We've been talking a lot about the Redskins offseason plans this week, but lets not forget their is a lot of football still on tap this Saturday and Sunday. The same brain-trust that is Hogs Haven brings you our Wild Card picks for this weekend. A couple of lone wolves in two of the matchups, and none of us believe in Detroit. What does everyone else think about this weekends games?

Just to qualify.
I went Bengals depending on the health of Dalton. If he doesn’t play, I’m going Texans.
UkRedskin - January 6, 2012
Make sure you all watch the Steelers/broncos game
It will mark the beginning of the end of this Pittsburgh team’s run. I do think they will remain good—especially on defense—but this current iteration won’t win any more Super Bowls.
Ken Meringolo - January 6, 2012
I do think it could be a trap game for the Steelers, they just don't score that much
Hurts that Mendentard and Clark are out. But if they air it out early and get up by two scores then the game is over. James Harrison may literally kill Tebow.
I’m kind of hoping it’s a close game and the Broncos lose, just because I want to see if Tebow cries like he did in the SEC title game.
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
I'd rather Tebow win this game
and cry the next game. I know a lot of Steelers fans that would be crushed if Tebow knocked them out of the playoffs.
HogHunter - January 6, 2012
Haha good point, but I can stomach the Steelers fans more so then the Tebow media praise.
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
Well I live in PA
So they’re everywhere here. My favorite Steelers fan is the Ex-Eagles fan who says its ok to switch teams because they’re both in PA.
HogHunter - January 6, 2012
Wait! You're allowed to switch teams?
Ok, I’m done, Take everyone.
Diesel44 - January 6, 2012
I agree that the Steelers are in decline
but a lot of that is on their poor OL. They got away from their identity as a power running / great defense team. Big Ben could have augmented that nicely but instead they’ve switched to being a gun slinging team which works well against some teams but has failed against teams with good defenses. They were swept by the Ravens this year and also lost to the Texans and 49ers.
They need to rebuild their OL.
aFan4Life - January 6, 2012
Texans, Falcons, Lions, Broncos.
I can’t believe I wasn’t contacted for my input on these predictions.
iH8dallas - January 6, 2012
B/c I would have had to change the pictures 200 times as you flip-flop throughout the week, haha
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
That's only on Redskins related matters.
iH8dallas - January 6, 2012
Just make an animated gif that changes between teams every 10 seconds.
HogHunter - January 6, 2012
haha that's a pretty good idea
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
Or just put this:
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
I see the jealousy of my genius picks is starting early this morning.
iH8dallas - January 6, 2012
I still use this method
HogHunter - January 6, 2012
I'm with Parks and Steve
Bengals have a QB advantage IMOand their defense will be slightly better. The Saints have already figured out how to shut out alvin Johnson and their offense is a juggernaut. The Giants are on fire on both sides of the ball. Eli + Cruz = several TDs while JPP + Tuck = long day for Ryan. nd the Bronos aren’t going to win a playoff game with a QB who an’t throw. The Broncos didn’t even score a single TD on the Chiefs and they think they’re going to do it on the Steelers? Not even with all the injuries on the Steelers.
aFan4Life - January 6, 2012
That's Calvin Johnson
my work PC is a pile of doo doo and it keeps hanging up when I’m typing. I guess it’s randomly filtering characters as I type.
aFan4Life - January 6, 2012
Ken Flanders
The only reason Ken picked the Broncos is so Jesus will forgive him for skipping Mass on Sunday.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 6, 2012
He's also thankful his mom had him
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
I will be wearing my Champ Bailey jersey
He will score a touchdown in that game.
Ken Meringolo - January 6, 2012
Hopefully with pants on this time.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 6, 2012
There is a 50% chance of snow in Denver on Sunday, a similar percentage on Ken wearing pants
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
scary statistic
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
Pants are for sissies
How we ever got away from the kilt, I will never know. Unless it is single digits, it is shorts weather.
Ken Meringolo - January 6, 2012
bring ur manpons!
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
Im sick of the Saints, they will probably win but I am sick of them
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
You're not allowed to say that about the Saints
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
why not?
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
They are America's sweetheart.
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
I know right, damn bandwagon fans in NC here too.
After Katrina it seemed like everyone was a Saints fan. I actually used to like them a bit but since it seems that people thought they deserved that SB more than anyone else….blah blah blah.
Speaking of bandwagon fans, how many true Patriots fans do you know btw? I remember growing up with my Skins and no Pats fans around….now it seems everyone around this damn place is either a Pats fan or a cowgirl fan
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
with the exception of redneck Panther fans
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
Not sure where you are in NC
but in Wilmington all I see are Steeler fans all over the place and some Panther fans who have to be the least knowledgeable fan base in all of sports.
Wilmncskinsfan - January 6, 2012
Rocky Mount
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
People actually live in Rocky Mount?
I played golf there last year…
Parks Smith - January 7, 2012
where did you play?
irishgoon - January 8, 2012
The Golf Club at Rocky Mount
Parks Smith - January 8, 2012
i never played over there at Ford's Colony, how was the course?
irishgoon - January 8, 2012
Here's my exact reasoning for my picks.....
Saints – (they’ve covered every home game this year)
Texans – (Bengals have not beaten a team with a winning record in their last 5 games)
Falcons – (Giants went 4-4 at home this year, and I can’t pick the 4 favorites)
Steelers – (Jesus can walk on water, but he ain’t beating Dick Lebeau)
Kevin Ewoldt - January 6, 2012
Bengals have actually not beaten a team with a winning record since Week 9.
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
Here's Kevin's exact reasoning for his picks:
Saints: Everybody in the world is picking them
Texans: His friend coached TJ Yates at UNC
Falcons: The Redskins beat the Giants twice, so…they suck
Steelers: Jesus gave Kevin a fake number when they met at a club a couple years ago and he has never gotten over it.
Ken Meringolo - January 6, 2012
- Says the guy Redskins should have signed Ryan Harris.
- Says the guy that said Steve Spurrier’s offense would translate in the NFL.
- Says the guy that was FOR the McNabb trade.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 6, 2012
I've said it once and I'll say it again...
Who would have ever thought a coach in the NFL would CHOOSE to employ ZERO pass protection? I mean, nobody could have seen that coming!
Ken Meringolo - January 6, 2012
All the teams that passed on him. He didnt have protection in college either, so….
We’ve all heard Spurrier talk. I’d pay $1000 to watch a video of that Snyder Spurrier interview.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 6, 2012
"Hey bud, yall got golf courses around here?"
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
True story:
Spurrier: (Looks up) What’s this?
Marv Lewis: It’s called sleet, coach.
Spurrier: Aww, we can’t practice in this. EVERYONE OFF THE FIELD! No practice!
Marv: What??? No no! Everyone back out there!
Kevin Ewoldt - January 6, 2012
haha I was actually about to bring that up, it's one of my favorite stories
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
I remember that too, it was hilarious
what a pansy
aFan4Life - January 6, 2012
all the people who watched his bowl game against Nebraska
I honestly felt sorry for his QB even though I wanted Spurrier to lose.
aFan4Life - January 6, 2012
ouch
that’s a few hits below the belt!
aFan4Life - January 6, 2012
serious cup check
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
You haven't been paying attention, Ken doesn't wear pants thus no belt
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
sounds breezy, especially this time of year!
aFan4Life - January 6, 2012
i love playoff football
especially the divisional round next week (there always seems to be the best games then)
i think the falcons are going to steam roll the giants…the g-men won only 3 of their last 8 games (two of which were dallas), while the falcons have been looking good lately
i think the bengals come out in a close one
i don’t see the lions being able to keep up with the saints in what looks to be a shootout ( think the lions will commit more turnovers or make some immature mistake)
and i’m going with the steelers over the broncos, tebow’s been turning the ball over alot lately, and i just think the steelers will be able to stifle the broncos’ run game
atark001 - January 6, 2012
yea
Everyone is making a big deal Matt Ryan has only played 1 cold game in his career. Dude went to f’n Boston College.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 6, 2012
i know right
he’ll show up, plus with michael turner and a physical offensive line, they have the make up of a good cold weather team
atark001 - January 6, 2012
That was like the Bucs stats for years and years and years
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
And that stat “no one has won in GB when temperature is under 30 degrees”…and Vick went and did it.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 6, 2012
Seems like that Bucs game made everyone forget about the Falcons getting steamrolled 45-16 the week before
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
true, but all in and all they've played well over the last 8 games of the year
divisional games can always be tricky too
atark001 - January 6, 2012
I don't know man they beat Tampa, Carolina, Jacksonville, Minnesota, Tennesee, and Indy.
They have one win against a playoff team (Detroit). If the game was in Atlanta then I would like them, but I think the Giants get their running game back and Coughlin will be ready.
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
falcons are pretty stout against the run though
atark001 - January 6, 2012
To use Kevin's reasoning, the Falcons have not beat a winning team in their last 6 games
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
that's a valid point as well
but when i look at the giants lately (at least when they don’t play the cowboys), i don’t see them being able to stop the falcons’ offense
atark001 - January 6, 2012
Yea I mean I definitely don't think it will be easy, I just see the Giants pulling it out (they always seem to)
I hope the Falcons win though
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
fair enough, which is exactly why this time of year is so fun
one and done….this type of pressure to perform makes NFL playoffs superior to the playoffs in other sports with the 7 game series i personally believe
atark001 - January 6, 2012
God, watching ESPN and a commercial for Criss Angel comes on......
ugh he is such a douche.
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
There is always one shocker in the wild-card round
This year it will be Denver beating Pittsburgh.
New Orleans will defeat Detroit in a blowout
Best game to watch will be Cincinnati and Houston–Cincinnati wins on their coaching decisions and strategy
New York will defeat Atlanta fairly easily–they have a better defense, coaching, and quarterback. I am also not convinced that Atlanta’s home field is that much of an advantage
Skins Fan '77 - January 6, 2012
i have seen enough Tebowing here at the mall and Target, if they win i might not be able to take it
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
i don't understand (or maybe I do) why kneeling down to pray after a TD is called Tebowing
when NFL players have been doing that for decades now
atark001 - January 6, 2012
the masses have selective amnesia
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
good point
my knock on Tebow is his inability to pass, not his religion.
aFan4Life - January 6, 2012
The shocking part of the victory
Will be that TiVo won’t have much to do with it.
John Fox and his staff will make adjustments to what other teams have been doing to them for the last three weeks.
I think we will see a completely different look to Denver
Skins Fan '77 - January 6, 2012
It may be closest game, but it may also be the hardest to watch. Kubiak needs to open the playbook up for Yates.
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
You're right, that is a more accurate description of that game
Skins Fan '77 - January 6, 2012
Given all the injuries to PIT, it’s hard not to take the points in that game.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 6, 2012
I think you have a gambling problem
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
what is the spread
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
Point spread, like how many points a team is favored by
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
smart ass
you know what i meant
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
My bad, for real, my brain was working. I seriously thought you were asking "what is a spread"
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
haha
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
I think the answer he wanted was 8.5
Skins Fan '77 - January 6, 2012
gracias, was too lazy to look it up but I should have known better with this group
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
No problem, we Irish need to stick together
Skins Fan '77 - January 6, 2012
Do you find yourself betting on a lot of Hawaii football and basketball games to play catch up late at night
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
I would never put money on a basketball game
That is scary crap-remember the officiating fiasco?
One player twist on ankle and you are screwed
if gambling is an addiction, then basketball betting is the crack cocaine.
Betting on football is like a nice mellow buzz
Skins Fan '77 - January 6, 2012
It's fine for college not the NBA though.
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
I probably bet once a month when I see a mismatched line…but it’s a $400 bet. I’m 2-0 this year, but I took a bath on that Skins Titans game last year.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 6, 2012
Definitely take the points
Skins Fan '77 - January 6, 2012
I wouldn't mind seeing the Bengals do something with their opportunity, plus I hate Texas teams
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
Damn Lomas Brown has a big damn head
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
and Bayless has the most annoying voice ever that fucking cowboy lover
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
UkRedskin got it right IMO
Bengals vs. Texans
Lions vs. Saints
Falcons vs. Giants
Steelers vs. Broncos
Fresh92 - January 6, 2012
But what do I know...
I picked Clemson to beat WVU a couple days ago
Fresh92 - January 6, 2012
What do you guys think of McElroy's comments?
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
Being that I hate the Jets, I love it!
Weird thing is leaving the combine, I had time to kill and was getting Chinese food at the Indy airport. McElroy was in front of me with his arm cast on. We got to chat for a few mins. Good kid…it surprised me he spoke up like this. He took his tray to a table with Chris Mortensen…I thought about taking the final chair at the small table but sobriety told me “no.”
Kevin Ewoldt - January 6, 2012
you know you love the Mort
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
seriously though I am surprised as well and I think it is easy for him to say since he probably won't be in the lineup with these guys
irishgoon - January 6, 2012
Here is where we get to pit our skills against the experts...
I am going with Texans (home / running game), Saints (what a shotout / game of the weekend), Steelers (please. Tebow…) and my upset, the Falcons on the road.
Can’t wait until Monday where we can look back…
jgibbsfan1 - January 6, 2012
was hoping some1 would do a playoff tree pick em. since i suck at picking college games lol
heres my picks…. 1.bengals over texans 2. giants over falcons 3. saints over lions 4. upset special broncos over the steelers..
im ready for round 2.. but i dont wanna give the guys at the round table any advantages with my good picks :)
munson21502 - January 6, 2012
i knew i shouldnt have picked a afc north team...
all 3 of them might not win a game. if it wasnt for the steelers get another lucky match up.. i hope they get tebowed so bad lol
munson21502 - January 8, 2012
oh, well...
2-2. I guess that is ok (awesome if you are in baseball). At least I was as good as the guys (Sorry, UK).
jgibbsfan1 - January 8, 2012
wow
Ok now Pouncey is not playing. Jesus hates Pittsburgh. I mean…look what he did to Crosby.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 6, 2012 via mobile
he aint the only one lol
sucks about the rb coach getting hurt in a house fire though
munson21502 - January 6, 2012
Check out this Broncos nugget
Parks Smith - January 6, 2012
i was thinking of the bronos sneaking in another qb to play
i just got a feeling tebow is gonna lead the final drive and beat the steelers
munson21502 - January 6, 2012
interesting
i’m curious just how much they changed the offense when they tailored it to Tebow…would reverting back to a normal pro-style offense regress a team that’s played a certain way for the last half of the season, would they have Orton run the option too, or maybe the basic tenets of the offense are still there and there’d be no problem
atark001 - January 6, 2012
orton isnt on the team anymore
they might switch qiunn and tebow in and out of the game at will to keep the steelers guessing. maybe have both in at the same time more then a few times also.
munson21502 - January 6, 2012
sorry i meant quinn
atark001 - January 6, 2012
if Quinn is an upgrade they are in trouble
the Broncos are lucky that the Steelers are so banged up.
aFan4Life - January 6, 2012
That’s the truth.
