Larry Michael just reported on ESPN 980:
Ike Hilliard is the new #Redskins WR coach & Bob Slowik takes over LBs for Lou Spanos.
Hilliard's Career:
- Ike Hilliard played for the Giants from 1997-2004 and was with Tampa from 2004-2008. Obviously there's a Bruce Allen connection there in Tampa.
- Ike was a WR Coach for the Florida Tuskers (UFL) from 2009-2010 (Jim Haslett was Head Coach then)
- Hilliard was the Asst. WRs Coach for the Dolphins this past season.
If he is good enough for the UFL
He is good enough for the skins. We have made minor leaguers look good before.

Can't quite figure out the Slowik move.
Sure he was a DC in the past, but if he was underwhelming with the DB’s how is he going to be better with the LB’s? Seems like a case of just keeping a friend employed. He coached Denver’s DB and it can’t be that hard to coach Champ. I guess no one can mess up coaching Fletcher, Orakpo, Kerrigan, and Riley since Fletcher is probably the player coach any way.
Copious 1 - January 23, 2012
I remember hearing Champ swear by Slowik
but I agree, does seem strange…you’re right on with Fletcher though, with him there those LB meetings shouldn’t miss a beat…looks like there’s no more separation between Safeties and CBs now, as it appears Raheem is taking over coaching responsibilities for the entire defensive backfield…I wonder if this will help with on-field communication between the CBs and safeties (that always seemed to be a problem we’ve had the past couple years), having them all coached by one guy and all being in one meeting room should be good for chemistry
atark001 - January 23, 2012
I just hope
He teaches them how to tackle
CJHutch - January 23, 2012
dear D. Hall
here are your arms, here is how you use them
HankMonahan - January 24, 2012
I would love for fletcher to stay as a coach for the LBs when he retires
and I’d love for Chris Samuels to come beat the crap out of Silverback….he deservers to lose that knick-name a silverback.
A silver back is defined as (from dictionary.com)
he’s not mature and the only social group he’s a leader of is his Legalize medicinal group
jbh1190 - January 24, 2012
I was hoping for
Michael Westbrook. We need some fight on our team.
I’m not happy about Slowik. I was hoping to get another 3-4 guy I nhere to replace the one we lost. The Ravens/Steelers/Texans didn’t have anyone we could pilfer?
CJHutch - January 23, 2012
I like what you did there CJ.....
it works on multiple levels!!!

i was hoping for todd haley
But he might be too strong willed to be under shanahan good move I guess but
I don’t agree with moving the db coach down to lb’s we should have grabed a 3-4 guy from b more maybe

Todd Haley is an offensive coach
He surely isn’t gonna coach LB’s and not sure why he would coach WR’s when he surely will be picked up as an O coordinator somewhere
Bryan Black - January 23, 2012 via Android app
because he worked with
Fitz, boldin , and d bowe. I thought maybe he would take a demotion to wr coach for us like raheem did
taylor21 - January 23, 2012 via mobile
he was a WR coach prior to being an offensive coordinator too
I thought he’d be an interesting name, but you’re probably right about his demeanor meshing with the Shanahans
atark001 - January 23, 2012
I had promoted Henry Ellard...
oh well. It appears we traded an exWR for another.
Raheem is now taking over DB duties, so for consistency sake, a switch of positon coaching is ok for now…
jgibbsfan1 - January 23, 2012
i'm going to write more about it later, but I was impressed with Morris down here
man he coaches with some fire and really seemed to do a nice job with the DB’s
Steve Shoup - January 23, 2012
WHAT THE HELL
are the Florida Tuskers?!
The Flyest Irishman - January 24, 2012
What the hell are the Florida tuskers?!
Why, they are the UFL version of the 2007-2008 patriots.
mbedner - January 24, 2012
Sorry, not true
They are actually a strain of mini-elephants, released into the Florida Everglades to act as food for the Anacondas.
Dipper - January 24, 2012
This is just a move to clear up space for R. Morris
Not quite sure how Slowik is with specifically LBs, but Morris should be a good addition to the staff, so making him happy and giving him some room to operate is a good idea. Shanny, Little Shanny, Haz, and now RahMo…three head coaches and one on the fast track to a HC job on one staff…interesting story line IMO
SkinsaneAsylum - January 24, 2012
Raheem is impressing at the Senior Bowl arleady. Supposedly a very fiery guy. Exactly what our DBs need,
Kevin Ewoldt - January 24, 2012
thanks for the update! good to know
SkinsaneAsylum - January 24, 2012
I think ra mo's a one year rental
dudes gonna get stolen from us next offseason, unless we promote him quick and pay him well.
Al_CaPWNED - January 24, 2012
We had a good LB coach
and they let him get away. Now he’s with the Georgie Bulldogs…His name is Kirk Olivadotti.
tmarine17 - January 24, 2012
We didn't let him get away
He chose to go to college football b/c he didn’t want to go a year without a paycheck (lockout).
Kevin Ewoldt - January 24, 2012
That was some of the reason
but not all of it. I won’t get into specifics, but he wasn’t happy about some changes that were made after 2009.
tmarine17 - January 24, 2012
Spanos > Slowik
as far as LBs go
SkinsaneAsylum - January 24, 2012
Ike! One of my favorite players from the mid-90’s Gators.
Plus, he was responsible for the greatest play, I’ve ever seen in sports:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1fDdlXkOOQ
Yes, that’s the night the Gators won the National Championship. 52-20 over Florida State!!!!!!!!
FlaGators - January 24, 2012
The skins should grab whoever is the Buffalo WR coach
They are all pretty much free agent players done great
