When will the Redskins go to the Super Bowl?

I'll be 26 years old next month, which means I was born in 1986 (I know some struggle with math in this community). I've been told the Redskin have won two Super Bowls in my lifetime, but I don't really remember. Instead I have a memory that begins with the illustrious head coaching career of Norv Turner and a big time quarterback named Heath Shuler. That means, my brain has been through 18 seasons with only three playoff appearances.

I don't even know what winning is or how you do it. Instead of idolizing hardworking, high character guys like Darrell Green shape my view on this team, I grew up in an era where guys like Lavar Arrington, Bruce Smith, Deion Sanders, and others would do nothing but disappoint you. Sure they'd give you a taste of a good individual performance or a wild card game once in a blue moon, but there was no team, no Washington Redskins. Just a bunch of individuals looking out for number one and looking for a paycheck, and when the well ran dry they would just head elsewhere looking for somewhere else to get paid.

This day each year makes me jealous and makes me reflect. When will the Redskins make it back to a Super Bowl?

This is more of team right? Shanny is bringing in quality men, guys that look out for each other. Will this translate into annual playoff appearances and Super Bowl appearances? Man...I hope so. Winning one in the Giants house in 2014 sure would be nice...

2012

We’ll get a good QB this offseason and it’s on and popping.

You know its February 2012 right now, so to go to the Super Bowl in 2012 is going to be tough.
So will the winner tonight win the Superbowl of the 2012 season?
the winner of tonights game has a far better chance than the Skins of winning the Superbowl of the 2012 season
No they'll Win Super Bowl XLVI which is being played in 2012.

Contrary to popular belief, next year’s Super Bowl will be played in 2013.

So avoid the question to prove your smartass point.

God it’s like dealing with children. You know what I meant.

You just summed up your every day here.

I just wanted you to be at piece if the Mayans turn out to be right.

I've already planned my Mayan party.

I’m good to go.

If they are right just trade up for Griffin, because those future draft picks will be of no use.

+1
Halley's Comet

Let’s see: 26 is young. You’ve got time. Halley’s comet comes around every 75 years or so, so a Redskin super bowl appearance may yet roll around for you. (Just hope it’s not another 14-7 loss.)

Or the Raiders thing.

:-(

Optimistic & old

I voted for before 2015 because I will be 78 on Saturday and probably don’t have a lot of time left. I think Parks has the best chance of seeing the Skins in a super bowl.

I hope so, no offense
Could be worse

Born somewhere else, ya coulda been a Lions, Browns, Texans or Jaguars fan…..none of which has EVER BEEN to a Super Bowl….at least us old guys remember the three wins (and two losses) the Skins have had in the SB era.

haha the Texans and Lions probably aren't looking too bad to the younger generations
Heck, Redskins-Texas-Fan just took old coot status from me.

He’s old enough to remember Baugh playing, and the beat down we took against Chicago (and our winning it all two years later in the revenge game).

Heck, at 78, that’s actually OLDER than my dad, by a couple years.

OTOH, at 26, I might need to check to see what Park’s mom looked like…. that’s far enough back I might have dated her.

Oh, and I'm optimistic. We'll have a new Lombardi before 2020.

At least if we don’t screw up the QB question coming up.

Guess i should have asked earlier in the week

Are there any HH sponsored SB events around?

I was also born in '86

My only memory from any Redskins Super Bowl is in my kindergarten class the teacher asked who was gonna root for the Redskins and just about everybody put their hands up. Then she asked who was gonna root for the Bills and one kid put his hand up, then started crying cause he was the only Bills fan in the class, so the teacher told him she would root for the Bills too. I don’t know why that memory is so vivid, cause I don’t remember anything else before 3rd grade

Also born in '86

Pretty much the time when the Redskins went to the Super Bowl I was too young to understand or appreciate what was going on. I just knew a lot of people were talking about sports.

Don't feel bad

I am old enough to remember every Redskins Super Bowl appearance and I have forgotten most of them.
With the exception of:
the diesel on fourth and one in 1982
the absolute smack down of John Elway and the Broncos in the second quarter
having the over in the Raiders/Redskins Super Bowl… I can remember every miss scoring opportunity (Mosley misses a field goal, Marcus Allen put the ball on the ground… neither of these things ever happened before)

Yeah it sucks

Not really, did get to enjoy all three wins…so I’m not complaining about a loss in a 4th…It only sucks some of those Redskins teams ’82 are never mentioned in some of the great teams because Gibbs dominated with different QBs…

Why is mike shanahan talking to Seal?
I feel ya kid

atleast the older redskin fans lived through some glory days. Im 27 and the biggest redskin highlights in my mind are when Lavar retired Aikmen, when moss torched the cowboys on a monday night, and when we beat the Buccs in the playoffs with Sean Taylor sealing the deal. Other than that nothing but disparity.

Those are still good memories though.
Parks, The wait will be worth it!

It was awesome to see. I was 17 in 92, so I was at home. Losing sucks as well though. I remember the Raiders game. It was freezing and it snowed a few days earlier. I actually talked to Marcus Allen about it a few years bak. He laughed as me and told me that the raiders would have beaten them 9 out of 10 times that year. I remember vividly that they did aSNL skit on our SB sunday in ’92. the lame ass Bears skit winning it. It still bugs me to this day.

I'm not convinced we are going in the right direction

Shanny is a professional, sure and got the weightroom painted and the bubble built.

But the 3-4 was a waste. After a bunch of investment, we are finally back to where we started (not better) and AC had a flipping good year and made the pro bowl.

I also take Carlos’s comment about players being unhappy more seriously than some. If we have two more losing years and Shanny gets canned and it all comes out in the wash, then, will people say they “knew it”? Plus he is still a Bronco in my mind. Hiring him was like hiring Parcells or something.

i was born in 1992

so my birthday is a yearly reminder of how long its been since the skins won a Superbowl that I’ve never seen…. :/

yea i was born in 92 as well

but my bday in june so i was not alive when they won their last super bowl

myn was in May

so nether was I actually but it doesn’t take much brain power to do the math for a 3 month diff. :P

not until we get a good QB

and if we keep going with the trade back plan we’ll never get a good QB. The lottery plan where you get a good QB with a late round pick only works about .001% of the time.

wow, there sure are alot of young guys on this blog...

makes sense, with technology and all. I feel stupid, in comparison to my 18 yr. old son, when I see him move around a computer the way his generation does. I struggle just to educate myself on any new toy (my Playbook), and get familiar with how to manuever around.

So, which is better – Never having seen a great team, or Having not seen one in 20 yrs.? Speaking for myself, I miss winning the SB. I became a Skins fan when I was 12, in 1982, SB 17, the first real football game I watched; I was hooked, and, even though I lived in Arizona at the time, the Skins were my team, and still are. They say patience is a virtue. We have been patient for a long time. I can only hope, for all our sakes, that that patience pays off soon.

I've been a fan about the same amount of time

I don’t recall the exact year but it was during a MNF game and Riggins was demolishing the other team with run after run.

I think it is better to have seen them when they were good than to have never seen a good Redskins team.

And I’m a wee bit older than you (6 years) but I became a computer guy in 1990 so the computer stuff is just part of what I do for my job. Sometimes I really miss having a more physical job though.

The 91' Redskins dont get enough credit

I think they are one of the most underrated teams in history, I would put that 91’ Redskins team against any team in history and will be very confident in victory. That was a complete team in every phase of the game. Offense the best OLine in the history of football, 3 1,000 yard WRs, 1,000 yard back in Ernest Byner, Best short yardage team in history Gerald Riggs. Special teams was excellent, Chip Lohmiller, B Mitch returning, and a Capitol Punishment Defense Wilbur Marshall, D Green, Martin Mayhew, Charles Mann, Jumpy Geathers, Fred Stokes, Andre Collins, Matt Millen, Kurt Gouveia. Number 1 ranked offense, 2nd Ranked Defense, 5th in Special teams coverage, 1st in return yards. Simply Dominate.

agreed

unlike some SB teams, there really wasn’t a weakness anywhere. But you forgot 1 thing – the most awesome head coach ever!
