Since Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen have taken the reigns for the Redskins we have been one of the most active teams there has been on trade market. Some have been good, Adam Carriker and Jabar Gaffney come to mind, and some bad, Donovan McNabb. ShanAllen have also been very active in trading within the draft, something I won't be surprised to see again. But outside of the draft, who are some guys the Skins could target this year to improve their 2012 squad? I don't think we have as many trade chips this year, but you never know what kind of junk other teams may want.
Ryan Clady, OT: Community question, would you trade the #6 overall pick for Ryan Clady? I would and I think that would be a steal. I think he'd cost more than that, but why not give John Fox a call. Clady was originally drafted by Shanahan, is 25, and is already a two-time Pro Bowler. This move makes even more sense if Peyton Manning is brought in, rather than a young QB.
Brandon Marshall, WR: I'm not big on headcase, bi-polar wide receivers but will Joe Philbin want to deal with Brandon Marshall's "baggage"? I think if anyone can control Marshall its Shanny. Isn't Marshall the big play guy we're looking for? BMarsh may not garner as much as he used to and we could be able to obtain him for a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Aqib Talib, CB: Simply put, this guy is a moron. But he's a talented moron. Raheem Morris stuck with him in Tampa, so would the Redskins be willing to take a cheap flyer on Talib? Morris could certainly give him more individual attention in DC and help keep him out of trouble.
The question isn't what big names could end up in DC, but what minor moves could help this club like the Carriker and Gaffney deals?

Nope, nope, nope and nope.
iH8dallas - February 13, 2012
No Clady?
Whatchu smokin?
Ronnie Adkins - February 13, 2012
not for the 6th overall pick
aFan4Life - February 13, 2012
Why not? The Broncos would likely want more than that, actually.
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
He is probably worth it to a team whose only real need is OT
To me, we have so many more holes that can be filled. I’m an advocate of trading out of 6 and acquiring more picks… perhaps another 2013 1st rounder.
mbedner - February 13, 2012
But its not like you're giving it away, you're gettin an established pro bowler.
It comes with less risk than Kalil, Martin, Reiff, etc.
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
I agree completely. But I really want us acquire more picks.
and as much as I like Clady, who really is an exceptional talent, I just can’t defend giving up pick(s) when we have so many holes. That is mainly why I’m not in the trade it all for RG3, Luck camp (currently).
mbedner - February 13, 2012
Man, I get really lackadaisical when I edit my comments on HH at work. Probably too concerned about people looking over my shoulder...
mbedner - February 13, 2012
Can only give up the #6 for anything not a QB
if they have already acquired Manning. Got to get a QB over any other position. Period. Exclamation Point!
ThrowItDownBigManThrowItDown - February 13, 2012
Er,mmm, maybe–hell no–oh hell no–you must be out of your tree
Skins Fan '77 - February 13, 2012
Ryan Clady is the only one
But I can’t see giving up the 6th overall pick for him…
mbedner - February 13, 2012
agree
smutsboy1 - February 13, 2012
I'd consider the first two, but can't fathom the second two.
Price tag on Clady might be too steep, considering his knee injury.
SSBlitz - February 13, 2012
I'd rather see a trade down from our #6 overall
And target Mike Adams in the middle of the 1st round.
SSBlitz - February 13, 2012
I can't wait for free agency to get here, so it clears some of this up for us.
These posts get more absurd every single day.
Trade the #6 for Clady? Really, when we just drafted a tackle two years ago with the #4 pick? Seems like a wise move.
Samuel and cheap don’t go in the same sentence.
Marshall and Talib would round out the All-Dumbass Team. SWEET!

spending good resources TWICE on the OL would be SO CRAZY!!
We haven’t done that since, Jon Jansen & Chris Samuels.
Good thing that didn’t work out for us.
smutsboy1 - February 13, 2012
You only need one offensive lineman to succeed in the league!
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
Well, to be honest
Exactly how well DID it work out for us?

we made playoffs 2 of the last 3 times we've done it in 20+ years.

This is what scares me more than anything
Ever notice how careful you are when you don’t have a lot of money to spend?
Ever notice how careless or extravagant you get when you have too much?
I just have is that feeling that the organization is going to go into
"The Future Is Now" mode again (it is still one year too early)
Skins Fan '77 - February 13, 2012
Allocating Team resources: What are the choices?
On defense based on last seasons performance including lack of it due to injuries. The defensive backfield was the weakest area of concern due to injuries to safeties (Landry and Atogwe) and due to coverage due to corner backs (Hall and nickle DBs). The front seven could have been better on run defense, but the pass rush was decent on sacks.
On offense a quality QB was missing and the line play was inconsistent. Injuries contributed to the lines inconsistency since a new group had the job frequently. The running game did better towards the end of the season even with more rookies playing.
More depth across the board would help because injuries are inevitable. While more talented starters, especially at RT, LG, and C, there needs to be some balance in the salaries in the OL group (1st round talent at RT is a questionable need but opponents are more and more playing good pass rushers on both sides of their defenses).
Jefferson1935 - February 13, 2012

And you left out Randy Moss at WR...
You might as well go with all the head cases around the league minus Clady, who I would like to see as a redskin but not for any draft picks…
dr WNC - February 13, 2012
Um
Hell no.
That 6th pick could translate to a stud Guard, Right Tackle, and WR in the draft.
TheDeepBall - February 13, 2012
I would trade for clady
but i wouldnt go higher than our 2nd round pick isnt he coming off a season ending injury?
no thanks to marshall he had a ton of td drops this year
samuel = hall with worse tackling
talib interesting and a real posibility with the ties to bruce allan and coach morris with his off the field issues I would offer more than a 3d or 4th round pick
taylor21 - February 13, 2012
this is the stupidest thing i've ever read
Howard11 - February 13, 2012
Haha
iH8dallas - February 13, 2012
Please. Anything involving "trade for Peyton" is 100x dumber.
These were all reasonable questions, even if you disgaree with them.
Funny how folks think these ideas are stupid, but then people want to sign more expensive big name free agents again.
smutsboy1 - February 13, 2012
Trade for Peyton is stupid without question
Sign a cut Peyton with an incentive based contract that will cost us nothing if it fails is a great idea.
Jeff Bernard - February 13, 2012
I don’t think ‘great’ means what you think it means.
Trading for Clady is 100x better than signing peyton manning.
smutsboy1 - February 13, 2012
Hyperbole is 100x better than Peyton AND Clady put together.
Reedskin - February 13, 2012
ooh a semantics argument!
smutsboy1 - February 13, 2012
Did Ken actually right this?
I am asking because it is just like one of his pieces that tries to be funny but you’re not really sure if it is trying to be funny or serious. With the exception of Clady this is a collection of the worst possible people we could trade for. Even Clady for the #6 is a terrible idea. The #6 could potentially offer us Claiborne, Blackmon, DeCastro/Martin. I would take those guys with their salary and age over Clady 10x out of 10.
Jeff Bernard - February 13, 2012
It's really just to promote discussion.
People seem to think every post is “This is what I would do”, a lot of people take it as an open discussion and actually discuss the scenarios.
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
+1
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve put an ‘Option’ out there and people think it’s the one I’m going for.
Ronnie Adkins - February 13, 2012
Yes and that is fine
But these are all terrible scenarios. This isn’t like “discuss who would you take at #6” or “whats more important, Line or QB”. Those are open discussions where each side has a reasonable argument(usually). Anyone who would come on here and seriously advocate trading for any of these guys is obviously insane. Besides, like you said in the piece, we don’t have jack anyone would want.
p.s. I didn’t think you were pushing for any of these trades
Jeff Bernard - February 13, 2012
I don't see how anyone could view Clady trade as insane. If the Broncos accepted then I'd bolt out the door running.
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
Clady is the only player on the list
But it is insane because why the hell would the Broncos trade their 25 year old Pro Bowl Lineman for the #6 pick?
Wait a minute….I see what you are doing. We are now discussing. Damn you.
Jeff Bernard - February 13, 2012
haha, I don't know maybe the 6th pick is enough to sway them.
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
Clady is coming off of a down year
I remember watching him last year and being appalled by how bad he looked. Perhaps he was injured, but do we really want to trade for another injured tackle? I don’t doubt Clady can bounce back, but it’s too risky to spend our 1st rounder on. We could just go ahead and draft a guy who will be younger and a whole lot cheaper.
CarverM - February 13, 2012
exactly why I am also opposed to the trade
aFan4Life - February 13, 2012
Come on now, maybe he just wasn't suited for the "Tebow" offense. Its not like it was the most traditional scheme ever
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
So he didn't need to pass block?
It’s possible he had a down year due to the scheme but is he really recovered? The last veteran OT we picked up who’d had an injury hasn’t worked out so we need to make sure we don’t do that again.
aFan4Life - February 14, 2012
hmmm. 25 versus 30
Parks Smith - February 14, 2012
well Denver ran the ball like 70% of the time once Tebow took over
and his pass blocking wasn’t really the issue. It wasn’t his best year pass blocking, but that is not why he struggled.
As for the injury he missed only like 2 snaps all season, and never missed a game in 4 years, far better than Brown who has never started 16 games in a year, much less 4 in a row.
Steve Shoup - February 14, 2012
i'm not denying it was a down year for Clady, but a lot of that is due to the style of the offense
he’s always been more of a finesse type blocker, who excels at pass blocking, the Denver offense was the exact opposite of that. If his medicals checked out i would almost definitely do this trade. He’s started every single game of his NFL career so far (4 years), which as we see from guys like TW and Brown isn’t easy.
Steve Shoup - February 13, 2012
I'd rather just take a rookie at #6
You wouldn’t have the injury history or the contract.
CarverM - February 13, 2012
i don't disagree with that
as i’d def. take Reiff there or trade back. I just don’t think Clady is much of a risk, but I’ll take the younger player under control for longer.
Steve Shoup - February 13, 2012
This is the type of post that Parks would usually reply to with a Capt. Picard Gif.
iH8dallas - February 13, 2012
Come on man, give it a rest. I'm not endorsing these it is a discussion.
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
Gotta be honest, Parks
I appreciate the different discussion topics. Just the thought of adding guys who may or may not be realistic. Plus I’m always interested to hear opinions on Brandon Marshall haha
Ohio Redskins - February 13, 2012
Thanks man, I'd be interested to hear what other guys may be viable trade targets ala Gaffney/Hightower last year.
I wish had some more “junk” to sell, like Jeremy Jarmon last year.
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
I have a feeling that we're going to make some kind of big move.
On the defensive side of the ball. I told my fiance, after we let Joe Webb and the 1 win Vikings beat us, that I just have a feeling we’re going to sign or trade for a big name guy in the offseason.
Ohio Redskins - February 13, 2012
I don't see it, but who know's.
Lance Briggs seems to be linked to this team every year, including now. But I don’t think he’d be a good fit.
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
Agreed
I can’t help but think about David Hawthorne starting alongside Perry Riley if London doesn’t return
Ohio Redskins - February 13, 2012
Yea that would be nice
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
How would you list Beck for sale…. Used QB low mileage never actually won a game and only peed in pants twice.
future is now - February 13, 2012
I'd be interested to hear if anyone has some trade targets that are more along the lines of Carriker or Gaffney.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we trade for another pass rusher like Carricker (if he leaves) or maybe Balmer is thought to be that guy.
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
Depth chart on Redskins.com
Has Balmer as a second behind Bowen. Don’t know how often they update that.
Ronnie Adkins - February 13, 2012

Kentwan Balmer

Parks Smith - February 13, 2012

Jefferson1935 - February 14, 2012
How about Ryan Harris?
I remember when he was an FA last year that he publicly voiced that he wanted to come to DC, but there were injuries issues. I don’t know what he wants contract-wise, but I can’t imagine anything above 1-2 mil a year after last season. He went on the Broncos before the divisional game after Kuper was injured, and apparently signed a 2 year contract, but could easily be had. Also seems to be a class act, and that his former bronco teammates/fans thought highly of him.
Thoughts?
itsstevenweinstein - February 13, 2012
i could be wrong but..
Isnt the reason marshall is in miami because him and shanny didnt get along in denver? I also for some reason thought that was one of the big reasons he left denver in the first place?? Please correct me if im wrong…
skinzaholic56 - February 13, 2012 via mobile
BMarsh was sent to Miami in 2010. He was still on the squad when McDaniels was there, I believe
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
I wonder if we could sign Drew Brees for the league minimum?
Maybe we could trade a 5th rounder for Patrick Willis.
iH8dallas - February 13, 2012
Randy Moss is making a comeback... He's a big name...
preppiejack - February 13, 2012
He's a trade candidate?
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
He's a big name.
I moreso just wanted to get his name out there on HH, and I didn’t feel like doing a FanShot.
preppiejack - February 13, 2012
You really want Randy Moss? Or just trying to gauge opinions?
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
Just Guaging Opinion
I’m not too down for a 35 year old receiver who is a year removed from playing. I loved Randy Moss and watching him throughout his career, but I don’t want to pay $ to have him taking snaps that should go to developing a Hankerson or some other young gun.
preppiejack - February 13, 2012
No, but T.O. Is
What would it take to wrastle him from the Wranglers?
CJHutch - February 13, 2012
So wait, suggesting a trade for Clady inspires all these responses, but then in other posts we get brilliant suggestions like Peyton or Desean Jackson?
Ugh.
smutsboy1 - February 13, 2012
I'd be more inclined
to try an unload guys via a trade then acquire players. Doubt we would have any takers, but would love to trade Cooley, Moss or Gaffney, Brown and Hall.
Redskin44 - February 13, 2012
I don't think we conduct trades with UFL teams.
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
Ok smart guy... Then how are we going to get Colt Brennan back?
Duh.
preppiejack - February 13, 2012
Why the hell would you want to trade our best receiver?
Jeff Bernard - February 13, 2012
Moss? or gaffney?
Redskin44 - February 13, 2012
Gaffney
Moss is old and jumps every time he catches the ball
Why does he jump every damn time? He will catch a ball right in his chest and he still jumps. It is the weirdest thing i’ve ever seen. Well except for Clinton Portis tipping over on every run.
Jeff Bernard - February 13, 2012
Gaffney and Moss are both 30+ possession receivers. I don’t think we need both of them on the roster. I would prefer to trade Moss, but given his contract, nobody is going to want him. Gaffney is coming off a big year and has a much more modest contract. We might be able to get a 6th round pick for him.
Redskin44 - February 13, 2012
Jumping can lower the force of impact from a vicious hit
It is a slightly better defense mechanism than just going into the ground, sometimes you can still get yards after the catch. All the small guys do several things to protect themselves.
You can say that Santana Moss always jumps and Wes Welker always goes to ground.
Skins Fan '77 - February 13, 2012
Yea I don't get trading Gaffney.
I think he’s a tremendous asset to a young QB or a new QB. He’s reliable. Although his stock may be “high”
Parks Smith - February 13, 2012
Ryan Clady
is on my Madden Ultimate Team, and he’s fantastic! haha!
Cal4Commish - February 13, 2012
ha
smutsboy1 - February 13, 2012
I've changed my mind. Trade for Clady right now!
If he’s good on Madden, he must be an excellent fit for us.
mbedner - February 13, 2012
Nah to Marshall, nah to Samuel.
Clady would all depend on the price, and seeing as this upcoming first round pick may determine Shanahan’s future, I don’t know what we have that’s tradeable.
I’d be interested in Talib, I could see it panning out for the reasons you mentioned.
Brutus89 - February 13, 2012
Price tag for Clady may be close to what we would pay to trade up for RGIII.
I’ll take RGIII + TW over Clady all day!
Copious 1 - February 13, 2012
Well we’re signing both Peyton AND Brees according to some, so trading for Clady is actually a great option now.
Brutus89 - February 13, 2012
The only tradable junk that I see
OJ–only one year removed from being a good player, we might be able to fool a team into a trade.
Chris Cooley–I hate having to trade our only consistently productive weapon, but he has not finished the last two seasons. I think he will come back strong this year and I bet we could convince other teams to the same line of thinking. Only problem is we are left with only Davis as a threat.
Willie Davis–as shown some flashes and could develop into a player, only problem here is we need tackles, I don’t think we can afford to let him go.
Trent Williams–yeah, I said it. Basically not going to happen for the same reasons as Willie Davis listed above.
Skins Fan '77 - February 13, 2012
Do you mean Willie Smith?
mbedner - February 13, 2012
Dammit, I keep doing that. Yes, I meant Willie Smith
Skins Fan '77 - February 13, 2012
Here's what I think...
Would love Clady, but only if we address QB in free agency. Otherwise we need to be all in on RGIII. Other OL’s like Grubbs and Nicks are available without having to give up picks.
I would do Marshall for a 3rd. He’s a great wideout, and the Shanny connection is invaluable. Would give Griffin the key receiver he needs to succeed early on. Marshall, Gaffney, Moss, Hankerson is a potentially dangerous receiving team.
On Samuel, I’d rather go with somebody younger, although I still remember how Shawn Springs stayed with us year after year. Wouldn’t be against it.
No to Talib. Headcase dumbass idiot.
Andrew DeFrank - February 13, 2012
What if talib and his gang bangin momma came as a package deal?
Would you do the trade then? Two for one…
Bryan Black - February 13, 2012 via Android app
Id be down for all but Samuel
Brandon Marshall for a 3rd or 4th? I dont care if he is a headcase. The man can play. Shannahan already knows how to deal with him. If Morris can control Talib, I would be all for that as well.
redskinhokie88 - February 13, 2012
I don't know why Denver would go for that deal
If were not willing to take the risk on an OT preferring to go for the established player then why would they go for it?
Id take Marshall for that in a heartbeat but again why would Miami take that deal, he’s definitely worth more than a 3 or 4 even with his past.
