By Rich Tandler If you’re looking at plunking down over a hundred bucks for an authentic Redskins jersey you might want to wait a few months. Thoughts
Any hint as to what the Redskins will be doing come FA or draft should be taken as What they WILL not be doing…
dr WNC - January 25, 2012
well we def need a RT and a top notch wr. Monty did good for us at C the two ?'s are RT and LG
I’m thinking we try to land Bowe (it’ll cost a shit ton) but if we move back to say early teens for an extra 2nd rounder we could land Michael Floyd in the first, and 2 olinmen in the second and Weeden in the 3rd.
jbh1190 - January 25, 2012
Sounds like the Giants scouts are as arrogant as the Giants fans...
“No need to talk to anyone…we’re already the best team in the NFC…God, I hate Giants fans
ptowny - January 25, 2012
My father in law
is a huge Giants fan “because they get no publicity and are always underrated and good hard nose defense team”….what!?
jbh1190 - January 25, 2012
Chatter from the Rams, probably
If I’m the Rams, I start rumors about the Redskins trading up. Get Cleveland to part with that #4 and maybe the late 1st rounder. I still get Blackmun or Kalil. Heck yeah I start a rumor, it makes the trade more likely.
BillWard - January 25, 2012 via mobile
Rams want Blackmon. Free Agent Wideouts are not very good this year.
It may take alot to move them out of #2.
They maybe able to still get Blackmon with a trade to Cleveland.
No chance Blackmon drops to #6 which is a killer for the skins.
jmpalomo - January 25, 2012
the FA WR's are exceptionally strong so I don't know about that
Steve Shoup - January 25, 2012
My guess is Raheem will be the defensive coordinator next season. Skins D will finish top 10 next year and Haz will move on to HC somewhere. If that’s correct, then I will be applauding the Redskins next season for preparing a smooth transition a year in advance.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 25, 2012
But Haz wasn't good last time he was a head coach
A main reason Gregg Williams can’t get a HC job
jbh1190 - January 25, 2012
Players love him and that translates well. He can mention lessons learned in an interview.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 25, 2012
Remember, the mighty Bill Belichick was a terrible head coach his first two attempts
Skins Fan '77 - January 25, 2012
That was before he learned to cheat.
And before he got Tom Brady.
BillWard - January 25, 2012 via mobile
+3
for all his rings
jbh1190 - January 25, 2012
I think many guys don't want to be HC again - too much work and heartbreak -
One of the hardest jobs in the world, totally thankless. Applies even more to those guys with the great TV analyst jobs – like Jimmy Johnson and Tony Dungy. They make good, money and have a ball.
Donnio1234 - January 25, 2012
Same thought crossed my mind as well,
Good planning, and if not next year then maybe in year 5!
dr WNC - January 25, 2012
Agreed. That was the immediate thought I had when Morris was hired.
HTTR4LIFE - January 25, 2012
I don't know
a coach with only one year of experience in the 3-4 might not be the best option, but, that being said, having been a head coach/defensive coordinator before, he could still bring a lot to the table
atark001 - January 25, 2012
Yeah, but
Has Morris ever coached the 3-4?
CJHutch - January 25, 2012
More likely that raheem gets poached
He’s still got a good rep, and some team will want him as coordinator. Haslet, I think is safe at DC as long as he keeps improving our defense. Has and shanny seem to have a bromance.
Al_CaPWNED - January 25, 2012
RT's article about Flynn vs. Griffin sure does make a ton of sense.
Trading up to get Griffin would obviously be cheaper than going after Flynn. We can retain our picks, UFA’s, and veterans without much of a difficult decision or hassle when the time comes.
I mean what are our other options? Our QB will come from this draft. Whether that is Griffin, Tannenhill, or Weeden… our guy will be under center next year. You talk about mortgaging the future… signing Flynn would put us in a bind for sure in a few years. And if our guy emerges after his contract then we pay him what he has earned and lock him up as our franchise QB. Still, down the road we will have a few drafts to build our roster around younger and cheaper guys. This is a crucial year.
xocnodnarb - January 25, 2012
what if he busts
then we lose this years second and third and next years first so a refresh wont be able until the 2014 draft….yay
jbh1190 - January 25, 2012
Every pick in the draft you make can possibly be a bust.
xocnodnarb - January 25, 2012
But every pick doesn't come with the caveat that you have to trade extra picks to select that player
StephanHart - January 25, 2012
extra high value picks at that
jbh1190 - January 25, 2012
didn't read the article but did he weigh the cost of the FA's needed to replace the extra draft picks we'd give away? B/c that cost will be high (or you just settle on second and third rate players).
Steve Shoup - January 25, 2012
QB Priorities: 1. RGIII 2. Peyton Manning 3. Matt Flynn 4. Suck Again at 5-11 (always next year)
jmpalomo - January 25, 2012
no manning
seriously, if this team is dumb enough to fall for peyton manning they are truely lost.
dudes got no neck
Al_CaPWNED - January 25, 2012
Am I the only one who is worried
That Bob Slowik is going to ruin our linebackers?
I’m really not that impressed with his career as a coach, he seems to be a Shanahan favorite (which is a bad thing, if you are a defensive coach–Shanahan don’t know nothing about defense)
Skins Fan '77 - January 25, 2012
I think Haz has to have some kind of say on who is below him too.
jbh1190 - January 25, 2012
I felt the same way when they first hired him.
CJHutch - January 25, 2012
He wouldn't have been an OC or head coach if he didn't know defense.
Thats a ridiculous statement you just made.
xocnodnarb - January 25, 2012
We Need
QB (draft)
WR (preferably draft, but FA if we have to trade up for a QB)
RT (one of the two OL spots will be draft, one FA)
An interior OL (one of the two OL sports will be draft, one FA)
ILB (mid round draft, will be the next Riley hopefully)
CB (mid round draft, get a stud to replace Hall next year)
SS (FA for this)
tman5 - January 25, 2012
therefore no moving up
jbh1190 - January 25, 2012
I rate safety as second need behind QB. We have nobody, unless Atogwe
heals and gets back to form, and/or Landry actually heals (the story about not having the operation suggests he’s never going to be the same again). Doughty and Gomes are strictly second string.
Another mock draft (from Nawrocki) has us taking Claiborne at #6. To me, that makes no sense, and, if that is what we would use the pick for, we would be better to use the muscle to move up for RG3.
Donnio1234 - January 25, 2012
I think Atogwe will be fine
tman5 - January 25, 2012
I dont understand Claiborne either
While we only have 2 good CBs (3 would be nice), and we want to eventually replace Hall (he has one more year)…
Spending a 1st round pick on a position where our 2 starters rate at a B- seems like a waste. Not a waste of the pick, but a waste of the resources invested in our current starters.
We have positions that are so much worse than CB on this team. Spend the CB pick next year when we are ditching Hall.
