It was predictable the quarterback choices limited to turnover machine Rex Grossman or never-was John Beck in a division whose other starters are Eli Manning, Tony Romo and Michael Vick, but poor play at the game's most critical position was a major reason why Washington finished in the NFC East basement for a record fourth straight year in 2011.

History say Flynn's performance not a fluke - Rich Tandler's Real Redskins
By Rich Tandler There is a lot of debate over the significance Matt Flynn’s performance in the Packers’ regular season finale when he passed for 480 yards and six touchdown in Green Bay’s 45-41 win over the Lions. Some say it is a sign that he can be a top quarterback in the league. Others are saying that such a performance could be a fluke. You never know for sure, of course, but there is reason to believe that such...

An interesting choice. I wouldn't worry about the Falcons' poor offensive performance in Mularkey's final game as coordinator. It's better to look at the larger picture of his entire coaching career

I know we need a WR
but count me as a “No” in the Vincent Jackson sweepstakes….a 28 year old WR more worried about his contract than his game would not be my first choice…and while I don’t know the man personally, a lot of what I read indicates he has a poor attitude
I haven’t seen enough of Carl Nicks, but at 340 plus pounds do you guys think he fits the zone scheme?
atark001 - January 11, 2012
ding ding ding, you win!
It’s torture for me to go through a third year in a row of VJax discussion. Captain DUI can go elsewhere.
Parks Smith - January 11, 2012
haha yea and didn't he get pulled over for driving with an expired license right before a playoff game too
just does not sound like somebody a team could rely on, nor the type of player shanahan has been talking about bringing in
atark001 - January 11, 2012
How do you get pulled over for driving with an expired license?
SCSkin21 - January 11, 2012
sorry I worded it wrong
he got pulled over then got cited for diving with a suspended license and expired tag

SCSkin21 - January 11, 2012
Interesting piece on Flynn.
That performance is hard to ignore. He will start somewhere in 2012 and be compensated quite well for it.
iH8dallas - January 11, 2012
Playing the GM game again
what would you pay him, and for how long? I wouldn’t give him much guaranteed money I think, and maybe a 2-3 year contract…let him earn a next one
atark001 - January 11, 2012
That would be preferable, but let's say you're his agent.
There will be a team that offers him a 5-6 year contract and a solid amount of guaranteed money.
He would have to get something equivalent to a top ten draft pick.
I’d give him a five-year (18 million guaranteed) contract. But remember Bruce is sneaky with the contracts, like McNabb’s.
iH8dallas - January 11, 2012
haha you are right about Allen's negotiating abilities
there always seems to be a plausible out in the contracts we give out…like when we signed jamal brown, that contract worried me a bit (cuz of his age and health), but then I read recently that it wouldn’t really hurt us that bad to cut him if need be
I read over at profootball talk today that “unnamed players and members of the organization” were clamoring to sign peyton manning should he be released, which could mean sanchez might be on the market as well…now I by no means want sanchez in the burgundy and gold, but my thinking was he’s another starter-caliber QB that’ll be on the market, which could mean less teams will be vying to trade up in the draft…i can’t wait for this new league year to begin, so much is about to unfold
atark001 - January 11, 2012
The Sanchize is not starting caliber. Neither is Sexy Rexy.
The Sanchize is Sexy Rexy minus the torn ACL/MCLs and the broken ankles.
horatius - January 11, 2012
while I agree
I think his youth and relative physical talent will make some team see him as an answer to their respective QB situation
atark001 - January 11, 2012
And I pray that "some" team is not the Redskins.
horatius - January 12, 2012
That article is plain stupid
pick an arbitrary numbers and then assign a statistical analysis to it…
Billy Volek threw for 492 and 4 tds.
Kelly Holcomb threw for 5 tds and 418 yds.
Of course that means….oh wait…he made sure he cherry picked arbitrary numbers that allowed him to assign correlation where there is none….
Statistics are fun…let’s just grab some and figure out which one make the point I want to make…
Horrific statistical analysis…as a matter of fact…I am ashamed that it was even linked here…
And that has nothing to do with what i think Flynn’s potential is….it is just the epitome of piss poor use of statistics…
DavidDunn - January 11, 2012
This is messed up
And just a yet another example of how our franchise just doesn’t get it (it makes it really hard to retain players with attitudes like this)…

Interceptions have been very consistently in the mid teens for a long time. The team also tends to force a consistent number of fumbles a round 20 every year, we just are terrible at recovering them. I would be interested to hear from a coaching standpoint what the problem is there
Skins Fan '77 - January 11, 2012
Did anybody notice Balmer in his limited time?
Can we hope/expect that he will have the ability to enhance our D-line rotation next year?
hokie skin - January 11, 2012
Considering he made NO tackles, he was kind of hard to notice

I guess tackles/running play/screen is a good statistic.

That is impressive that he battled through that sort of injury and was still able to kick.
