack, TOvr, and 3n-outs. Hold other teams to <17 pts/game.
A moderately lights up offense with running for good ball control and solid passing attack using 2TE and the 3Xs a game punch deep to keep opposing D honest. Avg. 27pts/game.
STs get and prevent good field position. Don’t give up HR, and occasionally spring one with our new game changer (whomever that may be)
Ta dah!!

What do you guys think about making a trade for Gaither from the Ravens
he only got a first round tender and they might not wanna pay big bucks for 2 left tackles. Ravens seem open to moving him. Maybe this year’s 2nd and next years 4th? If we feel like we can put a decent team together this year maybe offer our 2011 first rounder? What do you guys think?
BayAreaBullet - March 5, 2010
Total Crap. Get off the crack and meth. We do not want to lose ANY picks.
TheOverLordMarshl - March 5, 2010
?
He’s a really good LT. I think a second and a 4th is pretty good value for a proven top flight LT who is only 23.
BayAreaBullet - March 5, 2010
They would never take that deal
Because he’s a 23 yr old with huge upside.
RPMontana - March 5, 2010
well they put only a first round tender not the first and a third
Which would indicate they are cool with him leaving for a 1st rounder. They might not want to pay him and Oher when they can take another pick and get a RT and move Oher over. On the Football today podcast they were talking about how some teams with a late first might sign him and give up the pick.
BayAreaBullet - March 5, 2010
He would be cheaper than any guy we got a #4 as well.
BayAreaBullet - March 5, 2010
Williams, Brennan
Of course, Big Mike will have to compete for the job, and could easily end up a backup or gone. Did he sign for the veterans minimum? On Colt, I was kidding a little, but the fact is, Zorn did not like him and never gave him a chance, and tried to change his throwing motion. Colt showed flashes of talent in his rookie year and hardly played last year. We don’t know how good he is (as with the draft possibles). Shanahan said he had not seen Colt on tape. So I consider him an unknown quantity, and he’s still on the roster. Shanahan is supposedly not totally sold on JC, so there could be a competition. Colt would be a long shot.
Donnio1234 - March 5, 2010
I grew up in Hawaii
so I actually have a soft spot for Colt. Agree he probably didn’t get a fair chance between Zorn and injury. Maybe we keep him as a 3rd stringer, he gets to play and shines. Long shot, but..
Scott E - March 5, 2010
I think the fact that he got worse from year 1 to Year 2
is pretty telling. I think he got as fair a shot as he deserved.
BayAreaBullet - March 5, 2010
Wasn't just Zorn
A lot of the coaching staff was puzzled/irritated with how cocky he was considering he had done less than nothing. I think the Cult of Colt got to his head a little.
RPMontana - March 5, 2010
I mean he is a guy who has literally done nothing besides have a good quarter against non-nfl players a year ago
and it has been downhill since for him. But I guess he’s good and Zorn is just a big meanie.
BayAreaBullet - March 5, 2010
There you go
bigmedium meanieall fixed up nice n tiddy.
Scott E - March 5, 2010
ha
BayAreaBullet - March 5, 2010
Colt - cocky?
Interesting, but a little hard to believe (and one of many hit-jobs coming out of the Redskin organization). He didn’t sound cocky when I heard him. It has to be hard on him, trying to stay positive, knowing he was on the black list. As to the other coaches, remember, in most organizations, if the boss is really down on somebody, everybody else falls into line. Nobody is going to contradict the boss. Just like no government scientist is going to say he doesn’t believe in man-made global warming (the ludicrous nonsense being foisted on the American people). Bureaucrats (and I was one) will not tell the King he has no clothes. Zorn is not mean, just incompetent. He quickly decided that Colt was not a good QB, and named him as third string before the preseason started. He could be right, but Colt never had a chance – less than 4 preseason quarters, working behind our terrible third string line, and throwing to the same group of underperforming receivers JC struggled with all year. I don’t say that Colt is the best QB on the team, just that he should have a chance, or be cut (so he can possibly hook up with a team that wants him). He was very successful in college, on a par with many of the top rated QBs in this draft.

I’m from Chicago, and still have a soft spot for them. They play with fire and passion, and can be great (clobbered Minnesota when the Vikes needed the win). The defense used to be awesome. I think Lovie knows Defense but not Offense. Very dangerous team.
Donnio1234 - March 5, 2010
It will be interesting to see what they do to
get their offense organized and in synch. It was rather interesting to see Cutler’s progress with that team – or lack thereof.
Scott E - March 5, 2010
well it hurts when they didn't have a LT or decent recievers or running backs
I think the Martz hiring is gonna be a debacle for them.

how do these guys stay employed? Yeah, I know a Super Bowl, but still. All else is recent failure.
Scott E - March 5, 2010

They’re never the same after a season or 2 with him becuase of all the hits they take. There was even talk of them trading Olsen because Martz doesn’t use TE’s.

He's the Spurrier of the Pros
When he has a mega line and a great trio of receivers and one of the best RBs in the game, he can have success (I’m serious, that’s all he needs). Otherwise he should be locked up for assault. He gets QBs killed.
RPMontana - March 5, 2010

Ok – two with Alridge. What does that mean for FA and the draft? On the Bears – Johnny Knox is a comer.

Next year (2011) will be insane
Assuming that there is a CBA signed, next year there will be 2 and a half years worth of free agents hitting the market (the half coming from all the PO’ed RFAs that got insultingly low tenders). It will be a Free Agent Bonanza. That will be scary times indeed.

The Giants were considering Atogwe before they signed A. Rolle. I don’t know the tender for Atogwe. His stats did not look that bad on Pro Football Focus. On the other hand, Rolle’s stats sucked but he was a pro-bowl player and had a lot of interceptions.

None of these guys are big ticket players. And I trust Shanny to pick his own spots with guys with out spoken personalities. Something tells me Shanny won’t let any kind of soap opera get started in Asburn.
smutsboy1 - March 17, 2010
Well, it's what ended his run in Denver
Kevin Ewoldt - March 17, 2010
It is?
Shanny’s run ended in Denver because he wasn’t a good GM in terms of putting a whole roster together.
But in this particular case, I trust him not to sign loud players that might disrupt things.
smutsboy1 - March 17, 2010
it was widely reported that he lost his locker room leaders to injury and the cancers took over from within.
les boulez bomber - March 17, 2010
So that's why he was fired?
I disagree. I think it was his sub-par performance as GM, especially with regards to the defense.
smutsboy1 - March 17, 2010
That's not what Karl Mecklenberg told me...
That part is true, but when 3 of his captains went down and Cutler’s ego was in full force, he lost the locker room.

.....
I feel like we are intentionally signing mediocre players. I understand we are shying away from a “Buy the big ones!” attitude, but LJ and Grossman?
If we wanted a 30 year old back-up who hasn’t done much lately, why not keep Betts who looked good last year in his limited play time instead of getting LJ?
Maybe Grossman is the best guy out there…. Are these guys really going to make us better in the future though?? Isn’t that what rebuilding is about?
RobtheRedskin - March 17, 2010

You forgot Superbowl caliber 1st rnd QB
RPMontana - March 17, 2010
I would equate Rex Grossman to Trent Dilfer, except he lost. he’s a decent QB, but I think Campbell’s better.
snowburnt - March 18, 2010
He has flashes
I would never have him start a season, but I trust him to handle the plays that Jason is being resuscitated on the sideline, or having a lung reinflated.
RPMontana - March 18, 2010
much like the situation in chicago when they made the SB, sharing time with Kyle Orton

I'm officially starting
The We Need Vasher fan club. I’ve always liked this guy. Stand-up character player with some tread left (only 28). Could come in and be our nickel guy.
RPMontana - March 17, 2010
Joey Porter
Sure I’ll sign him as a LB’s coach or as a hotdog vendor, but his days of playing in the NFL are over!! Pass on Joey Porter!
Kurtstack - March 17, 2010
this is fuckin ridiculous
are we trying to sign every cancer that hits the market?
Area 51 Forever - March 17, 2010
i am not too worried about it. none of the people they have signed to date are expected to be more than backups that provide depth. i am sure they will be thrilled if LJ competes or even beats out portis. put it this way, if these signings, incl hicks, are expected to start, then we are in for another long season!
les boulez bomber - March 17, 2010
But a good draft pick.
again.
RPMontana - March 18, 2010
I fully expect Hicks to be a major part of our offensive line this year and starting. He’s better than anything we have right now.
travisjh86 - March 18, 2010
Better at 3 positions
RPMontana - March 18, 2010
Ganther
signed by Seattle. Also 4 of the cuts have been signed.
Jefferson1935 - March 18, 2010
That would be nice info to have on the stat sheet up top, Kev
Not that I want to make you work or anything.
Scott E - March 19, 2010
If you click on Ganther name (red link)
you get his current status with Seattle. It just does not appear in the adjoining column.
Jefferson1935 - March 19, 2010
Am I the only one that wanted to keep him?
Rekka - March 19, 2010
I thought he showed next to nothing last year.
Especially a couple really nice screen passes or two that he just didn’t turn into TDs, or close to it.
smutsboy1 - March 19, 2010
maybe it's the fact
that I saw him break a couple of tackles. I wasn’t used to seeing that from a B&G RB in a long while.

Barry Sims
San Francisco 49ers veteran free agent offensive tackle Barry Sims completed his visit with the Washington Redskins and is headed back to the Bay Area, according to a league source.
Per our source, the visit went very well and contract discussions were held.
Sims, 35, is going to weigh his options this weekend and talk it over with his wife.
A decision is expected within the next few days.
