Jammal Brown’s future hinges on offseason rehab - The Insider
Only this past season’s $2.75 million base salary was guaranteed, and to carry him on the 2012 roster would mean a $4.6 million salary cap hit. (The Redskins would suffer a cap hit of $4.4 million if they cut Brown before June 1, but if they cut him after that date, the cap hit for 2012 would be only $1.1 million, and $3.3 million of it would be deferred to 2013).

Daniel Snyder’s tough season — with the media - Erik Wemple - The Washington Post
More astonishing than the revelations in the Wise piece was the failure of other Redskins beat reporters to hop on the story. Few outlets, it seemed, wanted to push these revelations into another news cycle, even though the piece contained hints of shadiness concerning the hiring of Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Searches on the Internet and Nexis turned up little in the way of substantive follow-ups.

Redskins have not scored 35+ points in 92 games. If you exclude OT, their streak is actually 97 games.

"I think I got more comfortable in the system," Kerrigan said. "I still need to get more comfortable and get better at rushing out of a two-point stance because, right now, I’d say that was my biggest flaw. That’s really something I’m gonna emphasize in the offseason. I want to work on being in the two-point stance and being a more productive player on two feet."

Cheers
Thanks for posting links to the year in photos and Kerrigan writeup. Much appreciated.

Good work man.
Enjoyed the Kerrigan write up, and couldn’t help but laugh at the Rex picture. He has a serious face on, but I can’t ever take him seriously.
UkRedskin - January 5, 2012
any time
When’s our next happy hour? Also, I’m planning on going to Caps @ Rangers in February. It’s a weekend day game…make it happen!
Kevin Ewoldt - January 5, 2012
Yeah, let’s not wait another year to grab another beer.
BrianMurphy - January 5, 2012
Did you see on Twitter
That Raheem Morris (the recently fired Bucs head coach) was having dinner with “Redskin brass” leading to heavy rumors of us hiring him?
UkRedskin - January 5, 2012
yea, i saved that one for it’s own post. Its up now.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 5, 2012
Yeah, just saw that as I posted this.
Interesting to see who he would fill in for. My friend is a Bucs fan and he still rates him fairly high.
UkRedskin - January 5, 2012
So Bucs fans do exist.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 5, 2012
Only in England
Sadly, I’ve now been to as many Bucs games as Redskins games. I only got to 1 skins game as a kid when I lived out there. And this past summer the whole family and a few friends (including the Bucs guy) went to Florida and we got to see Bucs vs Lions on opening day. But sitting in that stadium, I fully understand why its rarely sold out. It’s so stupidly hot anyway, add in the crowds of thousands of people and it feels like it’s 110 degrees when it’s only 90.
UkRedskin - January 5, 2012
glad those santonio holmes to the redskins rumors last offseason didn't come to fruition
atark001 - January 5, 2012
+1, I NEVER wanted that dude
Parks Smith - January 5, 2012
don't worry now we'll have the Vincent Jackson to the Redskins rumors
b/c he’s such a great guy and teammate
Steve Shoup - January 5, 2012
I hate you
Parks Smith - January 5, 2012
haha it was already in ESPN's rumor central today
based on the report that the Chargers don’t want to Franchise VJax again and owe him $13 million +
Steve Shoup - January 5, 2012
Wanted this two years ago.
Now he’s at the tail end of his prime, and we don’t need another Gaffney. I like Gaff but two average possession receivers isn’t helpful, and I feel VJax will be that in a couple seasons.
tuckwell - January 5, 2012 via iPhone app
That would have been a disaster.
HogHunter - January 5, 2012
On the subject of Santonio Holmes
The Jets will be looking to unload him for cheap…would anyone consider it a good move to land Holmes for a 6th round pick?
StephanHart - January 5, 2012
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Are we blind? Do you not see how a malcontent can turn a locker room and team upside down when they start to act out? The only way Holmes isn’t a problem is if his team is winning. We’re not winning. It would be a terrible decision. Pittsburgh didn’t want him despite his talent, and now the same thing is playing out in NY.
Parks Smith - January 5, 2012
Ha, was throwing it out there. Thought it would be a cheap way to pick up a good receiver, but you're right, he is a big malcontent
StephanHart - January 5, 2012
I would be shocked if the Jets can unload him
they guaranteed him $24 million of that $45 million and only about $4 million of the guaranteed portion has been paid out. He would have to agree to restructure just to trade him, and he might not want to do that since it would kill his leverage. Also for the Redskins that contract is significantly backloaded. so we’d be on the hook for some big pay days the next couple of years.
Steve Shoup - January 5, 2012
So getting him without a contract restructuring is out of the question
StephanHart - January 5, 2012
yeah and for both sides
The Jets aren’t in a great cap situation, and they’d have to eat like something like $18-20 million for him not to be on their team next year. The Redskins when they traded away Coles ate $9 million, but we were also getting Moss in return.
I’m obviously not big on any of the FA wide receivers, but I’d rather sign Bowe than pay similar (Bowe should get more) money to Holmes.
Steve Shoup - January 5, 2012
that rebuidling comparrison of seahawks and redskins makes a good point
that it wasn’t just a rebuild, but a tear down as well…i especially thought the piece was correct in stating how the offensive and defensive rebuild required a change in philosophy…seemed both our offense and defense were behind the times when it comes to football evolution….i loved greg blache personally, but he was hardly an innovator, and in this passing league we have now his defensive scheme was antiquated
atark001 - January 5, 2012
I can't get excited about Jammal Brown anymore
I think he’s done at OT.
aFan4Life - January 5, 2012
yeah def.
I’m glad there is some mention that he could be cut, though not sure where Jones got his 5 year $20 million contract from as it’s been widely reported that the deal was 5 years for $27.5 million. Maybe those initial reports were off, but i’ll be interested to see what happens.
Steve Shoup - January 5, 2012
that is good news
in the past we’ve had far too many guys we got stuck with because of how their contracts were written.
aFan4Life - January 5, 2012
yeah though even in Jones report (which as i said the numbers don't fully add up)
If we cut Brown now we only save $200K (so nothing), but clear the books for the future. If we cut him after June first we save $3.5 million now, but have to pay that money to him next year. (from the numbers I’ve seen, it would be cut him now pay $600K more, or cut him after June 1st, pay $1.3 million this year and $3.9 next year). I’d probably say cut him now so as not to impact next year’s cap, since the savings this year is minimal.
Steve Shoup - January 5, 2012
I agree especially now that we know he's isn't the present or future at RT
