The teams salivating for a shot at acquiring Indianapolis QB Peyton Manning got the answer to their prayers yesterday. Two doctors, one being the last surgeon to operate on him, have cleared Peyton to play. Teams like the Jets, Browns, Dolphins, and of course, the Redskins all have quarterback situations. I can guarantee the topic has come up more than once in each of their front offices.
Many news sources and insiders believe that bringing in Peyton to any squad would involve some sort of package deal. One of those scenarios involves Jeff Saturday. I would like to try my rapping skills here: Stay away Saturday.
How was that?
I wouldn't mind Peyton in Washington, the details of which, I will get into a little. That's not the point of this. The point is, I don't want Saturday. Not because he's old (late 30's), or because he plays bad (which actually, he doesn't), but because of continuity.
Read on after the jump...

I am definitely not against Peyton in Washington, given he is 100% and WANTS to be here. I don't see how either of those is 100% guaranteed, so we will see how that pans out.
Jeff Saturday, however, I can definitely say I don't want.
His play speaks for itself, 13 years with Peyton Manning's hands in his crotch is actually an accomplishment. Seriously, Saturday has been Peyton's reliable bodyguard for a long time and probably has a few good seasons left in him. A few.
But the Redskins have this terrible habit of ditching their solid players in hopes of new (or old) shiny ones. Will Montgomery has been a solid center, and I don't believe we should count him out. If we start removing elements of the Redskins team that are established (The line as a whole isn't, but Montgomery should be) it sends a bad message to the players: "We want to bring in Peyton, but we have to bring _____ and _____ and _____ too, so even though you guys work your asses off..."
Saturday is a pro-bowl center. He's got experience that any team would want, and is one of the Colts' most reliable players (has only missed 6 games since 2000). But we have been bitten by this snake before. It's time to stop walking down that path.
Continuity: The unbroken and consistent existence or operation of something over a period of time.
I have an equation for you.
Redskins + Saturday - Mongomery ≠ Continuity

So "IF"
the organization bring in Manning will it just be for a 2 yr deal, and then go after RG3. Then he can benefit from Manning’s tutelage for a maximum of just 2yrs?!
I’m content with that.
Big Spoon - February 3, 2012
No
The Redskins wouldn’t take two large chances like that. Drafting up for RGIII and signing a potential mine-field with Peyton.
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Holy crap man! Mortgage our future and sign a 36 year old QB? WOOOOOOO
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
This gives me a headache
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
I agree. This is unnaturally disturbing...
mbedner - February 3, 2012
Its pretty much a visualization of every QB thread on HH
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Now that has zazz
Bullet Nation in Exile - February 3, 2012
I would only like Peyton if we got him in FA for a reasonably priced deal
And then drafted Tannehill (or someone) to sit and learn for two or three years
mbedner - February 3, 2012
The words Peyton and Resonably Priced
are not going to be in the same sentence. Probably ever again.
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Reasonably priced as in less than $28 million for a rickety old guy
No matter where he solicits his services, no one is going to out bid Irsay after the surgery Manning went through. He’ll make millions, but probably in the teens and not the twenties…
mbedner - February 3, 2012
Redskins
free agents and the term reasonably priced are NEVER ina sentence. We have overpaid for countless free agent bust"s.THUIS is the 1 free agent we should break the bank for, not mortgage the future i.e losing draft picks and whatnot, but pay the man his 20 mill a yrs cause we NEED him. Manning for 3 years is a LOCK for a atleast 1 ring. Look at Indy’s defense they have had all those yrs , horrible..Skins d has been significantly better than them yr in and out with exception of 2 yrs ago when they finished 30th.
Ronnie Miller - February 3, 2012
Thye don't hand ring out for Off Season Champs.
brettpedigo - February 3, 2012
*rings
brettpedigo - February 3, 2012
The good thing is
the Redskins are under the Cap, and have money to “play” with
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
mbedner - exactly my thoughts - get Peyton only if reasonable priced,
he wants to come here, the Shanahans think they can work with him, and they draft a really promising young QB as his successor – Tannehill, Foles, Weeden, or whoever Shanahan likes.
Donnio1234 - February 3, 2012
yeah but Peyton is not going to be reasonably priced
aFan4Life - February 3, 2012
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Who let that drunk fan in the locker room?
mbedner - February 3, 2012
This one was funnier
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
That's too bad. I thought I was really on to something with the second line...
mbedner - February 3, 2012
Behold: The body of a professional athlete.
What an Adonis. His pecs are sublime and those abs were chiseled by the Gods themselves.
mbedner - February 3, 2012
Continuity is important
but Monty is just not a very good football player. Saturday would be an upgrade and we could still draft a Molk, who could then replace him in a year or two.
Redskin44 - February 3, 2012
How could anyone vote not to bring in Peyton?
That blows my mind.
xocnodnarb - February 3, 2012
I did... does that BLOW YOUR MIND!?!?!
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
You just JFKed him...
too soon?
mbedner - February 3, 2012
These QB threads blow my mind.
HogHunter - February 3, 2012
Hahahaha. I can't get through that movie without laughing hysterically.
mbedner - February 3, 2012
Oh you're so comical Parks.
xocnodnarb - February 3, 2012
Is Brett Favre your backup plan?
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Don't worry,
Snyder’s got him on speed dial
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Quarterback plans for 2012
Plan A) Peyton Manning
Plan B) Brett Favre
Plan C) Getting DNA off of Sammy Baugh and creating Baugh 2.0
Plan D) A Pepsi machine, he performed well in the combine
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Baugh 2.0 might be good, though it might take a few years.
BillWard - February 3, 2012
I heard the Pepsi machine had great stats...
and performed exceptionally well at the combine…
jgibbsfan1 - February 3, 2012
But the Pepsi machine's delivery is too low.
You always have to go low to catch it.
I really think Pepsi machine needs to convert to OL (Center, to be exact).
BillWard - February 3, 2012
Here's the thing, as a Redskins fan that has been through 20 years of crappy of football...
would you rather:
A) Sign Peyton Manning, have a two year Super Bowl window (at best)?
or
B) Continue to rebuild the right way and build a winner that could sustain success over an extended period of time?
Have you not seen this story before?
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Stop bringing logic into QB discussions.
HogHunter - February 3, 2012
My bad guys...
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
agreed, I'd rather keep building the right way
the only way I’d want Peyton is if he doesn’t break the bank AND he mentors the QB we draft this year.
aFan4Life - February 3, 2012
Beause I dont think that Washington should be the Boneyard
He can go retire somewhere else. No more old ass FA. IDC who they are.
ipitydafu - February 3, 2012
WTF?
Not sure how that double posted
ipitydafu - February 3, 2012
How freaking stupid
Just to entertain the thought of bringing someones else garbage to our team ? He might be a decent QB but to bring him here is about the stupiest thing this team could ever do . If we brought him here 5 years ago i say ok but bring him here after a neck problem and only if we are lucky for 2 or 3 years , this would screw this team up for years to come . If dan synder allows this stupidity to happen he should sell this team to someone who cares about this team .
Rebuild from the draft not by getting old garbage from other teams to come here and freakin retire .
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
Well
He’s pretty much the best quarterback of our generation… So there’s that…
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Yea the 2000s generation, it's the 2010s now...
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Sorry tom bradys the best not peyton
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
False...
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
so then who you think is
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
Do you really need to ask that? Peyton Manning, is there a third QB I don't know about?
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Dicks Enormous
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Ron Mexico was a special talent also.
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
peyton
How many super bowls has peyton won ?
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
How man did Dan Marino win? I was under the impression football was a team sport.
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
false Dan Fouts and Fran Tarkenton have no business in the HOF. Trent Dilfer, Mark Rypien, Jeff Hostetler, Phil Simms, Jim Plunkett etc.
are all far superior QB’s.
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
I hope you're kidding...
Fouts was the Pre-Marino and Tark is the measuring stick to all running QBs…
jgibbsfan1 - February 3, 2012
oh completely kidding
i think basing a QB’s greatness on SB’s or SB victories is extremely short-sided. Especially in years past when there was no free agency.
Super Bowls are pretty much always won by the best overall team (sure there are some major upsets to that balance). Sometimes it might be because the QB difference, but other times it can be a host of other factors (Adam Vinatari winning Brady’s first two SB’s)
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
wheh!!!!
that was a close call…
jgibbsfan1 - February 3, 2012
no doubt, I thought he had lost his mind
aFan4Life - February 3, 2012
really damn i guess i need to label things more when i'm being sarcastic
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
Someone please post that meme of Petyon and Brady shaking hands
and Petyon says something like ‘your team went 11-5 when you were injured. Mine went 2-14.’ That should explain it really…
mbedner - February 3, 2012
uncle rico....
if we’d had just put him in….we would have won the superbowl..I bet he could throw that ball over them mountains
jkitts84 - February 3, 2012 via Android app
If
Tom brady wins this super bowl he will be tied with terry bradshaw and joe montana for most super bowl wins.
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
So Terry Bradshaw is a better QB then Peyton Manning from your formula?
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
*than
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Again
How many super bowls does peyton have compared to terry bradshaw , joe montana , and tom brady ?
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
WOW
Terry Bradshaw>Peyton Manning
HogHunter - February 3, 2012
Count the RINGS not that hard to figure out.
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
So if I understand your logic:
Trent Dilfer = Peyton Manning?
mbedner - February 3, 2012
I GUESS HE IS JUST AVERAGE AT BEST
Only 1 ring , hell his own brother if he wins this super bowl would be better than peyton .
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
I can't believe you just said that.
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Look at the Giants Defense throughout the years, looks at the Giants runningback stable, look at the Giants top 5 WR core
Peyton has never really had any of those things.
mbedner - February 3, 2012
corp*
mbedner - February 3, 2012
Your logic is solid.
I can’t believe I never thought of it like that before.
HogHunter - February 3, 2012
+1
man if Rex Grossman would’ve pulled off the SB win in ’07 then:
Grossman > Manning
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Bradshaw
definitely carried the Steelers to those Championships.
HogHunter - February 3, 2012
With no supporting cast what so ever
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
haha
you know what they say QB’s win championships…no wait that’s wrong
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
Once again... is Terry Bradshaw a better quarterback than Peyton Manning?
Is Roethlisberger better than Manning?
Is Plunkett better than Manning?
Griese?
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
If you have 1 ring
Then peyton has not shown much at all , if you win it once then your not in the same playing field as terry or joe or tom . The rings is what counts .
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
So football isn't a team sport? And Dan Marino was a terrible quarterback?
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Yeah! If Dan Marino was so bad, why was he in Ace Ventura?
Answer that one, Washingtonwin…
mbedner - February 3, 2012
And why would NurtiSystem choose him as a sponsor? hmmmmmmmm....
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Because they wanted a pair of Isotoner gloves?
BillWard - February 3, 2012
Or perhaps they were big fans of Ray Finkle and are waiting for the perfect time to strike Marino
mbedner - February 3, 2012
Do you ever answer questions?
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Absoutely not!
I’ve followed pro football since the early 50’s and Peyton is the best I’ve ever seen. The rest of the team is a result of management and coaches.
Dipper - February 3, 2012
I think the arguement can be made that Brady is better w/o bringing in SB rings
His numbers are close to Peyton’s and I believe Brady can/will surpassed Peyton in many of those categories. Either way, you’re still talking about two of the top 10 qb’s of all time.
mkjo - February 3, 2012
Career Stats
QB Rating: Manning-94.9 Brady-96.4
TD’s: M-399, B-300
INT’s: M-198, B-99
Comp %: M-64.9 B-63.8
Yrs: M-13, B 12
mkjo - February 3, 2012
actually, since Manning just lost a whole season...
he should be counted as 12 yrs…
Given that, consider -
399 > 300
But…
99 < 198
Coin flip…
jgibbsfan1 - February 3, 2012
well to that point
Brady played only 1 game in 2008 so Peyton still has 1 year more than him
prc805 - February 3, 2012
who knows...
Brady might play a year throwing for 99 TDs and 99 Ints, which would place them in a tie…
jgibbsfan1 - February 3, 2012
peyton's 13 year's does not include this year.
Brady’s 12 includes the two seasons he only played in one game, 2000 and 2008.
mkjo - February 3, 2012
So we're comparing 13 year career and 10 year
mkjo - February 3, 2012
another factor that usually gets overlooked is sacks
Manning has been sacked just 3.1% of his dropbacks, Brady 4.9%, while both are good numbers (Manning’s is the 2nd highest since sacks were recorded) and both have had good to great offensive lines in front of them (Brady has easily had better lines), that is a pretty significant difference.
Furthermore fumbles are another factor in Peyton’s favor. Brady has fumbled the ball 78 times in about 6,000 times touching the ball (5,600 dropbacks, nearly 400 rushes), Peyton has just 57 fumbles in about 7,800 touches (7,440 dropbacks, 350 rushes)
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
Manning is well behind though
in pct% of passes completed while sleeping with a hot model
Redskin44 - February 3, 2012
Ah, the famous "Completion of Passes leading to a Score" percentage.
The question is, how do you know?
I mean, didn’t Magic Johnson once boast that he’d been with over 10K?
BillWard - February 3, 2012
Or was that Wilt the stilt?
mkjo - February 3, 2012
Brady>Manning
Why can’t we sign Peyton and continue to rebuild the right way?? He would allow us to be competitive during the rebuild. Last time this post was up UK was saying if we sign Peyton than we have to get Saturday and Wayne with it so this post throws that out the window. So why can’t we do both??
Chillz - February 3, 2012
That's how UK felt
This is how I feel. We aren’t all the same guy with different logons.
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Why can't we have our cake and eat it to?
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
This year highlighted that Manning has no intention of mentoring young QBs
I would gladly take him and draft Tannehill if he showed a willingness to help mentor him over the next few years.
PJ_21 - February 3, 2012
I'm with you Ronnie
Chillz - February 3, 2012
Tom brady going to his 5th super bowl
What has peyton manning done ? WOW 1 super bowl .
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
1+1 = 2
HogHunter - February 3, 2012
Take it easy
He hasn’t moved on from the alphabet.
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Because Tom Brady did everything
Tom Brady got injured and his team was still competitive. That means there is a lot of talent around him.
Peyton Manning went down and the Colts stunk. That means he makes him players better. Peyton > Brady any day, any time.
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
The Pats were good b/c Matt Cassel
He left NE and led a lesser KC team to the playoffs as well. He threw 27 tds to 7 ints and made the Pro Bowl, so it’s not like Curtis Painter/Dan Orvlasky(who also was on the 0-16 team)/Kerry Collins led them to that record. If the Colts had anything resembling a decent Qb they they could’ve won more games. That argument is false.
Chillz - February 3, 2012
He's been to two
Chillz - February 3, 2012
Peyton is a good QB
I will say that but as far as being better than tom brady your crazy . Tom brady has been to 5 super bowls in 10 years can peyton manning say that ?I think not , peyton manning was living off his dads name thats all .
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
Is Eli living off Peyton's name
or his dad’s name? I’m getting confused.
HogHunter - February 3, 2012
peyton is all hype unless he has the RINGS then he has not done anything except choked when it counts
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
You must be a huge Robert Horry fan.
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
haha comment of the day!
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
I'm sure he has been to five, but I only know of him playing in two
He will have definitely been to four by the end of the week — I’m pretty certain he was there (or will be there) for BOTH of Eli’s Superbowls.
mbedner - February 3, 2012
How many Super Bowls would the Patriots have gone to by now with Peyton Manning?
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
13 straight
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Your comparing aplles to oranges my friend
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
oops apples
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
Ah, the old aplles and oranges debate.
mbedner - February 3, 2012
haha
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
So you don't have an answer to yet another question?
Have you ever even had an apple or an orange to eat? They are both delicious.
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Matt Light has gone to just as many superbowls
Does that make him the best LT ever?
Nobetterthenbob - February 3, 2012
My point is
You will set this team back years if you brought in peyton manning . Sure waste 28 millions and sign him for a few years then watch him screw this team up and retire or get hurt before his contracts up
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
His contract doesn't transfer here buddy.
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
duh
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
Ok parks what is a TEAMS WHOLE GOAL?
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
iS IT GOING TO A SUPER BOWL
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
I thought it was to win a Super Bowl...
But by your standards Jim Kelly should be the greatest of all-time, right?
The key word here is team. If you want to argue the 2000s Pats are better than the 2000s Colts then you’re absolutely right. Or the 70s Steelers are better than the 2000s Colts, then right again! But we’re comparing individuals. An individual cannot win the Super Bowl by himself.
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
SUPER BOWL
HMMMMM tom brady 5 peyton how many ?
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
2. So once again Dan Marino is the worst quarterback in the history of the NFL, right?
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
I DONT SEE NO RINGS
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
So Grossman = Marino?
Answer my question please.
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
If you can not win the dance then your not worth 2 pennys .
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
So when Tom Brady lost the Superbowl in 2008, they dropped his salary to two pennies?
That hardly seems worth the risk…
mbedner - February 3, 2012
Its called TEAMS GOAL to get to the super bowl ?
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
OK
Wheres all the peyton fans to argue their points again ?
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
thought so as usual.
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
This IS a Redskins Blog
Just making sure you’re aware.
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
No need to argue, you lose the argument talking to yourself.
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
It's hard to argue with your logic.
Were you on the debate team?
HogHunter - February 3, 2012
Not only was he on the debate team, but he was a five time spelling bee champion, too
mbedner - February 3, 2012
This has to stop.
I can’t stress enough the fact that even I’d he’s healthy we won’t sign him.
I still stick by my guns that we trade up for RG3.
iH8dallas - February 3, 2012 via mobile
Thank you
No peyton , we need to draft up and get RG3 period and not get peyton .
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
Wait, RG3 doesn't have any rings...
Are you sure you want to do that?
mbedner - February 3, 2012
DUH
Try rebuilding from the draft and maybe we could get another ring for this team .
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
Trading 3-6 picks for 1 player
is rebuilding through the draft?
HogHunter - February 3, 2012
It would cost
Way less signing RG3 at the rookie pay scale verses paying manning a shit load .
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
RG3 at #2 is going to be $20+ mil in guaranteed money
Financials aren’t the question
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
i don't know manure costs are skyrocketing
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
It would probably more cost efficient to save the picks and sign manning
If you give away picks for RG3, you can’t draft as many cheap rookies. Therefore, you’d have to rely on high priced FA which might, in turn, cost more money…
mbedner - February 3, 2012
+1
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
PARKS
Its all about the RING and even though marino might be good he never got a RING , so if you can not win it all then your not that good .
washingtonwin - February 3, 2012
I wish you would end some of your posts with "GOSH!"
That would make it even more enjoyable to read your posts with Napoleon Dynamite’s voice.
BurgundyEpidermis - February 3, 2012 via mobile

Be realistic now.. Jim McMahon is better than Dan Marino?? Trent Dilfer is better than Dan Marino?? But I’m with you on Brady better than Manning. Brady could be the best ever!
Chillz - February 3, 2012
GOOD???
I have seen both Dan Marino and Tom Brady for their entire careers… and Dan Marino is a much better pure pocket passer, no contest
Skins Fan '77 - February 3, 2012
Reply failure
Skins Fan '77 - February 3, 2012
Dan Fouts is a better QBn than McMahon and so is Warren Moon
A lot of QBs could have won a SB with that Bears defense.
SB wins is NOT a good measuring stick for how good a QB is, PERIOD.
aFan4Life - February 3, 2012
exactly
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012

I don’t see Donkey ears on you, Parks!
Personally, I would rate Peyton Manning as the greatest QB of all time. Brady is in the conversation, but he’s not even (quite) #2 as far as I’m concerned. He is top ten, without question, however. But folks are leaving out guys like Jonny Unitas, Bart Starr, Y.A. Tittle, Slingin Sammy Baugh, etc. These others (well, probably not Starr) also have some ability to claim “Greatest QB” as part of the title, and all are deserving of mention. We have been extremely lucky to have seen two of the all time greatest QBs playing simulateneously for this decade… that’s a rarity, and it’ll get rarer. Can’t we just agree that we have a 1a and 1b at this time?
BillWard - February 3, 2012
+1 for everything Bill, I may be an ass but I'm generous with my plus ones.
Don’t you have an AARP meeting and the early bird special at Rudy’s to hit?
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Actually, I was thinking of going to Mary's, to be honest.
Great local food, not as pricy as Rudy Inlet stuff. Mary’s is off Virginia Beach Blvd, about three blocks from the beach.
And no AARP meetings today, Matlock is on.
BillWard - February 3, 2012
Jim McMahon is better than Dan Marino?? Lol
Chillz - February 3, 2012
Yeah so… back to the post, and Saturday
I think he is a bit too old to be worth bringing in and I agree with Ronnie about continuity.
The Redskins really need to think through their player acquisitions more effectively.
(I still think the culture of Dan Snyder is what is screwing up this franchise…)
Skins Fan '77 - February 3, 2012
The plusses and minuses of bringing in Manning (assuming he is healthy)
Plusses
• Redskins will have an elite QB for the next 2 to 5 years.
• Leadership for the young guys
• Allows Redskins to keep all draft picks
• Can focus on rebuilding OL, WR, DB, and ILB via the draft this year
• The skins may be able to be more strategic and opportunistic next year or the year after in drafting his replacement
Minuses
• Durability, can he keep playing at an elite level for at least 2 years. Can he remain healthy?
• Cost, cap implications?
• Will we need to bring in Saturday, Wayne etc? Is that a good or bad thing?
• Can he get along with Shanny & son?
Redskin44 - February 3, 2012
What I like about bringing in Manning
Is you aren’t mortgaging your future, you’re actually securing it. Yes, we might only get a few good years, but his play could keep the Redskins competitive while they finish rebuilding the rest of the team, to draft a franchise face down the road.
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Im agree with you more and more
What would be interesting to see is what would his contract look like. 5 yrs/$85 mil. More? how much guaranteed? Also, if he insists on bringing in Wayne and Saturday, what do their contracts look like?
Redskin44 - February 3, 2012
By then you (theoretically) would have weapons
for him (a rookie in, say, 2015) to use. Established, experienced players for him to thrive on.
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Yep
Makes it very appealing. Rebuild the line this year, maybe add a WR and CB in the Draft as well. and he will get those young to play
Redskin44 - February 3, 2012
I would still like to see a QB taken in the second round.
mbedner - February 3, 2012
Maybe not the second.
Cousins in the 3rd or 4th. Would be a possibility
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
I really have my mind set on Tannehill.
I suspect he will be there in the early second round.
mbedner - February 3, 2012
I’m fine with that, but at least we dont have to be desperate. If there is a guy guy shanny like then fine, but we dont have to reach for a guy.
Redskin44 - February 3, 2012
Redskin44 - good summary of the issues, the pros and cons
I know one fan, in an article citing examples, said Peyton is not a good mentor – does not help develop his backups. But I don’t know if that is true. Drafting Tannehill, Foles, etc would solve the durability problem (by having a good backup, increasingly ready to go the longer Peyton lasts). Keeping those draft picks is a big plus, the same plus as getting Flynn or some other veteran FA. I think it comes down to money – how much we want him.
Donnio1234 - February 3, 2012
I've heard that as well
but I would not really expect him to mentor. But that extra year or two would still allow a rookie to develop and not be forced into action. I dont know if Favre was the best mentor to Rodgers.
Redskin44 - February 3, 2012
Redskins - yeah, might be a non-issue
Donnio1234 - February 3, 2012
the proof is in the pudding.
Painter was TERRIBLE!!!!!!!
brettpedigo - February 3, 2012
+1000
Chillz - February 3, 2012
The more I think about it, the more I don't think Manning is a good fit
Even though part of me REALLY wants to see us get that kind of QB. But is he really healthy and if so how many more years does he really have in him? Maybe 3?
aFan4Life - February 3, 2012
HOLD ON, there seems to be confusion here

Shit
THIS!

Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Haha i know you fixed it below, but damn it's funny having a headline promoting something and nothing ends up being there
it reminds me of the Redskins promoting McNabb like an elite QB.
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
the "link" function is broken
if you click the button and input the URL nothing shows up. But if you simply copy/paste into the text box it appears just fine. :/
TheDeepBall - February 3, 2012
Basically
*Doctors have cleared him. Not the in-house one. I need to fix that. One of them DID do the last surgery
Ronnie Adkins - February 3, 2012
Well here is the key
"One of ESPN’s sources was quoted as saying: “It’s not a safety issue; it’s a performance issue.”
He is physically cleared to play, but his arm strength is worse than Chad Pennington’s
Skins Fan '77 - February 3, 2012
That is a frightening article
I believe that Peyton is getting bad advice and his desire/impatiens to play our leading him down a path away from recovering… that is NOT how to rehabilitate a damaged nerve
Skins Fan '77 - February 3, 2012
I think this is
Irsay’s out to letting him go.
Redskin44 - February 3, 2012
Yea I'd go by that 1:30 AM tweet from Jim Irsay
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Reading washingtonwin's comments makes my head hurt
and this thread almost impossible to navigate
PJ_21 - February 3, 2012
Aint no thang. I think we be 2 much for him. He be scared of us and I think he leff.
The board should be back to normal soon.
mbedner - February 3, 2012
Arm strength - I've heard that Peyton is a workaholic
he’ll get that arm back to 95%, or not play.
Donnio1234 - February 3, 2012
Yeah I agree
And I doubt very much that he will obtain 95% this year
Skins Fan '77 - February 3, 2012
Football fans can be complete retards when it comes to logically evaluating a situation.
Peyton WILL NOT play in the same division as his brother. He may not even want to be in there same conference.
He will play on a team with at least one top notch receiver and a shot at the Super Bowl. (i.e. Arizona or San Francisco)
So Redskin fans wet dreams are just that…fantasy land make believe. If you are Peyton Manning, are you coming to the Redskins to win your Super Bowl next year? Nope. Let’s not be Homer-Fanboys and use common sense.
Beside the fact that drooling over a 36 y/o QB who has a bad neck and will not be able to throw at full strength is dumb.
Copious 1 - February 3, 2012 via Android app
Could Tennessee be another possible destination?
If he were to stay in the AFC?
mkjo - February 3, 2012
Definitely
So could the Jets
Copious 1 - February 3, 2012 via Android app
agree
I don’t really see the Skins being an option unless every other team closes their doors to Peyton
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
exactly
it’s not like he’s broke and needs a pay check. He’s going to want another SB ring and he’ll go to a team that gives him a good shot at that.
aFan4Life - February 3, 2012
Can we make washingtonwin an editor?
I think I know what’s in his bag…
The Shanaplan - February 3, 2012
sorry but
some of your logical reason don’t float
WILL NOT play in the same division as his brother…that is the silliest reason for him not to come here. That will not be an issue
Arizona has a shot at a Super Bowl? San Fran has good WRs? What makes you think San Fran wants him?
Redskin44 - February 3, 2012
I don't think that's silly at all and I tend to agree.
Many people have hinted at Peyton thinking this himself. Look at the Harbaugh family, Tom Creen (married to Harbaugh’s sister) said the family emotionally can’t take the two brothers coaching against each other and that it was a terrible night for the family. Different families has different dynamics, but I’d think Peyton doesn’t want to be close to Eli at all.
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Answer me this.
Why would he play in the same division?
If Garcon can be a top option, is Crabtree not significantly more talented?
Didn’t San Fran just get a game away from there Super Bowl with a less talented a now free agent QB?
So why would a 5-11 team interest him more than a conference championship team?
Copious 1 - February 3, 2012 via Android app
Why would facing his brother 2x a year be such a huge issue? It might be a minus, but he is not going to base his decision on this…not even close
Crabtree has yet to prove himself to be an elite WR. Certainly not a situation Peyton says " I wanna play with that guy"
We don’t know if Harbough even want him in San Fran
I will agree that are current state as a team will have an impact on his decision. And more importantly, what Peyton an Archie think of Shanny . But if they believe the team is turning the corner and has some good young talent, then they may feel its the right fit.
Redskin44 - February 3, 2012
I dont' know if he'll 'base his decision' on it
but i think it could be a significant factor. I basically think he’d choose just about any other team above the Skins. Not just the Eli factor, but also the chance to win.
The Skins are a team that is deeply rebuilding right now and they are in a pretty tough division. Yes only one team finished above .500, but who wants to bet against the Eagles next year, or think the Cowboys are really this bad. Going to a team in the AFC South, West or NFC West would be far more preferable, even if that team had a worst record than us. Peyton going to the Rams is better than the Skins, even though the Rams are less talented. St. Louis would then be in a position to trade both the RGIII pick and Bradford, plus they are in a weaker division.
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
the chance to win
will be one the most important factor, followed by ability to play in the system he wants, and then by contract $ and structure…and we fail at the first two
Redskin44 - February 3, 2012
Which is why I don't get ask off the Manning to the Redskins excitement.
Common sense says the Redskins would be at or near the bottom of his list. His decision will not be about money.
Copious 1 - February 3, 2012 via Android app
i’m just saying playing his brother 2x a year will not be a key factor, nor will the redskins lack of a clear #1 WR be a major factor, especially if we have the opportunity to add some weapons and protection for him via the draft and fa.
Redskin44 - February 3, 2012
49ers want him because all they've got is Alex Smith
and Smith was horrible in the playoffs. he is a boat anchor for them. They can get a WR (or 2 or 3) in the draft.
aFan4Life - February 3, 2012
REally? Here are his stats from the playoffs.
Vs Saints 24/42 299yds 7.1Avg 3TD 0INts 103.2QB rating
Vs Giants 12/26 196 7.5 2 0 97.6
mkjo - February 3, 2012
Congrats Ronnie!
Not only are you at nearly 200 comments on a Jeff Saturday post, but this has been one of the most entertaining things I’ve ever read. At times it reads like a Mel Brooks movie.
Steve Shoup - February 3, 2012
Congrats Ronnie! What a milestone! Welcome to the club!
Kevin usually ships us a trophy in the mail for these kind of milestones, I’m sure you’ll be receiving it soon. Office desk or mantle is going to be your toughest decision though.
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Hey y'all it's your country living rep. who is for an old rookie and db's that have tough names
Question, why do people think Rgiii will be a good QB in the NFL? Who is he going to be like Michael Vick? Look at their college numbers and ability numbers. Isn’t it going out on a limb picking up a QB like him who doesn’t match anyone who ever won a superbowl? When Vick came out it was talked about, not so much with Newton maybe times are changing and I didn’t notice. Funny how they changed without any S.B. victories.
About Manning, at 60% he’s probably better than most and we don’t really risk anything, no draft picks, at least that matter much. Let’s say next year with manning we pick 16 to 30 without we could pick at 5 to 15. I like to win but who really knows.
Sam Beckett - February 3, 2012
Does anyone know what this means?
Parks Smith - February 3, 2012
Just a joke
If it isn’t funny I have much better jokes in the bag.
Sam Beckett - February 3, 2012
Now you have a bag too?
What is it with people and bags on this site?
mbedner - February 3, 2012
Guess it's better than a purse.
Sam Beckett - February 3, 2012
Agree with the playing against his brother deal
pretty simple actually if you have younger brothers or a younger brother than you should understand and for those that don’t; brothers compete yes but not usually in public. There is no way he is going to come and play his bro twice a year. Also if the colts believe they can get healthy years out of him they would want to keep him I think.
Sam Beckett - February 3, 2012
I wonder why Eli refused San D.
Hmmm what does this mean? Guess San D. just sucks.
Sam Beckett - February 3, 2012
haha
talk to you guys later hope this helped.
Sam Beckett - February 3, 2012
Bring in Manning, Saturday, and Wayne...
Move Montgomery to Guard, Draft Blackmon, Draft a QB a round or so later in the draft…
btdbomb63 - February 3, 2012
yes we have nothing to lose
sign him for 2 years draft clairborne with the 6th pick and grab nick foles in the seond round. we make the playoffs next year and foles learns from the master and becomes the next montana for us in 3 to 4 years its that simple or we can still have grossman or beck next year
