The guards is a shallow pool
that’s why I was hoping we attacked FA. But it looks like Nicks may now be franchised, if the Brees deal get done in the next few weeks(which looks possible). I still say Grubbs hits the market, because the Ravens have put priority on Rice, and just last year, gave Yanda a big contract. Actually, Grubbs could be the better fit for us at G.
If we could land Grubbs, and if what Steve thinks about Potter could hold true(that he lasts until the 3rd round), we could be in a good situation even if we traded up for RG3, and gave up our 2nd this year. We could get Grubbs via FA, and Potter or Adcock in the 3rd(although I still have my doubts Potter makes it to the 3rd). Criner could be ours in the 4th, and a developmental C, S or LB with our other 4th.
Problems Solved!
Tiller56 - February 21, 2012
Grubbs could definately become available
With Ray Rice allegedly wanting AP money and Flacco wanting top 5 QB money there isn’t gonna be a lot left to go around. Of course I am sure these are just the agents starting points.
PAinfUL - February 21, 2012
Flacco thinks he's worth top 5 QB money
Bwahahahahaha,
dude, consistently put up top 5 QB performances and then you’ll get your top 5 QB money. RBased on your least couple of years you’re only worth top 15-20 money. Where would you be without Rice?
aFan4Life - February 21, 2012
I think Potter is 4-5 rd prospect according to a few scouting sites
I think he may go in the 3rd or 4th rd pick.
Highspeed30 - February 21, 2012
Potter is a legit prospect
who IMO, fits our scheme to a tee
Tiller56 - February 21, 2012
Nick is (via Schefter) looking for more than what Evans signed for.
I’d pass, no OG is worth more than 56 mil.
Diesel44 - February 21, 2012
*Nicks of course
Diesel44 - February 21, 2012
Did anyone see sports center last night
on Trent Richardson training at the Elite Athletes facility? Damn, I knew he was strong, but that shit was ridiculous. He very well may break the record for 225 for RB’s. I expect 30+ reps – anyone want the under?
Tiller56 - February 21, 2012
Trent Richardson is a beast
He runs with a lot of power, i seen a piece on him before this college season saying how when he was as freshman at Alabama that he was breaking all kinds of strength records right out of high school
Highspeed30 - February 21, 2012
I couldn't stop laughing when I heard that his college coaches wouldn't let him bench over 460
Wish I could say I had that problem!
Ohio Redskins - February 21, 2012
Trent Richardson is a horse.
If we end up drafting him, because RG3 is gone I won’t be upset.
iH8dallas - February 21, 2012
He was reping 150lb dumbells
that’s sick
Tiller56 - February 21, 2012
I don't see
Shanny taking a RB in the first round, but you never know. I think they would have to spin Helu into another draft pick.
CJHutch - February 21, 2012
It isn't happening
In his book with Schefty he says that RB isn’t worth taking in the first round.
Jeff Bernard - February 21, 2012
I'm OK with that
Although, to this day, I’d rather have Adrian Peterson over Laron Landry.
CJHutch - February 21, 2012
absolutely
and to me it depends on the RB. Would you draft Walter Payton in the 1st round? I would.
aFan4Life - February 21, 2012
but that was also different
at the time we ran a tougher running system, with the ZBS the guys can be highly successful if they have good vision and cutback ability.
That is exactly why Foster is so dominant, and what the focus needs to be for the Skins. As great as AP and Richardson are, they are almost a waste in our system.
Steve Shoup - February 21, 2012
almost but not quite
I wouldn’t draft him for this team because we have bigger needs but if we weren’t hurting in so many other places I’d take him. Having someone who can go all the way at any given time creates a lot of problems for defenses so it would also help out our passing game (assuming the defense would put 8 guys in the box).
aFan4Life - February 21, 2012
Yes, we have
MUCH bigger needs. And I don’t want us to draft Richardson, nor do I think we will. But I wouldn’t go so far as to say he’d be a “waste” in our system.
Having a dominant back could never be a waste. At some point, no matter what the system, he’s gonna encounter guys who want to tackle him. I think it’s more accurate to say he’d be a luxury we don’t need.
CJHutch - February 21, 2012
i'm not saying
he’d be ‘a waste’ in our system in the sense that he wouldn’t be successful. I think Richardson will be 1,200 yard back in any system, but his skill set doesn’t mesh as well with our system. It’s like bringing in Tom Brady for Shanny’s system, could he be succesful? Of course, hes a great QB. But the system doesn’t fit all of his strengths so you are kinda ‘wasting’ talent. Instead of being a top 3 QB, he might only be the 5th or 7th best QB running Shanny’s system.
Then the other aspect I was trying to convey is that since the effectiveness of this system is predicated so much on vision and cutting ability, the Redskins can more easily find that level of production in a cheaper form.
Steve Shoup - February 22, 2012
i would rather have nearly anyone from that draft than Laron Landry.
Landry hasn’t done jack in this league except show everyone how big his guns are. It kind of ruins your rep as a tough guy in the league when you get trucked by Jacobs.
Jeff Bernard - February 21, 2012
there were 10 Pro Bowlers taken in the 1st round after Landry.
Jeff Bernard - February 21, 2012
Yep
He wasn’t even the best SAFETY taken. I wanted AP, but even Joe Staley woulda been nice.
CJHutch - February 21, 2012
In all fairness to our scouts
Landry was a heck of a college prospect at LSU. I know hindsight is 20/20, but I think if the same situation presented itself over again, Landry could be the guy. He was so fast and athletic. Unfortunately, the death of Sean Taylor prompted the move to FS, and that move proved to be a poor one, and stunted his growth some. Also the injuries haven’t helped.
I know it’s not fair to say, but If the taylor tradgedy had never happened, we all may be looking at Landry in a different light.
Tiller56 - February 22, 2012
All true
And I got on board with the Landry pick once it was made, even though he wasn’t MY first (or second, or third) choice. And yes, he never should’ve been moved to FS. But, in the end, I think the blame for him not living up to expectations falls squarely on HIS shoulders. HE chose to skip the offseason workouts which, in the least, shows he doesn’t have what it takes to be a team leader. He also chose to spend more time perfecting his physique than perfecting his craft. And, lastly (until I think of something else at least), HE’S the one who is more worried about delivering the “Sportcenter hit” than actually tackling (see: wrapping up) a guy.
Oh yeah, I knew I was forgetting something. HE also is the one who chooses to look like an idiot by celebrating bringing a guy down after he just gave up a twenty yard gain.
CJHutch - February 22, 2012
hey we should be happy it wasn't a 21 yard gain!
Steve Shoup - February 22, 2012
Revis...god why didn't we take him
Steve Shoup - February 22, 2012
haha nope
Steve Shoup - February 21, 2012
I think Bowe will end up getting the Franchise tag
with the Routt signing
Highspeed30 - February 21, 2012
Yes
That’s what it looks like now; which really sucks.
Colston is still an option though. I just don’t think he’s as big a threat as Bowe
Tiller56 - February 21, 2012
We're signing Manningham in free agency.
iH8dallas - February 21, 2012
Then we're still without a true #1
Tiller56 - February 21, 2012
I'm not so much concerned about having a "1" receiver.
I would much rather the team have three or four good receivers, like Green Bay and New Orleans.
iH8dallas - February 21, 2012
GB and NO all have #1's though
Jennings is one of the leagues best
Tiller56 - February 21, 2012
I think Hankerson is going to develop into a very good receiver.
iH8dallas - February 21, 2012
I would like to sign a FA WR but it dont have to be a big name guy
I like the depth in this draft and it depends on what the teams plans at QB are to what kinda WR i would be looking to get. If i was thinking about bringing in a veteran guy like Matt Flynn, Manning, Orton or somebody like that to be my starter for the whole season (which i am not in favor of) then i would look to get a guy like Colston, Bowe or VJax.
But if RG3 is going to be my QB i would rather sign a guy like Meachum, Stevie Johnson. and then draft a WR in the 3rd Rd i love the WR depth in this draft get a big target that has all around WR skills, and if i could get a deep threat WR in the draft as well. to go along with Hankerson, Paul.
Highspeed30 - February 21, 2012
If Stevie Johnson is not tagged
then he’d be a sure target of mine, but I have a feeling that he’ll get tagged or get a long-term deal as crunch time bears down on us.
Tiller56 - February 21, 2012
on the positive side
Carr will likely be available but at a high price.
aFan4Life - February 21, 2012
Not worth it IMO
we have other more pressing needs.
I’d actually rather see Myers added before Carr
Tiller56 - February 21, 2012
I agree
and I think Carr is going to want too much $ anyway
aFan4Life - February 21, 2012
Isn't it funny how everyone was wanting to depend so much on all of these free agents that were going to be available...now it looks like Nicks is off the market, and Bowe....
StephanHart - February 21, 2012
Nicks is not off the market yet............This from PFT
The Saints need to get Brees locked up before the 5th of march. If not, they’ll be forced to use the Franchise Tag on him. If this happens, no way the saints can afford 2 guards(Evans and Nicks), at almost 20 million per year.
Tiller56 - February 21, 2012
which means they will try to trade Nicks for at least a 1st round pick
Steve Shoup - February 22, 2012
I'm curious.
Stanford Routt was signed yesterday, but free agency doesn’t begin until March 13. Is this because he was released?
iH8dallas - February 21, 2012
Yes
I thought the exact same thing when I saw he had signed
Ohio Redskins - February 21, 2012
Yes
If your released, you go through waivers, then can become a FA as soon as you clear them.
Tiller56 - February 21, 2012
so nobody claimed him? weird
smutsboy1 - February 21, 2012
I'm not sure what his contract was like, but it could be no one wanted to pick up his contract, wanted to negotiate a new deal instead
StephanHart - February 21, 2012
He was due a bonus if I'm not mistaken
so the team that claimed him would have had to pay that bonus
Tiller56 - February 21, 2012
i'm pretty sure he didn't have to go through Waivers given how long he's been in the league
if I’m not mistaken, the waiver period only affects players with less than 5 years (might be 4) of service time for the entire season. Veteran players only have to go on waivers if they are cut after the trade deadline (while the season is still going on). Its done so vets can pick their new team. Guys like Orton and McNabb had to go through waivers b/c it was still during the season and after the trade deadline.
Steve Shoup - February 22, 2012
He was cut though b/c he had a bonus coming due
Steve Shoup - February 22, 2012
Tandler's article on Centers
Tandler must be smoking crack if he thinks Konz will last to the 2nd or 3rd(at the very worst, I could see early 2nd, and thta’s if he completely shits the bed at the combine)

I didn't know there was a bed test at the combine
I bet that’s really boring to watch!

I have been giving Laroning a try today
This morning I was walking into the gas station to get some coffee and I tripped on the curb immediately taking two or three awkward steps towards the door trying to regain my composure. As soon as I was able to stand up straight I turned around unleashed the gun show first looking down at the curb then out into the parking lot. Unfortunately there was only one person filling up and he was concentrating on the task at hand. Perhaps I should have let out a growl.
I don’t know what has gotten into me today. In one of those goofy moods I guess.

Still cracking up! hahahahaha

I don't know.
“his own fan blog” could simply mean that he has a place where he likes to hang out and discuss Redskins, and they even got the vernacular (“fan post”) right.
I didn’t read the sentence as necessarily implying that Rodskins owns this website, although I can certainly see how others would read it that way. NFL.com could have worded it better, but I don’t think they were being lazy or dishonest. Just my two cents.
