Update: Jim Irsay
@JimIrsay (via Twitter)
"Peyton has not passed our physical nor has he been cleared to play for The Indianapolis Colts. Team statement coming on Friday."
Let the off-season quarterback carousel begin! ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that two doctors have officially medically cleared Peyton Manning to play. Both Dr. Robert Watkins, who performed the neck surgery, and the Indianapolis Colts team neurosurgeon have given Manning the OK to resume his NFL career.
They have said it's no longer a safety matter and just a performance issue. Manning still needs to rebuild the muscles in his arm, but ESPN sources say that Manning is healthy enough to play this Sunday if he needed to. Check out the full ESPN article here.
Manning still has to continue rehabbing in order to get his arm strength back up to the standard he's used to, but it sounds like Manning is going to be healthy and will play next season.
Manning is likely to be released by the Colts as he is due a $28 million roster bonus on March 8th, before the new league year officially begins. That means if the Colts want to trade him, they'd have to pay him the $28 million first.
The Redskins have been heavily linked with Manning since the end of the regular season. Things just got one step closer to Manning becoming an unrestricted free agent on the open market...

Anyone else tired of
seeing this 1/2 naked bastard?
ipitydafu - February 2, 2012
Actually
Just makes me want to watch the show and see what it’s all about… I’ve been loving my co-workers walk by with weird looks on their face
travisjh86 - February 2, 2012
haha, got weird looks at school today myself
irishgoon - February 2, 2012
Please make this stop.
I can’t take it, my mental stability is at stake.

thats dan on april 27th
future is now - February 2, 2012
Has a doctor ever said that if Peyton plays again his life will be in jeopardy? A la Steve Young/Troy Aikman.
2up2down - February 2, 2012
I doubt he would have been cleared medically
if a doctor had said that to him.
UkRedskin - February 2, 2012
Its just something I was wondering. Always felt the as long as it healed properly he would be fine. That it wasn’t as serious as people were making it out to be.
2up2down - February 2, 2012
It was still relatively serious
Ive had a neck injury before, you’d be surprised how many things effect your neck. Standing, sitting, walking…
Ronnie Adkins - February 2, 2012
Eh not trying to downplay the injury. Its just so many different reports were a bit hyperbole, read one that said he could be a paraplegic.
2up2down - February 2, 2012
Oh shit!
travisjh86 - February 2, 2012
Well, that's good for the one of the 30 other teams that may land Peyton Manning
I know that one team doesn’t want him (Colts) and one team doesn’t need him (Redskins), so let the rest of the NFL fight over him.
The Agent C 83 - February 2, 2012
Snyder just sent this to Manning

wow that's old school dude.......love it
irishgoon - February 2, 2012
Best case scenario for the Redskins
is Peyton Manning signs with the Dolphins, and Matt Flynn signs with the Browns, and RG3 falls into our laps @6 would be a great thing if that happened.
Highspeed30 - February 2, 2012
That would be nice!
UkRedskin - February 2, 2012
I think you missed this part UK
From PFT:
"It’s not a safety issue; it’s a performance issue," one source said.
So Manning is not "back." This may not even qualify is particularly new information. He doesn’t know yet when or if his arm will perform at an acceptable level. One source told Mort it could take until May. Left unsaid is that it might not happen at all.
The nerve has been the issue all along. Now is neck won’t break, but it’s the nerve that will and has always dictated his “career” readiness, which hasn’t changed.

+1
The Agent C 83 - February 2, 2012
I didn't miss all of that
I said there he needs to continue rehabbing to rebuild the arm strength, only thing I missed was that it could take until May.
UkRedskin - February 2, 2012
But it's not about arm strenght. It's about nerve regeneration.
Which there is no timetable for
Copious 1 - February 2, 2012
Ah right, I see what you're saying.
UkRedskin - February 2, 2012
AWESOME OLD NEWS!
Let’s sign Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, and Jeff Saturday…Let’s bring the 2001 Colts to DC!
Diesel44 - February 2, 2012
Or just the 2009 Colts.
Which made it to the super bowl that year, to be fair. (Just to be clear, I’m not in favor or signing Manning, just saying)
UkRedskin - February 2, 2012
Sign Peyton, Dwayne Bowe and draft Trent Richardson

So, what does Vegas say?
Is there an odds line that Manning ends up in Washington?
What would you say? 3:1, 8:1?
CarverM - February 2, 2012
Vegas has us at 4 to 1 odds
1footballguru - February 2, 2012
No No No No No... No more end-of-his-career, I'm looking for 1 last payday, at best I'll be at 75% capacity, isn't-it-fun-that-the-Skins-will-have-the-2nd-oldest-starting-QB-in-the-NFL... oh forget it!
I’m tired of the Manning-to-Redskins talk :-(
1x1an - February 2, 2012
Please stop referring to Peyton
As if he is just some other free agent looking to score a final paycheck. He has all the money he could want and just wants more rings. He is also class personified.
Redwolf333 - February 3, 2012
Let's go get him right now.
Then sign a guard, draft a right tackle and draft some skilled players. He will make them better.
xxrdotxx - February 2, 2012
We are talking about Peyton F-ing Manning!!! Let's not forget that.
With Peyton the Colts were a perennial super bowl contender. Without him they go 2-14 enough said.
xxrdotxx - February 2, 2012
Would solve issue if nerve regeneates...
But it’ more complicate. Nevrves rege about 1" per month. two foot arm, too years-for the average person and depends on how damaged he nerve was. What if he did come back for few years and we cold afford him. Many draft choices and a couple free agents, groomng a youg backup behnd him. Just thougts. FA and draft unfortunaley will be over before we know his full health. But if we drafed a decent QB who is an improvement, maybe second round…who knows. Yea I too am getting tired of the QB issue. But, this is new news if not complete news.
seiberus - February 2, 2012
i think after peyton talks to his borther this weekend
eli will tell him you should play for the redskins they are a pretty good team. they beat us the superbowl champs twice this year. that way we can get friends and family together more often durring the season.
munson21502 - February 2, 2012
Welcome to Washington Peyton!
YES!
jmpalomo - February 2, 2012 via Android app
1. I do want us to kick the tires on Peyton and maybe take a run at him.
2. He better watch that strengthening program (be careful) if his tricep is not firing. Could easily be using other muscles to accomplish action and then screw something else up by overtraining.
TCO - February 3, 2012
eff it...too much thinking...I'm all in
George Allen would be getting Peyton, Wayne and Saturday, Sunday whatever his name is and just rocking it.
Coltskins to the Super Bowl! What a comeback story!!
TCO - February 3, 2012
As per the update...
This is going to get messy
mbedner - February 3, 2012
Oh how nasty the NFL can be.
The man that has led them to consistent playoff runs, 10 win seasons, a super bowl, and one appearance.
It is so shocking and surreal to me that the Indy is going to cut ties with him. Indy was really a terrible team overall through a lot of years with average defenses and subpar offensive line, and NEVER any consistent running game. You can positively say that Manning did lead this franchise.
xocnodnarb - February 3, 2012
I think the colts will win superbowl 47 with rex grossman at the helm! Take it or leave it, but it's a dead cert, trust me I am Robert Kempto
