What will the Redskins do with Jammal Brown? - Real Redskins

Redskins positional review: tight ends | John Keim
Better or worse than 2010: This one is tricky because tight end was all over the place. Fred Davis was better and explosive. But Chris Cooley was never healthy and therefore not the same threat. They combined for 98 catches and six touchdowns in 2010; 67 catches and three scores in 2011.

Alex Smith and Jason Campbell, Peyton Manning and the Redskins | Mr. Irrelevant
Two years ago the Redskins and 49ers were healing from varying degrees of disappointment. The Redskins had won four games under the recently-fired Jim Zorn and with 2005 first-round pick Jason Campbell. The 49ers had won eight games under Mike Singletary and with fellow ‘05 first-rounder Alex Smith. Both franchises, bastions of greatness in the 20th century, continued to struggle in the 21st. Then they diverged.

League needs to take replay review out of referee’s hands | ProFootballTalk
I've complained in the past about the current procedure for conducting replay reviews. The time-consuming (but necessary) process becomes only more cumbersome when it's done on the field, with the referee walking to the sidelines, donning the Dukakis headset, talking to the replay assistant, event...

An NFL franchise overseas is a horrible idea.
I guess they just aren’t making enough money here in the US
ptowny - January 16, 2012
That London game
(sorry UKSkin) is one of the worst thought out ideas the NFL has had. First of all, It totally disrupts a team mid season. But, more important, it takes a home game away from a team every year. Not only does that have competitive ramifications, but it robs the fans of one of the 8 games they get to see. Goodell is such an a$$hole, he has no regard whatsoever for NFL fans.
CJHutch - January 16, 2012
I agree with you about Goodell and I don't like the London game.
But at the same time complaining about fans being “robbed” of a home game, I don’t agree with. Look at the home teams for the series Dolphins, Bucs (x2), Saints, 49ers. I think with the team selection, lately, they are finding teams that are floundering in home attendance.
Parks Smith - January 16, 2012
That's a good point
Though it would make more sense to just have Jacksonville play there every year. But, still, that’s Goodell worrying most about the bottom line. I understand, in the end, that’s his job. But I still have a problem with him taking the US fanbase for granted. The biggest joke is that they hold “local” cities for ransom for having dilapidated stadiums, then fly two teams overseas to play on a minefield.
CJHutch - January 16, 2012
The 1 game a year is fair enough as it's all about the $ in the end
but a London franchise could never work. Of all the current fans I know not one of them would switch to supporting a new team.
It would only take a year for attendances to start struggling.

I'm just saying postseason is where it matters
Gaudy stats only go so far. He’s also surpassed his brother in single season yardage total.

I'd like to remind everyone...
Ken continually predicted Packers would go undefeated and win the Super Bowl. I’m looking forward to the 6-pack today where he tries to get out of this. We’re all in agreement Giants are winning the Super Bowl, right?
Kevin Ewoldt - January 16, 2012
I can definitely see
That playing out. They’re the most balanced team left, and Eli keeps getting better (ugh). There’s a good chance they could get revenge on the Ravens.
CJHutch - January 16, 2012
I want to see SF beat the tar out of NY.
iH8dallas - January 16, 2012
Me too
But I’m not particularly confident. The AFC game has me torn. I may have to too gfor Baltimore. I just can’t stomach Belicheck or Brady.
CJHutch - January 16, 2012
I actually hate the Giants more than Dallas.
I’m losing my mind watching them in the playoffs.
I’m just jealous though, they’re successful. They have had the same coach and same QB for a long time now, that will win you some games.
If only we could get a good QB here and something more than a rent-a-coach.
iH8dallas - January 16, 2012
Maybe you should change your name then.
Parks Smith - January 16, 2012
iH8newyork isn't as catchy.
iH8dallas - January 16, 2012
That doesn't compute
I can’t hate anyone more than Dallas. Whenever my wife becomes my ex-wife, I will not hate her more than Dallas.
You must be a young’n.
CJHutch - January 16, 2012
Not really. the Giants-Redskins rivalry is much older than the Cowboys rivalry.
iH8dallas - January 16, 2012
Sure, but
Not as heated. Im sure Sam Huff agrees with you, when he’s lucid.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not judging. A bunch of my cousins feel the same way, but they’re all in their twenties.
Truthfully, we don’t really have a rivalry with anyone right now. The closest thing to it is between the owner and fans.
CJHutch - January 16, 2012

as long as the G-Men continue to play teams that...
hurt themselves trip over themselves, give the ball to the Midgets and give the game over to the Midgets, the Midgets can win it all.

I think this Super Bowl will be a rematch between Giants and Patriots
The Patriots will defeat them this time as the Giants will be favored.

I love seeing the Giants getting hosed, however....
that Greg Jennings fumble call was beyond belief. How is that ref employed?
iH8dallas - January 16, 2012
That ref crew will not be seeing another playoff game for awhile.

Every one knew the Seahawks would have won that game if not for the fix.

The Depth Chart Article
Claims we are likely to cut Cooley. Does that sound ridiculous to anyone else? Or am I just too set on this guy being a Skin for life?
CNUwizkid - January 16, 2012
How did you get that we are "likely" to cut Cooley out of "there's a chance he's cut"?
Parks Smith - January 16, 2012
Cooley said himself he will not be getting cut
His knee already feels good and his contract is cheap since it was front-loaded (like all our contracts pre Bruce Allen)
Kevin Ewoldt - January 16, 2012
If we need to cut $3 mil from the salary cap then something very, very bad has happened haha.
Parks Smith - January 16, 2012
I completely misread that. I guess I dislike the words Cooley and cut actually working to make a sentence.
CNUwizkid - January 16, 2012
Haha
He’s been saying that for two years. But I don’t see him getting cut regardless of what happens with Davis. That knucklehead is such a wild card right now, they’ll keep CC for insurance at least.
CJHutch - January 16, 2012
I don't think he's going to get cut
but he has to restructure his deal. His salary Cap hit is $6.2 million next year, and that is pricey for even a non elite starting TE, much less a probably number 2 TE coming off an injury filled year.
Steve Shoup - January 16, 2012
but he's a leader!
Parks Smith - January 16, 2012
actually i do think he is somewhat of a leader
he might not be a leader in the Fletcher/Manning/Polumalu sense. But I think Cooley is a good secondary leader on this team. Be it with hanging out with players and bringing them together, or helping organize the offseason workouts this past season with Fletcher (and being there, unlike some other prominent Redskins).
Now I don’t think that alone keeps him in B&G, but it helps and if he’s willing to trim some money off his cap number, it is better to have him around at a lower rate, than cut him and still have him count for $4 million against the cap.

http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/jay-cutler-1.html
But here are Jay Cutler’s college stats. They’re not particularly impressive, but he didn’t have a good team around him, kind of like Foles in Arizona.
iH8dallas - January 16, 2012
So are you saying you wanna draft Cutler,
Or take Foles in the first?
CJHutch - January 16, 2012
What I'm saying is that Shanny might look at a lot more than a 70% completion rate, 1,000 TDs and a billion yards.
I might consider taking Foles in the first.
iH8dallas - January 16, 2012
Admittedly
I don’t know much about Foles, except that he looks a little too much like Napolean Dynamite.
Personally, I’d take the guy with the 1000 TD’s and a billion yards.
CJHutch - January 16, 2012
Foles is the guy I've been saying since last year.
And I mean that as in “draft time last April” as the guy who it looked like Shanny should target if he couldn’t pull off getting one of the top players, and even if he could if he could trade down and get enough value. Foles is the right type of QB for Shanny’s offense, high percentage type of QB who has played well in less than ideal circumstances… this was Foles best supporting offensive cast this year of his college career, and he was putting up those numbers BEFORE this year.
BillWard - January 16, 2012
hmmm
Lets pillage as many of these types as we can. I think we need to lavish the line with attention this offseason.

Resting Kerrigan
I think Kerrigan is a stud, but I agree that some rest could do well for him…also Jackson seems to do really well in his limited playing time.
hokie skin - January 16, 2012
This is the daily slop
So I will take my swing here
So how many elite quarterbacks won this weekend?
In every one of those games, the more complete team won regardless of who was quarterback (Denver/New England a likely exception)
It was argued on a thread here all week that elite quarterback trumps better team ad nausea… that didn’t seem to be proven at all.
If there is a good quarterback at number six then by all means, we take him; but for the love of God, please do not advocate trading up for any one player when there are so many positions that need starter quality players on this team.
Skins Fan '77 - January 16, 2012
I was happy to see some of the more balanced teams win out
It must have pissed goodell off to no end to see teams like the 49rs and Giants win. Look for more pass happy rules to come into play next year.
It is still a team sport though, regardless of how much they keep trying to turn it into a pure offensive sport.
Trading up, probably wont happen unless Bruce negotiates an awesome deal. Maybe he swaps firsts and give the other teams gm a box of cubans.
