Moss has been away from the game for a year and a half, and all of the questions about him will certainly get answered in due time. The more pressing matter, though, might be the way in which Moss let the world know he planned to (try to) make a comeback: with a live stream on the Internet that was reportedly seen by just 200 people.

Let's officially say "No" to Randy Moss today

he’s proven he is lazy and a locker room cancer so he can go play for the Jets as they seem to like that in their locker room.

I agree 100% and also I’m glad that the Redskins have managed to avoid that cancer altogether even though at one point in time his talents could have fit the need we have had at WR for years. Imagine what his career would have been like if his attitude was different.

Randy Moss was definitely one of the greatest.

But honestly, what Larry Fitzgerald did in the Cardinals’ Superbowl run a few years ago may have been the greatest WR performance I’ve ever seen.

Loved watching Randy make plays

and I agree with iH8dallas about Fitz… but I still can’t quit laughing at Calvin Johnson’s 96, 1681, & 16 line from this past year.

Yeah, Calvin Johnson doesn't make any sense.

He’s from another planet.

yes he could have been great

as it was he was really good but he took off too many plays to be great. He had the talent but didn’t get nearly enough out of it.

he was great

but could have been the best. I remember Jerry Rice saying saying the same and wishing he had as much talent Moss.

he had great seasons but was too inconsistent to be considered a great WR

Wait, you’re saying Randy Moss wasn’t “great”?

He’s easily one of the best WRs of all time.

no the sum total isn't great

he had great moments and even a few great seasons but those are ruined by all the plays he’d take off, his laziness and his attitude. If I could choose WRs for my team from the years Moss played he wouldn’t be one of them. Yes he had the talent which he blew. Just from his contemporaries I’d rather have Marvin Harrison, Torry Holt, Andre Johnson, or Larry Fitzgerald.

as you can see I don’t like anything about Randy Moss – he’s a PoS.

He took plays off, yet is still one of the greatest of all time.

Sorry

My favorite Randy Moss Moment

Seeing him gesture dropping his pants and wiping his ass on the goal post for a TD dance. He is obviously a quick witted man. The media tried to pass it off as sliding down a fire pole.

He was mocking Green Bay fans who do that to opposing team buses

it was actually awesome.

Surprised Tandler didn't list Donnie Fletcher - CB Boston College

as a later round choice for the redskins. He is one of my favorites after round 2.

I want Boykin
Earl?
I'm sure you're trolling me

but Brandon Boykin, CB out of UGA

It was more the potential excitment of Earl Boykins playing corner
I don't follow the NBA

so I’ll take your word for it that this would be somehow entertaining

Earl is my wife's favorite player

Four foot nothin, a hundred and nothin

Yeah

My wife likes him too. She would get mad at me when I would yell for the Wizards to get him outta the game.

I think giving Carriker a new contract is a must.

He’s a good player and I think, like offensive lines, they get better when they play together for a while. Defensive line was one of our bright spots last year, let’s keep it that way.

Agreed

Carriker knows this defense and knows what Haslett wants. He played better than expected last year, and should definitely be resigned. Hopefully they can get a fair contract done.

I think people forget this guy was a first rounder in 2007.

He has a lot of talent and he’s extremely strong. Haslett finally found a way to harness his ability and it paid off. I think he’s found a home here.

Probably because he hasn't played like one...
I think people forget this guy was a first rounder in 2007.

up until now that is

He's a late bloomer.
That's the problem though

A first round prospect is expected to start immediately and when he did, he under performed.

He was also playing for the Rams. Chris Long isn't having too much luck there either.

I wonder what he would do on say, the Eagles line, or even ours.

I think the Eagles line is a terrible point of comparison

All of their DEs stats are inflated purely due to the fact that their role in the wide 9 is to rush the passer. They don’t have the same responsibilities some other 4-3 Ends have. I think if you put just about any DE in the wide 9, they’d look better than they probably actually are – at least in the sack column.

What about the Giants?
What do you mean?
I don't know. I haven't had much caffeine this morning.
it doesn't matter how well he played 3-4 years ago

What matters is how he played for us last year. Resign him!

I agree. But to say we should resign him because he was a one time 1st rounder is ridiculous.

He hasn’t played like a first rounder until these past two years.

oh yeah, I agree
I'm just curious, but a lot of writers seem to think Dirty Thirty is amazing.

I’ve watched him since he was drafted and he has never impressed me. Am I the only one that thinks he’s a marginal player?

He has played out of position most of his career, but when they moved him to SS, he excelled.

I think he is a good player, just far to injury prone at this point. He is becoming too much like Bob Sanders in that regard…

I think he is an incredible enforcer

He’s a guy that opposing QBs can pick on knowing that he’ll let emotions get in the way (ie Vick destroying him on that opening drive TD pass to DeSean after 30 ran his mouth to DeSean in pregame).

However, he is also a feared hitter and watching him opening week vs *allas when he just murdered everything in his path (including some of our guys) forces me to get excited about him.

Sean Taylor was the only guy I've ever seen play that absolutely dissolved whatever was in his path.

Most importantly he didn’t miss. There is a time to whack somebody and a time to just bring him down. I would have thought he would have learned that from the Dean of Tackling London Fletcher.

Oh definitely

Sean Taylor never strapped up without being possessed. Rumor has it that TO still has nightmares.

But there’s no doubt that LaRon plays with a chip on his shoulder and other players know where he is.

you need to go back and watch Ronnie Lott and John Lynch then

both were better at strong safety than Landry as they were just as punishing but much better at tackling. They knew how to tackle and deliver a blow and not just give a big hit that might or might not take the guy down.

Yea and I don't even think landry hits all that hard

Not that he hasn’t had some big hits, though what football player hasn’t…even suisham decked a few guys heh.

To me landry is the kind of guy you would keep around for a modest salary which we all know he would never accept. Though watch him go be a monster on someone elses team and never be injured.

I will say this...

A lot of Sean Taylor’s hits would make us irate in today’s game because he would’ve been flagged so many times.

Not saying I think his hits were dirty or anywhere near, but ST would be considered a liability the way the NFL game is being played today.

Not a chance ST would be a ‘liability’. Would he catch some flags? probably. would he get nailed by questionable calls because of his reputation? yep. So I see where you are coming from, but his range and playmaking would more than make up for it.

"Liability" was a bad choice

I agree with your post.

If by Special Teams...

I hope you’re referring to when he blasted that punter in the Pro Bowl…my favorite Sean Taylor hit EVER!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNtmxsGY0pA

I disagree

I understand what you’re saying. He actually as considered a dirty player by some. But what people tend to forget is that he excelled at a lost art – wrapping. To me, what was amazing about his hits was not only did the ball carrier run start going the opposite direction immediately, but he also had little to no chance of getting away, because ST actually wrapped guys up, rather than going for the “duck your head and dive at the knees” tackle that Landry/Doughty/every other secondary player we’ve had, so often employ.

tackling is becoming a lost art in the NFL

players are so focused on making a ESPN highlight that they ignore the fundamentals.

Free agents from the top 50

Here are the names that pop to me.

4. Carl Nicks, G-The big name on O line this year, we need to beef up there.
7. Evan Mathis, G- Guard plan B
9. Chris Myers, C- Texans center, knows the scheme in some respects.
11. Brandon Carr, CB- DB is an issue, but I would say get deeper before we cut people.
15. Dwayne Bowe, WR- An under rated WR, due to playing in a small market and an average team.
17. Jared Gaither, OT- I think we are going to continue our search for OT depth and a new RT, but we need a plan B for if Trent goes up in smoke
20. Brodrick Bunkley, DT- This team could use a run stopper like that, not sure where he would fit in our rotation though.
25. Ben Grubbs, G- Guard plan C, but he is local.
32. David Garrard, QB- under rated QB, I think he would be a better teacher for RG3, than Rex or Orton.

I definitely like your list

and the priorities.

i like Grubbs

as plan A at guard. I think he may be a little cheaper (although still cost a premium) than Nicks, and might be a bit of a better fit in the ZBS.

If Carriker leaves, I might also be tempted to go after a true NT and slide Cofield over to DE

I'm not tempted...

I am full fledged promoting a NT, someone like #36. Paul Soliai. His addition, along with JJ coming off injury, gives us one of the best DLs.

Jarvis Jenkins and Leonard Hankerson somehow made to the Redskins Ring of Fame before playing a down
ouch

just had a flahback to sterling palmer and tydus winans

Flat out dominated in preseason.

Jenkins was a beast. You could tell by his technique it was no fluke, either. I really think he’ll be a great addition this year.

Really? He dominated?

3 games, 1 tackle = domination?

He's the Uncle Rico of the D Line
Hey who was the

D tackle we cut outta training camp a few years ago that went on to play, pretty good I think, for the Eagles. I remember being pissed because we kept Wynn over him. Pretty sure he was a Miami product.

Antonio Dixon

Pissed me off too.

Yeah, that's him

Goddammit

Leonard Hankerson

Is every bit as good as Derrius Thompson.

come again?
gives us one of the best DLs.
I was inferring IF we signed Soliai...

having him anchor the NT position, with Coefield and Carriker as starters, with JJ, Bowen coming in on passing downs/breathers.

The line doesn’t need big names, just stout, solid play, to qualify for “one of the best”. It doesn’t have to BE the best, but that improvement opens more for the LBs.

Sorry to be picky

but you might want to look up the definition of infer.

if they are "stout and solid" they are not "one of the best"

those are mutually exclusive descriptions.

That offensive line isn’t seeing the front three of dominant 3-4 teams like Ravens or Jets.

Sorry.

absolutely, let's get a real anchor at NT
I don't like Mathis for us

and Gaither scares the hell out of me.

Gaither did play better for the Chiefs, but he scares me also.
Wasn't he awful for the Chiefs?

They cut him and San Diego picked him up. It is my understanding that he was better in San Diego.

Yea my bad, I was thinking it was the other way around...
I'd def. take him for like $2-3M/year
I agree about beefing up the line.

Although it seems counter-intuitive to the ZBS, every time we were in a tight formation for a goal line or 1st down conversion, I could see that we had zero chance of gaining an inch. I don’t know how many times I remember screaming for them to spread out the offense because they lacked the personnel and clearly looked outmatched before the snap.

You know, that is a very good point

The ZBS (with smaller, faster guys) may be great generally, but might not work on the goal line. Like, no “jumbo” package.

You realize

TW – 318
Hurt – 320
Monty – 310
Chester – 315
Brown – 313

This is a pretty good size line.

Thanks for the reference

Perhaps it is just lack of skill then.

Homer

He’s 100% correct on the manning thing. But my guy tells me that we really are interested in manning and that pisses me off. We’ll see, but I just have a bad feeling about it.

My GUT tells me

I don’t have a “guy” on the inside…or outside

Unlike "the fan" (on yahoo) and a few others, I like reading the different opinions

about whether or not to go after Peyton Manning. Everybody has a different angle. But I thought Homer McFanboy’s article on it was worthless. He brought up that old crap about the Skins going after over-priced big names, aging veterans, etc. I could argue that whole idea – if you want to keep beating on Vinny Cerrato, go right ahead – but one point is obvious – it has nothing to do with whether or not to get Peyton. A terrible decision guide.
