Barry Svrluga, a columnist for the Washington Post, is in San Francisco this week covering the NFC Championship and had a chance to talk to Carlos Rogers. Yep, you know where this is going:
"It's so crazy when you're in an organization, where other coaches and other players see how good you are, see the potential, and your own organization that you've been with for six years don't do the right stuff to get that out of a player," Rogers said. "I've had so many coaches saying: ‘You've had an incredible year. I know you're glad to be out of Washington because there's so much stuff going on.' It was amazing, just the respect factor."
OK, so that's old news. We got that.
"I wanted this in Washington," Rogers said. "I didn't want to be bouncing around from team to team. It didn't work out in Washington. I got another chance, and it's working out."
I do believe that. But this is where the bus goes veering off the road and into a ditch:
"People say I wasn't happy. It's just because I spoke out. But it was the truth. It was the truth. And I'm gone. So what is it now? It's still stuff going on. I know the guys on the team, so many guys is ready to leave. So many guys."
That last comment is a total mind f*ck. All off-season we listen to players and their reasoning why this team's squad will turn it around. "Shanahan brings Super Bowl legacy."..."It's our second year in the system, guys don't have to think as much." On and on. So, who's ready to leave I can't help but turn my attention to. They are surely the players that are suffering through this losing era and not getting paid, right? Rocky McIntosh and DHall come to mind. I could name others, but what good would it do? Carlos is right. No one wants to be part of a team that has had one winning record since 2006.

What a Freakin Big Mouth
Just Shut Up!
jmpalomo - January 20, 2012
To Carlos Rodgers the Consomate Professional
It is so easy to point the finger at your former team that is rebuilding for the future and will be a true dynasty very soon, but at the same time for you to take cheap shots at them tells us all just what type of person or professional you really are. After all it was you who made up his mind three years ago to collect a big check and do as little as possible to earn it. You are indeed a sooorrry excuse of a player who will not amount to much and never reach the potential you should have. Very cowardly or professional of you Carlos!
Redskin-Ron - January 20, 2012
Did he attend a college? I need to use this as evidence that when you sound like an uneducted preson anything you say is taken with a grain of salt and the ever craved “respect” will never be given to a mumble mouthed moron.

Auburn to be specific. Majored in coloring.
Makarov42 - January 20, 2012

StephanHart - January 21, 2012
If you read into Steinberg's column
Manning will be here soon so that should keep people happy
//shooooooooooooooootttttttttttttttttt mmmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeee
Hustler of Culture - January 20, 2012
I did read it and I still don't see Manning coming here.
If anything it would be Bradford or RG3.
iH8dallas - January 20, 2012
both would be awesome. Let’s hope.
brazilianbeast - January 20, 2012
You want both?
That would be expensive. Who starts?
CJHutch - January 20, 2012
I believe Shanahan implements the strategy he used during the preseason for the entire year
One player plays the first quarter, the other plays the next and it continuously repeats.
Makes sense, no?
mbedner - January 20, 2012
I'm down.
CJHutch - January 20, 2012
Bradford?? Hahaha…wouldn’t that be interesting….a native-american QB playing for the Redskins :)
OvechkinGR8 - January 20, 2012
Dude, our first head coach was Native-American
And while I, for one, would love to have Bradford, isn’t there still the rumor that he doesn’t want to play for the Redskins?
BillWard - January 20, 2012 via mobile
Players don’t want to play here?! What has this team come to? The Redskins used to be a premier team and now rookies and dipshits like Rogers are piling on.
I hope the Redskins come back strong next year and make them all eat crow.
caps&skins - January 20, 2012
I've never once heard a rumor that Bradford doesn't want to play for the Redskins
When asked two years ago, he had no problem and spoke quite highly of Mike Shanahan, actually.
mbedner - January 20, 2012
Listening to Jeff Fischer on the radio today....
Bradford isn’t going anywhere
Bryan Black - January 20, 2012 via Android app
Rams trade back with CLE, get Blackmon, and an additional 1st next year (or 2nd this year).
Kevin Ewoldt - January 20, 2012
What if Minnesota gets Blackmon?
it still is a possibility.
JeanBaptiste - January 20, 2012
Then the Rams would get Kalil, and be set at LT for years
StephanHart - January 20, 2012
Because coaches never lie.
iH8dallas - January 20, 2012
Right
I never put much weight into that trade. I’ll have to start preparing for it now.
CJHutch - January 20, 2012
Interesting - them going with RG3 over Bradford seemed reasonable
But if Fisher wants Bradford, end of story.
I just read how the Colts are firing almost everybody. Could preclude Peyton going back there – all his comrades gone. I hope we don’t chase him, but his presence could indirectly help us by going to some competitor for a top QB.
Donnio1234 - January 20, 2012
F*** you Carlos
You the dumbass who tried to play DB blind as a bat…what a douche!
Bryan Black - January 20, 2012 via Android app
No more has-beens from other teams as they plan for the future and ‘Skins plan on being their stepping stones.
Let me add Fuck Carlos and his greased hands that couldn’t make a damn int to save..well, to save the team he was on.
caps&skins - January 20, 2012
For the record
I really, really, really don’t want Manning (because I believe there is no way Indy lets him go if he is healthy).
I am fine with RG3 or even Bradford.
Hustler of Culture - January 20, 2012
my guesses:
Mcintosh and Landry
brazilianbeast - January 20, 2012
Maybe dhall too
Hustler of Culture - January 20, 2012
I don’t think Hall has many reasons to be upset. He is considered one of the leaders of this team by the coaching staff. He makes us pay for costly mistakes every single game and doesn’t get a lot of heat for that…Beyond that, he knows he is garbage and doesn’t deserve his fat contract. If he is really unhappy, I say GTFO.
brazilianbeast - January 20, 2012
Who the hell iz Carlos be talkin 'bout. Letz look over the list of dem guys dat be ready to leave dis joint.
McIntosh and Landry have to be the only morons he’s talking about. I say good riddance.
Parks Smith - January 20, 2012
The Redskins is dumb.
They don’t know nothin about cornerbacks.
iH8dallas - January 20, 2012
Yea, Landry voiced how pissed he was with the medical staff rushing back and getting him re-hurt. I’ve written him off.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 20, 2012
and he didn’t look very happy when the media asked him if he wanted to stay in WSH.
Do the Eagles or Cowboys have enough cap space for Landry? Maybe Jerruh will try to sign him.
brazilianbeast - January 20, 2012
Why woul Jerrah sign a guy who can't walk?
It taks a year to rehab from achilles surgery. So far LaRon has refused TWICE to have that surgery and is trying to see if it will heal on it’s own. Next year will be a rerun of the last two seasons where he plays five, six or seven games and gets shut down for the rest of the season. Landry’s big thing is the highlight reel hit and showing off his muscles. If he’s quit the posturing and play within the system he could be a superstar but that’s not what he wants. Too bad. If he’s one of the ones wanting out let him walk. Same with anyone else. Why does anyone want a player here who doesn’t want to be here?
DudleyDoright - January 21, 2012
Oh yea, and wagging his finger at a player he tackled after said player gained 11 on a 3rd and 6 - He's great at that
StephanHart - January 21, 2012
You fergot
lil’ John Beck
CJHutch - January 20, 2012
We could make fun of Carlos Rogers grammar...
or we could consider that he possibly is a canary in the coal mine…not that there is anything we could do about it either way…
here are a few other names….and I suspect you wouldn’t mind them leaving either, but I suspect Davis and Williams could be on the list…as could Perry Riley
DavidDunn - January 20, 2012
Why would Perry Riley
Want to leave? He’s starting here. Davis, I can see. Good luck though. He screwed his market value up himself. Williams? Again, why? Is it because Shanny makes him work?
CJHutch - January 20, 2012
Rogers was starting...
so that doesn’t seem to be the key to determining if one wants to stay or leave…
Regarding why would they want to leave…I think the point Rogers was making, that appears to be disregarded, is that players don’t feel as though the can reach their full potential here. I think as professional athletes, they may be aspiring to more than a starting position (and from a financial standpoint, they also likely have bonuses related to performance that they may not have to chance to fulfill).
To each their own, but I suspect the continued high profile success of starters who leave and become more successful starts to build a perception that is tough to break out of and results in having to overpay to attract talent.
DavidDunn - January 20, 2012
I think we're starting to break that stigma.
Adam Carriker, Stephen Bowen, Jabar Gaffney and Barry Cofield all came here and had the best year of their careers.
iH8dallas - January 20, 2012
baby steps...
lets hope so…
DavidDunn - January 20, 2012
many of the rookies are looking good too.
caps&skins - January 20, 2012
Carlos was probably talking of one or two guys
And we played them fairly early, so he probably doesn’t have much recent stuff. I think his commons are almost meaningless. Carlos is a nice guy, but not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Donnio1234 - January 20, 2012
I meant "comments", not commons
Donnio1234 - January 20, 2012
so many guys usually doesn't translate to 2...
but who knows…
DavidDunn - January 20, 2012
Love Carlos's accent. (ha ha) How did he get through High School..
…much less College with his great verbal skillz ?!?!
Chilliewil - January 20, 2012
He is from Augusta and went to Auburn
he’s pretty well spoken, considering
CarverM - January 20, 2012
Exactly, he's from the Dirty Dirty
StephanHart - January 21, 2012
Leave our name outta your mouth Carlos
Move on with your life dude, you were an unprofessional blow hard when you were here. Glad to see nothing has changed. Go ahead and take McIntosh, Landry, Blades, and the rest of the self important rejects with you. Can’t wait until the Giants bust out some double moves on his ass Sunday.
tony420 - January 20, 2012
+1 on the double moves.
Chilliewil - January 20, 2012
It's all blabber to the media, nothing to take to heart
StephanHart - January 20, 2012

Was that his responsiblity
or the teams? I think the team provides all medical/dental/vision care while they are under contract (protecting their investment).
BAFGA - January 20, 2012
Hmm....we could blame Carlos Rogers
Or, a professional football team could include a 2 min eye exam in the training camp opening physical…
I know what I would do if I were spending millions of dollars understanding human nature and the ego of some professional football players, but that is just me…
DavidDunn - January 20, 2012
I've thought that for a long time - that he needed glasses or contacts
one of his missed interceptions was so obvious – his hands totally missed the ball. Why didn’t the Skins get his eyes checked? Why didn’t he?
Donnio1234 - January 20, 2012
It might be easy to get the eye exam, but isn’t he an adult? He would know more than anyone else if he can see. Or speak. Or..oh, nevermind.
caps&skins - January 20, 2012
I don't care about team eye exams
If your job, and your paid millions, is to shut down receivers and get interceptions then its your responsibility to get your own eyes checked. What a freaking tool.
Bryan Black - January 20, 2012 via Android app
absolutely
irishgoon - January 20, 2012
I don't care if you are paid millions to be the team surgeon
it is your responsibility to get your own eyes examined….
or…
Let’s eliminate the training staff and have all players self diagnose. Such babies? Jeez…
And people wonder why the Redskins are such a bad organization…I suspect many within actually believe this type of short-sighted thinking.
DavidDunn - January 21, 2012
What an idiots
I’m sure some guys is ready to leave. But those guys is are ones we not care if leave.
Al_CaPWNED - January 20, 2012
Carlos started to become disgruntled when he did not get the recognition that Hall was getting from the
media and coaches. The contract situation came later.
From the perspective of roster turnover, Carlos is out of touch with the Skin’s roster since Shanahan became coach.
O’Halloran’s article which incidentally cover the change in the Skin’s – http://www.csnwashington.com/01/20/12/Comparing-roster-churn-on-Redskins-and-N/landing.html?blockID=634814&feedID=6355 –
“REDSKINS
Turnover: 38 of 53.
Starters: 13 (plus P Sav Rocca).
Analysis: Of the teams, the Redskins had the most starters not counted among this group because they were on injured reserve or suspended.” Carlos started expressing his sour grapes about in 2009.
Jefferson1935 - January 20, 2012
Want's OUT
Get him outta HERE……..
juanpan - January 20, 2012
Carlos is mad
Because he didn’t get the hype that guys like Springs and Hall got. But who’s fault is that? Springs was the better corner, and Hall actually caught balls thrown to him. Carlos controlled his own destiny. The coaching staff didn’t have some anti-Carlos campaign going, like he would like us to think.
CJHutch - January 20, 2012
Another day
Another interview with Carlos where he doesn’t admit he couldn’t fucking see while in Washington, and has since got his eyes examined.
I hope Eli lights his ass up this weekend.
willster - January 20, 2012
He's just telling the thruth
We let so many of our first round draft picks walk out the door, and its just ridiculous. We chose to pay free agents instead of our own players.
We need to retain our talent first and foremost. Then use free agents to build on the solid foundation. But when you have a high turnover of players how can you ever expect consistency.
JeanBaptiste - January 20, 2012
Please explain this:
StephanHart - January 20, 2012
My bad I need to rephrase that
I forgot that we don’t really have a history of keeping our first round picks to begin with. (Vinny Cerato didn’t seem to like draft picks)
its better to say that we let too many of our most talented players leave via free agency
Jason Campbell
Carlos Rogers
Ryan Clark
Antonio Pierce
even Chad Rienhart played pretty well this season.
This season it looks like were not going to resign La’ron Landry and possibly Fred Davis.
JeanBaptiste - January 20, 2012
None of these players listed have been "our most talented players"
And Chad Rienhart was a 4th rounder….
StephanHart - January 20, 2012
3rd rounder
I didn’t feel like we gave him a fair shot, could of at least been quality depth but with all the coaching turnovers we’ve had I’m not surprised at all he isn’t on this roster anymore
travisjh86 - January 20, 2012
Jason Campbell looks like Tom Brady when you compare him to Rex Grossman
& He was our best QB. , Antonio Pierce was a Pro Bowl Linebacker. Ryan Clark is a solid DB who can play both Safety position at a high level.
That seems like a pretty talented group.
note: just because someone is a 3rd rounder doesn’t mean they cant play well.
JeanBaptiste - January 20, 2012
They were all solid players
Hopefully Shanny will not make the mistakes of the past
Redskin44 - January 20, 2012
NT Howard Green, too
Donnio1234 - January 20, 2012
we didn't draft him?
and we aren’t missing him at all?
So I’m hoping my sarcasm reader is off today
travisjh86 - January 20, 2012
What 1st round picks
Are you talking about? Lavar is the only one I can think of. Unless you count Ramsey and Campbell. To which I reply, so what?
CJHutch - January 20, 2012
look at my reply to stephanhart
JeanBaptiste - January 20, 2012
Yeah
Its been well documented that the Snyderrato regime didn’t value its own “homegrown” talent. But you said first rounders. That’s where you threw me.
CJHutch - January 20, 2012
Now that
I reread your statement, I think maybe I misinterpreted it. I guess you meant the actual first round PICKS. Which, again, was a known fact with Snyderrato
CJHutch - January 20, 2012
Champ Bailey-why does everyone forget him?
Skins Fan '77 - January 20, 2012
The redskins did not handle the Rogers situation very well
I think we will end up clearing out most of the malcontents this offseason
Redskin44 - January 20, 2012
I don't really sympathize
it’s frustrating that he is playing better for San Fran but I don’t know what we were supposed to do with him. He perpetually underperformed and still acted entitled.
SkinsOsTerps - January 20, 2012
I Disagree
How could they have handled Carlos any better?
He didn’t want to come back, and voiced that opinion during his contract year. I guess they COULD have traded him, but when you have a disgruntled player who is voicing that he would like to leave, it sorta hurts your trade market.
StephanHart - January 20, 2012
He did not want to come back
Because how his contract was handled in 2009 and 2010, so yes by the time he left year the damage was done. He was also undervalued by the franchise (and the fans). Too many folks focused on his dropped INTS (which was a problem) and not his very good cover skills. I often wonder if his vision problems were discovered by him or by the SF coaches and trainers.
Redskin44 - January 21, 2012
this isnt the first time a CB left the redskins and made the Pro Bowl with the 49ers
anyone remember Walt Harris.
This is starting to look like a trend.
JeanBaptiste - January 20, 2012
2 a trend doesn’t make
caps&skins - January 20, 2012
It's pretty simple: The Redskins as a company, is not a good place to work.
It starts at the top and goes down, like any company.
iH8dallas - January 20, 2012
amazing how we lament the total dysfunction and ineptness of Cerrato era
but then turn on players who are actually just confirming from the inside what we all observed from the outside.
DCrez - January 20, 2012
good point
Rekka - January 20, 2012
No doubt
The Cerrato era was an albatross, no doubt. But Carlos is lumping the current regime in there as well.
And, again, he was initially upset because he felt he didn’t get the respect he deserved. Well, play better, and you’ll get it. He didn’t get benched because he was dropping balls. He got benched because he wasn’t playing good.
CJHutch - January 20, 2012
+1 very good point
StephanHart - January 20, 2012
Any place that is losing
is not a great place to work, once we start winning people will have other reasons than money to play for us
travisjh86 - January 20, 2012
And it's not just the football side of the house
I met the Redskins marketing director a couple of years ago. He reported to a guy who reported directly to Snyder. He told me that the environment was hell. He had only been with the team for a year when I met him and he did not think that he could last for another year.

Man! F Carlos Rogers
He teased us when he was here… He spent all his money on bad business decisions and at the Stadium Club. He wanted a payday, he didn’t get it but maybe he does this year. More power to him. Now what he should worry about is how he is going to guard Nicks and Cruz because he damn sure didn’t d’up Colston or on the last Saints possession Graham, that outran him to the end zone.
xxrdotxx - January 20, 2012
Yeahhh, so much respect that you got 1 year and $2m on the FA market.
Mr. E - January 20, 2012
Listen to the man!
Fans need to put down the rose colored glasses
1. This is a data point. From an external party.
2. There were a HECK of a lot of interviewers asking players quesitons in VERY leading manner during exit interviews (don’t you feel things are turning around, don’t you feel better than 5-11, etc. etc.) And sure, players followed along. But I did not hear fire in the belly. And they were leading questions.
3. We WERE 5-11. And like Shanny said, you are your record.
4. There seems like a tendancy for fans to not believe the bad until a year or two afterwards. Like with Jason Campbell, Malcom Kelly, etc. etc. Yeah…in hindsight “we knew”. But I sure heard the opposite at the time.
TCO - January 21, 2012
5. And I remember someone asking Cooley the leading “aren’t you better than 5-11” and he had some pretty honest answer, like “I don’t know”. Can’t recall the exact words…but it was the gist of that. Very real response…
TCO - January 21, 2012
This man graduated college!?
…oh never mind he went to Auburn
BobZupcic - January 21, 2012
Ur in the 6 an 2 Zorn run, Dont worry Rex Ryan had a great first year or two as well!!!
will the niners pay, just cuz u caught everything this year, and were so hamstrung from those brick gloves that our top ten defensive coaches forced u to wear when u were here, that doesnt mean the niners r gonna give u anything. It helps when u play with all pro’s like justin smith and P. willis, Its not are fault that u could have ended several games here in d.c. if only u caught a spiral fired right into ur both ur mittens. Ur a chump dude, u rip us cuz u couldn’t manage ur own crap, well good luck with ur future either way and I hope ur money management skills improve, cuz u don’t get to blame us for u sleeping on ur agents couch. we do need to improve that secondary and the redskins were right to let him walk, he wasn’t this player ever for us.
