I hope Tannehill and Foles commit to the Senior Bowl.
I’d like Shanny to get an up close look at these guys. Plus if I’m them, I say to myself, “this coach is looking for a QB, let me show him what I can do.”
iH8dallas - January 9, 2012
I whole heartedly agree
This is an excellent chance to impress a QB needy coach. I hope the take the opportunity.
mbedner - January 9, 2012 via mobile
I wonder how josh mcdainels feels
watching a 1-15 coach who he was replaced for take his team into the playoffs
If rg3 goes back. Do we start looking to schaub and flynn? and tannehil as a back up to them ?
taylor21 - January 9, 2012
I'm curious as to how Shanahan will play this.
I think the smart thing to do would be an attempt at a trade back and grab Foles/Tannehill and a WR/OL early on. Then sign Flynn to hold it down.
I think if we sign Flynn it takes the pressure off of reaching for a QB in round one and puts us in a better position to trade back.
iH8dallas - January 9, 2012
I love this scenario
Matt Flynn Starting, 2nd rounder (Foles/Tannehill) backing up and developing, and then a late round/UDFA QB with a lot of upside as the 3rd stringer.
3 new QBs are needed on this team, along with a lot of new starters.
StephanHart - January 9, 2012
I think if we sign Flynn and trade back we should grab Tannehill and Michael Floyd.
Maybe that guard from Stanford.
iH8dallas - January 9, 2012
Yup, i think you'd have to be very happy with that sort of draft in the early rounds
StephanHart - January 9, 2012
Unless Cincy is dumb enough to give us both of their first round picks, I don't see that happening
I have a feeling come draft day, both Tannehill and Floyd will be drafted in roughly the same spots. It’ll be tough to pull off, but that would be so ideal to get both of them.
mbedner - January 9, 2012
I could see Cleveland making a move for our pick
They draft griffin with their 1st pick, swap their second 1st rd pick with us to get richardson. Problem is that Floyd would be off the board at that point
Redskin44 - January 9, 2012
that would be an interesting scenario
i think that type of trade would net us a first rounder next year as well, because of how far back cleveland’s late pick would be in relation to our pick…then having two first rounders next year would give us the opportunity to move up if need be
atark001 - January 9, 2012
agreed
plus a couple of extra picks in rds 2 to 5 this year
Redskin44 - January 9, 2012
I think both will be in the 15-20 range
Parks Smith - January 9, 2012
I'm 100% behind that plan
aFan4Life - January 9, 2012
If we sign Flynn, we should be using the 2nd round pick on an OLineman, WR, or corner.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 9, 2012
What do you think the first rounder should be used on?
iH8dallas - January 9, 2012
We need a playmaking WR.
Monk said it was ok.
Kevin Ewoldt - January 9, 2012
Blackmon is who I want as well, but will he be available at 6 is the question. His stock has shot up now too.
HTTR4LIFE - January 9, 2012
I think once the combine starts another WR will emerge
but I did watch the espn sports science on blackmon. He is comparable to megatron
taylor21 - January 9, 2012
No, he won't
CJHutch - January 9, 2012
Blackmon scares me, especially at 6. It's hard for me to justify a WR in the Top 10 unless its Megatron, AJ Green type
Blackmon doesn’t grade as well as both. Oklahoma State’s offense is kind of gimmicky and I just wish he was taller.
Warren Moon’s comments the other day were pretty funny though.
Parks Smith - January 9, 2012
For some reason, I was under the impression he was taller until recently..
In my opinion that is his only downfall. The kid has a tremendous skill set and some really good hands.
I still support the idea to stay put at 6 and see if RGIII falls that far, I just can’t see trading up just a few picks and risking giving up good value in the long run(unless it’s for Luck). IF they pass on Blackmon or RGIII/Luck are to expensive to make a move for, then they also have the option of trading back.
HTTR4LIFE - January 9, 2012
Isn't he like 6'3" or 6'4"
That’s tall enough for me.
mbedner - January 9, 2012
Believe he's listed at 6'2, couple inches shorter than Megatron
StephanHart - January 9, 2012
He's 6'1, may even be shorter at the combine
Parks Smith - January 9, 2012
Lets keep shrinking him: He and Santana Moss are about the same size
StephanHart - January 9, 2012
are you planning on trading up for a WR instead?
DavidDunn - January 9, 2012
I think Orton
would serve that purpose and cost a lot less
Redskin44 - January 9, 2012
Ugh
iH8dallas - January 9, 2012
I hear you
and I know Flynn has more upside. But Orton is a proven commodity, even if he is just mediocre, he is a much better game manager than Grossman. Also, if they sign Flynn, then I doubt they will go after RGIII.
Redskin44 - January 9, 2012
I myself shudder at the thought of having the old ‘QB tandem’ from Chicago back together and in Burgundy and Gold. Thoughts of mediocre football race through my head.
HTTR4LIFE - January 9, 2012
i would not keep grossman
and signing orton would allow us to draft griffin if he is still available.
Redskin44 - January 9, 2012
I'd actually prefer Orton to Flynn for several reasons
It’ll be interesting to see what the Chiefs do now that Crennel is the coach.
Parks Smith - January 9, 2012
I think I would too.
I’d be nice to have a cheap ‘mentor’ for our young QB to ‘learn’ from.
mbedner - January 9, 2012
Ha, do the quotations suggest that Orton wouldnt be a mentor nor teach the young QB anything?
StephanHart - January 9, 2012
God no
May as well keep Grossman
CJHutch - January 9, 2012
No pressure is alleviated...zero...
he signed McNabb, Grossman, and Beck via FA….
He is past 3 strikes….signing Flynn will increase win now pressure…not decrease it…
DavidDunn - January 9, 2012
Whats going to decrease it? Trading up to get that "can't miss" QB?
StephanHart - January 9, 2012
Trading up buys him a minimum of two years
he will be able to use the “First Year” excuse…even if they go 2-14…
and he knows it…
DavidDunn - January 9, 2012
He didn't sign Beck via free agency
Parks Smith - January 9, 2012
FA...trade and signed to extension...same difference...he went and got him...
and then staked his reputation on him….I think you know what I meant…
but you are technically correct…
DavidDunn - January 9, 2012
Schaub isn't going anywhere
Parks Smith - January 9, 2012
What, you're not one of the crazies that thinks Houston will drop Schaub because
Yates is performing moderately well?
mbedner - January 9, 2012
no doubt
they are a much better team with him and Yates is just a fill in.
aFan4Life - January 9, 2012
as a hokie its hard for me to say this
but i think drafting moore late would be a great idea, hes won a ridiculous amount of games
hokie skin - January 9, 2012
I'm all over moore like corn on a dog
