Hogs Haven

Looks Like Someone Has a Sixpack of the Mondays--Peyton Manning is NOT Coming to Washington

1. As I said two weeks ago, Giants fans are going to be hard to live with...for a long time.

2. In the last two seasons, the Redskins are 3-0 against eventual Super Bowl champions. No...it does not make me feel even a little bit better.

3. Some of you may recall me pulling hard for the Redskins to consider Kyle Orton last offseason. My thinking was that the Denver Broncos were going to feel compelled to let Orton go with Tim Tebow in the mix. I was not advocating trading anything for him--only a moron trades for a quarterback that is about to be released (unless said quarterback saves Hall of Fame head coach's life). Unfortunately, the Broncos were unprepared to unveil their circa 1947 offense in September, and Kyle Orton wasn't made available until midseason.

Here's the deal: Is Kyle Orton an upgrade over Rex Grossman? I think he is...but this would not be the first time an NFL team was forced to ask themselves that question. Somewhere around 2008ish, Lovie Smith and the Chicago Bears were wrestling with this horrendous conundrum. It is amazing to me that a recycled quarterback controversy involving two mediocre signal callers on a team led by its defense would be a SIGNIFICANT UPGRADE to the current quarterback situation in Washington.

Star-divide

4. If the Redskins are indeed going the free agent route to bring in a quarterback, to me that means that we are already in the process of trying to trade back in the first round. That would be the most likely play for Bruce Allen, and he has proven rather adept at the strategy. I am not suggesting that Kyle Orton would be our franchise guy, but a player like Orton could give the Redskins the ability to spend another draft shoring up the depth of the roster in key spots--like the offensive line. There may not be a player that a team wants to give up the boat for at #6, but surely Bruce Allen can find a dancing partner. Instead of the "Best Player Available" strategy, I am calling for the "Best Deal Available" strategy. Bruce Allen should be willing to take less than what pundits will suggest the #6 is worth if that is all that is available on draft day. I am not saying we should be stupid about it, but if we can add a couple decent picks in this draft as well as a good-to-great pick in next year's draft, I think we have to do that.

5. By the way, if we do sign Kyle Orton or Matt Flynn, there is a chance we could have a draft next season dedicated to being able to really take the Best Player Available at each of our slots. Assuming whomever we sign has a decent season (BIG assumption...probably dumb assumption), Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan could hit their fourth year together with a shot to add one or two pieces that could put the team into position to contend. Then again, they could use a decent incumbent as cover for a top draft pick to come in and learn behind. Sooooooooo...yeah, predicting what is going to happen here is as awful of a game as it ever has been.

6. One thing I am pretty sure about is that Peyton Manning is not coming to D.C. in 2012 (which really means there is a 10% greater chance he is coming now than there was 15 seconds ago). Peyton does not care about money--he will get it wherever he goes. He wants a chance to win, and he needs a team that is set to make a run. On one hand, you could argue that if you add Peyton Manning to any team, they are automatically a contender. On the other hand, I have a hard time seeing Peyton becoming convinced the Redskins are built to benefit the most from adding his arm and brain. While each of us could easily add up the additional wins this team would have earned with a healthy Manning as our quarterback, we could also easily predict his demise behind our offensive line. Then again...if we use our #6 overall pick on an offensive tackle, and our cap space on a top free agent guard, our offensive line all of a sudden is one a guy like Peyton could agree to play behind. (Get used to this game, by the way...or put a different way: get used to continuing to play this game.)

***Bonus: If for whatever reason we do sign Peyton Manning, I would like to see us draft a center in the 3rd round. I would love to see a stud center come into the league and cut his teeth snapping the ball to Peyton. That kind of thing could pay off for a decade after Manning leaves.

I'm only ok with a FA QB if the thought in Ashburn is to also draft a QB in the 2nd-4th

I do disagree that with the thought that if we sign a QB that that signals trading back. There is chance that Blackburn, Claiborne, or maybe even a lineman they are high on will be sitting at 6. Claiborne or Blackburn would be especially hard to pass up, but could bring in a tremendous bounty also.

I think the thought has to be to wait until were on the clock, see what calls come in and then go from there. I believe if we trade back its going to be another team initiating it and not us.

It might be another team calling, but we will be wearing our sluttiest dress.

In a court of law, the prosecutor would argue “We were totally asking for it.”

just to be clear, Parks

you would even be ok with signing Manning, as long as we drafted a QB as well?

I wouldn't prefer it, but I could live with it.
why?

there are better prospects in the first next year than the 2nd this year.

Really? What year is that not going to be the case?

You know who is coming out next year? You know what draft slot we’re going to have? I know you’re enamored with Aaron Murray, but there are no guarantees on who is going to be available.

and there's also no guarentee we'll be in a position to draft one of them

especially if trading up is off the table.

One thing I

Will pretty much guarantee is that if Shanny doesn’t get a young QB this year, he won’t be around next year. That is, unless we somehow make it to the playoffs.

I think you're right

Snyder isn’t going to be infinitely patient – no owner is.

Be very prepared

to talk yourself into Peyton over the next few months. Not saying its going to happen, just that it will seem that way….

I'm not sure

But am I the only skins fan that wants Peyton manning to come here,

Not at all. If he is healthy and hungry, I would be thrilled to have him here
Problem is

if he is actually healthy and hungry, he should have much better options than the Redskins.

Perhaps....or maybe he would LOVE to play for Shanahan
exactly

IF, the really big IF, he’s healthy I’d love to have him but he’s going to be looking for a team that is ready to go the distance NOW, not someday.

Just you and this guy

And his stomach
You meant his unborn baby.
Is that W2W?

Or LJP?

‘cuz my gut’s not that big, my hair’s not that grey, I rarely wear ballcaps, never wear nuckle rings and don’t drink beer.

By nuckle rings you mean sunglasses, haha
Dude is truly hardcore.

Ready to take his “glasses” and use them to slice open the face and throat of anyone who asks him to hang up his cell phone and sit down.

thats funny pic. i have a friend that is a huge colts/manning fan

and he looks just like that dude in the picture. minus about 60-80 pounds lol

I swear that guy's

Related to Joe Jacoby. Once you locate his chin, block out everything below it. Looks just like Jake. He’s prob’ly on the phone with Rent-A-Center.

If we go the FA route with a QB, going for Orton or Flynn

then I want Reiff in the first, and Russell Wilson somewhere.

Would like this a lot. FA QB and draft 2 young QBs
What about Danny Espinosa?
Never heard of him.
You've never heard of "Spinner"!?!?!
no
Well don't be surprised when he has a breakout year in 2012.
what are you thinking 25 HR's, 30 SB's and about a .815 OPS?
Absolutely
seems fair

i’m wondering if in CF they try moving Desmond there, move Espy to SS, and let Lombardozzi keep 2B warm until Rendon is ready.

and yes i’ll stop with the baseball talk everyone

Werth is

Gonna be in CF.

hence why i'm looking for other options haha
call duquette

give us some good prospects for a. jones. More than happy to oblige you.

i don't like baseball
Rather send Lannan to Anaheim for Bourgois
Think their pretty set in the rotation
that might start the French Revolution again, which could be good for the French since they are guaranteed a win!

I think it would have taken Peacock or Cole plus another piece to land him unfortunately.

if it is duquette making the deal i don't think you need to use good prospects

god i feel bad for the O’s this year

I'd be ok with this if...

We get the chance to still take Tannenhill by drafting down. I don’t want Foles or Weeden.

I don't care how healthy Peyton is, I want our guy.

Like Rodgers is the Packers QB, Eli for the Giants, Rivers for the Chargers, Roethlisberger for the Steelers etc…

The Redskins need “their guy.”

Not a retread.

Like Brees for the Saints!
What does Drew Brees have to do with this?

That’s one guy.

And before you do it I’ll go ahead and say Vick for the Eagles and Schaub for the Texans. Save you a little time.

His point was that there's more than one way to get a good QB
Thank you Stephan.

Without that deep analysis I would have never figured that out.

Then why did you ask the question?
Because, is there a Drew Brees available this year?

No.

Actually Drew Brees is available this year.
worst set-up ever....
Seriously, sometimes you two make this blog unbearable.

Seasons done. I’ll be back when free agency gets here.

hope ur kidding

I thoroughly enjoy your comments. Agree with most, cept when you start talking bout those vampire movies.

Ok see ya tomorrow...
come on IH8, you walked into that wall

but speaking of wanting your own guy maybe then trading back to land Tannehill would suit your fancy, since he could be that developmental guy like Rivers or Rodgers.

I'm back.

Tannehill would be fine with me, but if we get a QB I want them to start week one, not develop behind some pud of a QB.

So no Orton for you?

I agree. We may as well keep Rex. Ugh.

i know people don't like it, but most of the greats sat for at least the majority of their rookie season

why rush it next year when the upside is maybe 1 extra win, and the downside could set the kid back a couple years.

Fans have no patience

All of them except for Peyton pretty much. I hope our front office figures that out

Or Sanchez for the Jets
Thank you Stephan.

Without that deep analysis I would have never figured that out.

I'd barf if they gave us Sanchez
You think they would want to trade him for Orakpo and Williams?

You know, what we almost gave up to the Browns.

That would be a horrid trade for us

Why trade a stud player and a could be stud player (if he stays away from the weed) for a mediocre QB? No thanks!

for some reason I always read retread as retard
So much I wanna say.....
What was the difference between the 2010 Playoff Colts and 2011 Worst Team in Football Colts?

Answer: Peyton Manning

He makes your Receivers way better than what they are (I could have picked up Reggie Wayne in several Fantasy Football Leagues late in the year).
He makes your offensive line look good (the same way Rex makes the Skins line look horrible).
He puts your team in the Playoffs.

And he's one hit away from breathing through a tube.
rex looked liked he was breathing through a tube already
Thats because rex showed up to our limited offseason looking like a bag of cheeseburgers.
And so is every other QB in the NFL
The who operated said: If you were my son, I'd clear you to play. This was not long ago after his spinal fusion was successful

But you never know, those doctors can be mighty cocky regarding the success of their own procedures. Especially when a multi-millionaire’s life, income, and reputation are on the line…

Many reports have said Manning is not in danger

He won’t be paralyzed from a hit, at least not one that wouldn’t have paralyzed him anyhow. And sorry MadRussian, I’m not including links again. Must be making it up :-)

Yeah, but

That’s not our problem. His choice. Personally, I’m not interested in Manning, but if it’s between his and Orton, gimme ol’ Longneck anytime.

Umm

Shouldn’t you be asking what’s the difference between the Redskins and Colts? Differences in the O-line, offensive weapons, and pass rush are of note.

It should be noted that our offensive line is not THAT bad
Relative to the Colts, it is atrocious.

How’s their running game?

its like 6th or 7th worst in the league, and outside of Trent no one really projects to get any better

I’d say that is pretty bad.

if peyton can make the colts look good

he can make any team look good!!!! whoever signs him guarenteed playoffs.

man I've got to say I missed being part of this site last week

My employer has imposed more strict Internet security. Thus banning hogs haven and all of SB nation along with espn and others. Making my days go by so slow.

Burger King finally cracked down?

ZING….

no they're still lenient on me since I'm new

I just got switched to a nuclear job therefor security is tighter here due to proprietary information.

What Nuke

What nuclear plant are you in? We allow almost everything except for youtube and the obvious sites. This makes the days go by pretty smoothly, having someone else to share your pain and misery with.

see I can watch YouTube they don't care about that at all.

Theyre getting ready to take our Internet admin rights so we won’t be able to download anything offline anymore. Work is gonna really start sucking. I’m working on a small modular reactor that won’t even start construction until 2020

Some of the OSHA sites are banned here.

It makes it hard for me to do my job sometimes. I only have 1 more week here and I’m off to Florida to work.

st lucy?
My job did the same thing

though no one would let me within a mile of a nuclear device of anykind(I will spill a 40 on it)

What saved me was my droid and unlimited 4g data. God bless.

download the app....

it’s got a lot of bugs in it, but you can at least keep up

I can't even get in it most the time
So wait

Are you making the argument that the Colts O-line, offensive weapons, and pass rush are much better than the Redskin’s?

If so, how did they “Luck” into the number 1 pick. Outside of Reggie Wayne, what did their receivers do this year without Manning? Washington was 14th in passing while the Colts were 27th.

The Redskin’s were 10th in the league in sacks with 41. Indianapolis was 27th in the league with 29.

I do have to agree that the Colts offensive line was better this year with 6 less sacks given up (35 to 41) and QB hits (108 to 81), but I feel as though that can be remedied with the full use of our upcoming draft and free agency to vastly improve the capability of the guys that would line up in front of Manning.

I am just more pointing out that I think we have better tools here than folks tend to believe.

Our pass rush

Has got to be superior to theirs. He didn’t say theirs was better he just mentioned it as a difference. It’s obvious that Peyton Manning was the cog that made the machine run. I don’t know how long Curtis Painter has been in Indianapolis but he obviously didn’t learn much from PM.

I watch a lot of colts games because I am a big fan of manning, when Curtis painter was the qb

The offense was stagnant, everyone dared painter to throw, the receivers that manning had were good not great exception of Reggie Wayne. Pierre garçon was a hit or miss. He will drop the easiest catch and make the unbelievable catch except you did not know which came which week. Austin collie was a good slot receiver but got hurt too often and when he was Healthy with manning they were unstoppable. But as soon as manning was gone and he disappeared off the face of the planet look at his stats , while playing in less games as last year put up more receptions than with a healthy season with painter as his qb. Joseph Adlai also had an injury bug and they had to rely on what most fans on stampede blue called a bust of a running back. Their offensive live with painter was terrible with manning they were on elf the best. Manning makes the team significantly better. My hope goes like this we sign manning then center from Houston and hopefully Blackmon from the draft because manning never had the big tall receiver he. Has had to work with average size receivers. Give him 2 young big receivers in hankerson and Blackmon and young depth at rb with helu and royster. Also the colts defense while it had some stars, manning put them in the position to look good. They played not to lose because manning gave them a good lead. But without. Him him they had to catch up not used to that at all. While signing manning I hope they draft a a qb in the 2-4 rounds maybe a guy like weeded so incase manning does go down you have weededen already mature and he has a connection with Blackmon

The problem in that whole thing is "Curtis Painter"
and exactly while we will suck until we get a good QB

all this trade back and pick up some slug FA QB makes me ill.

Replace PAINTER with PEYTON and we might have seen the first brothers to play against each other in the superbowl
The questions is replace Painter with an average QB, Rex Grossman, and what happens?
Rex Grossman average?

Kyle Orton is average. Jason Campbell is average. Rex Grossman is not average, he is in the upper echelon of horrible.

right...
I don't know what Rex Grossman you watched this past season.
We're all aware that Rex isn't a good starting QB. Give it a rest man.

This team is bad, stop trying to polish this dog turd by throwing Rex under the bus every, single day.

I'm not sure if you're aware,

but I’ve started a grassroots movement to get rid of Rex Grossman.

Support us at www.imnotgoingdeepanymore.org

or follow us @RexGrossmanIsTerrible

That's not a real website by the way.
i almost clicked and decided to donate money to that cause
Awesome from the guy that brought you www.JohnBeckistheSavior.com

It was up in July but disappeared in October.

That is the question

I think Painter is much worse than Rex but that’s not because Rex is good, it’s because Painter is that bad.

I see your point

The colts this season was more healthy than the team last season, last year they were an emergency room and this year they had nearly everyone healthy except 1 player and we all know who that one player is

If Peyton comes here, won't he and Kyle butt heads?
that's reason why Peyton isn't coming.

Kyle is a bone-head milksop

A tatoo on the thigh will make that disappear real quick
Chicken or Egg?

Is it possible the term “franchise quarterback” is a tad over-rated? I mean, Washington won all its Super Bowls without the proverbial “franchise” guy under center.
More to the point, do you build a winning team soley around one “franchise” QB or are you better off buildong a squad that’s so strong everywhere else that you can lose a starter (Jay Schoeder (sp?) and simply plug a Doug Williams into the lineup and still win big?
IF THE OPPORTUNITY PRESENTS ITSELF…might not the ’Skins be better advised to avoid the “trade-up” syndrome and either draft for need or trade down to fill more holes in the lineup?

All I Know is

THE REDSKINS BETTER GO TO THE PLAYOFFS NEXT SEASON.

I can see Danny and elder Shanahan sitting around thinking “Yeah, we swept the Giants last year. So in a sense we won the Superb Owl. Most of the fans feel that way too!!”

Am I the only one sensing another sub 8 win season?

We won the super owl and I wasn't made aware?

I hope this gives us a strategic edge next year. Does this owl have any super powers?

No, it's just a really Superb Owl.
Magnificent, isn't she?

Its kind of hard to predict next season's record the day after the Superbowl.

There’s the whole free agency and draft thing they have to take care of before you know who’s actually on the team. Unless you have washingtonwin’s power of prediction.

can't be that hard...

We won 5 games in 2010, 6 games in 2011, so 7 games in 2012 seems about right.

Little off

2010-6 Wins
2011-5 Wins
2012-?-4 Wins

Oh Great….

Well was i off by alot ?

I said we would be 4-12 this year i was off by 1 , and the previous 2 years i was right on the money . Plus when we got McNabb i said before the season started he was going to be in a minnesota viking uniform and i was right as well on that right.

Yeah, but your reasoning was as convoluted as a History Channel special on the Secret Pyramid Code

Conspiracy this, back room agreement that, blah blah blah.

Question was i right or wrong?
how did the greatest QB ever lose last night??
Plus their defense sucks .
Yea they definitely lost that one b/c of their defense... (insert sarcasm font)
why should that matter though?

great QB’s win games, and the greatest should never lose according to you.

Missed opportunities

Welker, Hernandez and Branch all dropped crucial passes. That being said, they lost as a team.

Beating the Giants is simple. Pressure Manning.

NE has no pass rush and he killed them.

Man, with that insight why aren't NFL teams ringing your number off the hook!?

Pressuring the QB is basically the key to winning in general…

BINGO
NE should have blitzed more.

They were rushing 3-4 guys all game. Bad game plan.

You realize the receiving corp the Giants have make it very difficult to allow for an extra pass rusher?

They aren’t just not rushing Eli because Belichick is a ruhtard.

yeah and they did get decent pressure

they had 3 or 4 sacks and a number of other pressures. They were def. missing Andre Carter, but then again the giants were without Beatty.

Not for the Skins!
how many wins next year and who will be our qb
If we get RG3

We will win at least 10 games , but if we dont we will be around 7-9 or 8-8 if we are lucky. But it depends on the QB .

RGIII

as rookie is going to win 10 games?

If we have rex at QB 6-10
Was I the only one

when we were on that long losing streak during the season with Beck in there, that thought it would be really funny if we went 4-12 and that washingtonwin would be right?

If we end up with manning

We will do more harm to our team than if we traded up to get RG3 , if you get manning then there goes the cap money when we could have traded up to get our guy at the rookie salary and be our franchise QB . But if manning comes here we win a few extra games then we will be ending up picking around 15 or higher and then have to move up in the draft yet giving up MORE picks just to move up to get a good QB when we could have snagged our guy this year . Yet prolonging us from getting our QB to get use to our system on top of it wasting more years taking longer to start winning .

Wrong

Manning has already made it clear he is willing to take on a contract that is purely incentive and performance driven. I’m pretty sure in this current situation that he is willing to make his impact on the field instead of the cap an attractive bargaining chip. Like the elder Shanahan said before, we can’t afford to give up a bunch of picks to move up for one player – yet. Give it a year of drafting and free agency again and next year we can move up and get our Aaron Rodgers who will sit behind Peyton for a few years before we hand over the reigns. We need to stop talking about Russell Wilsons etc…we build this team to compete through free agency and the future through the draft. Peyton this year, Barkley next year. Not RG3 this year and lack of draft picks this year and next because of it. We still have some building to do.

f Matt Barkley

If he didn’t pull this stunt this year we wouldn’t have these mindless debates everyday.

Same thing happened 2 years ago

If Locker had come out, we probably would have had either him or Bradford with the #4 pick.

Redskins: always the bridesmaid, never the bride...
That's why we need to kidnap our QB this year.
And Locker would be the next bust in DC
Its always NEXT YEAR and 23 QBs in over 20 years .

This is what is wrong with this team , we always get someone elses garbage . Yea peyton might still have a few years left but whats wrong with getting one of the best QBs in the game ? RG3 is way better than barkley will ever be by far . We have to stop this effin QB merry go round . Every year all you hear is we will get our QB next year , well its been 20 years and 23 QBs later . RG3 in my opinion is even better than Andrew Luck maybe not by that much but he is way better i think . RG3 has more passing yards than LUCK but yet LUCK has a better offensive line than RG3 did , plus Luck is a pocket QB thats not to good at scrambling and RG3 is better at it than luck plus both are very accurate passers so i say RG3 is the better QB . If we dont get RG3 and pick up a FA QB YET AGAIN we have seen how well that has worked out year after year after year , and now you can say 24 QBs in 21 years so tell me when the merry go round stops ? BUILD FROM THE DRAFT NOT FROM OLD QBs who wanna retire and make a lot of money from us . Get our franchise QB and stop getting these broken down overpaid players who wanna come here and make a huge payday and retire . Build the team right not revert to vinnys and synders tactics Again .

I agree and I stand by my prediction that we're trading up for RG3.

We have to get our guy THIS YEAR.

Well watch

How everyone will change their tune after we win 1q0 or more games with RG3 if we get him , which i think we will also . Shanny i think is doing good with the smoke screens lol.

oops 10 or more games
If Orton and Manning are being floated around now, it's guaranteed we're going another way.
Nothing is gauranteed in DC. Hahaha.
Except...

Death, Taxes and Andrew Luck

We are a team of uncertainty.

Once we build a track record of certainty, I will not place any bets haha.

Shanny could bring orton in

Just to throw people off to make them think we wont go after RG3.

RG3 in my opinion is even better than Andrew Luck maybe not by that much but he is way better i think

How does that even make sense?

haha
+1
probably only a +1

but it is defintely a +200

ugh

Luck=Rex Grossman?

Luck is a pocket QB thats not to good at scrambling

you might want to invest in meds to help with depression then

Without a major upgrade at QB and OL and WR we aren’t going to the SB next year.

Peyton and Jabar Gaffney

would make quite the duo if that were to happen. As a Broncos fan, one regret I do have is letting Gaffney go. I’m sure glad he’s worked out so adroitly for you, as I assumed he would

Several powers actually:

Powers include:
-Going entire game with out giving away a turnover
-Having a 4th quarter lead
-Not getting shut out (blow out’s are still possible)
-dominant defensive performances
-Secondary’s collective football IQ booseted to 100
-FG Kicking accuracy improvement

And the best power:

the WR’s actually play as if they are in the NFL!

i'm watching everyone talk themselves into how awesome manning would be

its like mcnabb all over again
it starts out
NOOOOOOOOO
well actually..maybe..kinda
Yea, okay this could be good.
CHAMPIONSHIP!
season starts
awwwwwwww fk

Ha

That definitely was not me. I got physically ill that Easter we traded for him, and hated the trade ever since.

I can't believe some of the isht I read in comments...

First off – I am a skins fan. So don’t think I’m some troll. However..

Some of the crap I read in the comment sections makes me understand why other teams and their fans look at us the way they do. We all know that free agency is usually the most exciting time of the year for us, normally because we have traded away our draft picks and were done playing football months ago. But that ship has sailed. FINALLY. And now after a decade of darkness under the bug eyed moron the Redskins ARE being rebuilt. The right way too. Before everyone goes pointing back to Donovan McNabb and crying, its over, and it was a bump in the road. I won’t ramble more than i already have, but this team is a lot closer than every sports analysts wants you to believe ( ESPECIALLY WILBON).

The Colts were 2-14 without Manning. So to say we are so horrible he will never come here…look at that team without him. I’m optimistic. The reason being Peyton is more than a stopgap QB and he isn’t washed up. He was injured. Drew Brees was left for dead too at one time. We bring in Peyton and trade up next year for Matt Barkley. Then everyone will shut up finally.

All it takes is a few free agent signings and we are looking respectable. Myers the center from Houston and Grubbs the guard from Baltimore make this OL look impressive immediately. Quality players also available that aren’t washed up big names we used to pursue, but respectable talent that will add depth and instantly provide upgrades will also be found in Marques Colston, Michael Griffin and Ladarius Webb. It’s not a fantasy football team, its providing quality guys, at the right age.

We can trade back in the draft, maybe grab Reily Reiff OT, Vontaze Burfict to learn under London Fletcher or Dre Kirkpatrick to add some CB depth right otuside the top 10 and look at us now.

My point is these aren’t huge name signing and they also aren’t fairy tale signings. These are all doable. Have faith, this will take time.

If the Shanahans are willing to trade up next year

Why wouldn’t they be willing to trade up this year, at what on assumes would be a lower cost? Unless you are saying signing Peyton Manning will make us worse, at which point we can assume the Shanahans won’t be here to trade up.

Because one solution

involves gaining extra ammunition to trade up next year, thus ensuring we don’t have to give up as much in net cost as we would if we traded up this year. That is to say, with the right planning we can trade up while retaining most of our high picks over the next 2 years.

Trading up this year would mean we wouldn’t have any picks for next year with which to fill new holes, not to mention we still have to fill the 7 we already have, which trading up this year would prevent us from doing.

that misses the change in cost...even if you have more ammunition

so unless we are planning on losing with Manning, the cost very likely would not be able to make up for the difference in draft position.

That is to say, with the right planning we can trade up while retaining most of our high picks over the next 2 years.

That is virtually impossible if one assumes Barkley is going to be a top 2 pick like Luck or Griffin unless the redskins regress next year, which I assume wouldn’t be the point of signing Peyton Manning.

the thing is

that he probably won’t – not to mention, there will likely be at least 2 other QBs worth a top 15 pick – Barkley and Jones are sure to come out, and then you have the Juniors – Wilson, Murray, Bray, etc. – who are all worth a top 15 selection and any of which could choose to come out. Added to the extra ammunition we’ll have, and we will have a much easier time trading up next year.

so we should pull a Colts next year?

In that case we can let Grossman go and go with Beck! Plus just about any late round QB (5th / 6th round).

Anyone see Ken's car on the Bay Bride this morning?

(this really happened)

That vehicle looks waaaaaaaaaaaaay to new to belong to me

I only drive beaters

plus, if it was your car it'd have these...

I never realized you could put

P8N and its phonetically Peyton. Kinda neat

Anybody have a guess as to where Jason Campbell ends up?
Browns
He was linked to the Cowboys this morning.
Really? Odd.

As a backup or starter?

Maybe Jerry has had enough of Tony.
Yeah, but that seems like a lateral move... if not a downgrade.

Going from the guy who can’t win the “big” games to the guy that can’t win “most” games…

Backup, I guess they don't trust McGee and they are looking for a replacement for Kitna
He has a propensity for losing his starting job so maybe the Colts sign him as a free agent and then cut him on draft day.

How much worse can it get for the kid?

i'd guess the Jets

I think the Sanchize will have a very short leash and might not even make it through the preseason as a starter.

Campbell is as good as Sanchez if not better so that would be a good move by the Jets
I am intrigued by Peyton coming to Washington

if it were to occur, he and Eli in a division together? That would be fantastic. It’s only a matter of time before Snyder throws bonzo bucks at someone…

If Kyle Orton is the QB on opening day next year,

I predict that there is a 99% chance Mike Shanahan is not coach of the Redskins opening day next year. Which is why I continue to believe the Shanahans have boxed themselves into trading up, or drastically overpaying for Matt Flynn. (Peyton Manning isn;t coming here to lose to his brother twice a year and be part of a rebuild. Sorry.)

Barring that I suspect we will sign someone like Orton (or keep Grossman), but that person will not be the starting QB opening day which will be the beginning of the end for the Shanahan tenure. They will still draft a QB in the first round as a reach. This is the last thing they want to do and I submit they will work incredibly hard to avoid this remote possibility.

The Skins can do better than Orton

I hope for you guys’ sake anyway

You guys would have been better off sticking with Orton.

Running an offense with Orton under center, Tebow and Moreno in the backfield could have been epic with the misdirection possibilities. It’s clear, however, that Tebow has no clue how to throw the ball in the NFL on anything approaching a consistent basis. Orton had a 4,000 yard season with you guys. Just chose the wrong one.

You predict a percentage? How does that work?
I can't divulge my model...way too valuable....
Why would he lose twice a year to his brother?

Rex beat his brother twice this year. Are you saying Rex is better than PM?

I don't think he cares about being in the same division as Eli

If anything I could see it as a reason for him to come here

I highly doubt the Mannings are into guaranteeing at least two

family losses a year.

Regardless, the man isn’t walking into a rebuild healthy while his brother already has one more ring than him. That simply doesn’t make sense. I believe he is a bigger competitor than that.

Nope...I am saying that he would know the team was worse and

the potential was there…

Regardless, one of them would lose. That wouldn’t be good for family business.

the beginning of the end for the Shanahan tenure was trading for McNabb

the stink of that is going to be hard to shake.

I don't think Peyton would worry about playing in the same division as his brother

Opposing QBs don’t actually play each other. The location – area, culture, climate – of the team could be a factor – presumably he would have to move his family. He’s a Southerner. And he will have to like the team, like the people – want to play. The Skins are a high profile team and would be a great challenge for a superstar like Peyton Manning. And Shanahan has a big reputation. It seems to me that the intangibles are very favorable to the Skins. But somebody could still outbid us.

Once again this is why i love Mike Shanahan

The speculation on qb possibilities is headed in directions no one can decipher. Orton, Manning, Flynn, unnamed rookies, who the hell knows what he is thinking. That is the beauty of it all. Have them thinking this so you can do that. Personally i welcome the stealth “belicheckian” if you will form of articulating his gameplan. The Howard Eskin bullshit just made me laugh. Who the hell is he talking to? Vinny? Every time i hear him on the sports fix, he’s just an arrogant smart ass who never really makes a valid point. Anyway, Orton signs 3 year deal. Trade back draft foles/tannehill or reiff and tannehill/foles without tradeback.

except it is the opposite of "belicheckian"

with Bill you hear nothing….with Mike you hear everything….and then some.

Im actually for getting Manning and then going all in for Barkley next year

I firmly believe that Peyton is not done and has 2 or 3 good years left. He has said that you wont have to sign him to a huge contract with alot of guaranteed money to obtain him. If we can get one of the stud FA OG and then pick a tackle or center in the ist 2 rounds this year, than our line should be very solid and should be able to protect him. As much as I would like Griffin instead, I just dont think right now we can afford to give up as many picks as it will end up taking . Having peyton for 3 years and barkley learning behind him for two of those years (Just like Rodgers) could very well work out.

do you plan on getting Manning and losing more next year than this year?

otherwise, not sure how you plan getting Barkley? When you say all in, what do you mean?

if we go all in for barkley next year i wont watch the redskins gain till

mike shanahan and bruce allen is in the funny pappers. as soon as ray lewis retires i can force my self to be a ravens fan i think….

F Barkley

he screwed us over so bad. Short term? Maybe it was a blessing in disguise. Maybe next year we can get Tyler Bray now.

Are you SERIOUS?

You’re actually mad at a kid for finishing his college commitment? You need a reality check, friend.

he's not going back to finish his college commitment

1. He’s not going to make more money doing anything else whatever his degree may be in. (even if he does own a pottery store)

2. He screwed the Redskins over by leaving the draft…why are you not pissed

3. I doubt he’s going back to school just to pursue his degree….he’s king of L.A. not just USC

4. I go back to money again….say he’s in the NFL for 3 years and flames out…Cam Newton got 4yrs 22 million Guaranteed. Considering its 2 years difference he’s likely to be a top pick I can assume he’ll make around 20 million in 3 years. He’ll have plenty of money to go back to college and finish his degree, and he still wont need to work.

5. Lets sum it up….why aren’t you mad that some kid in college is going to make more money in 1 year then you will in 10, decided to go back to school screw are team over from a QB perspective and then praise him for going to college getting drunk and nailing any girl he wants because he wants to? I have a right to be mad at him. And even if his intents were to get his degree and do nothing but that and play football i’d be mad at him. He had a chance to be our QBOTF and he left us out to dry.

I don't think he did it to personally piss of Redskins fans...
that's my thought too

Personally I think it’s better to make the guarenteed millions and then go back to college but whatever. I’d just hate to see a guy go back, get hurt and then never even make it to the NFL.

I know he didn't do it to piss us off

but it pissed me off

For all you know the dude can be in a wheelchair in a couple of years, some people actually like having a backup plan
He’s not going to make more money doing anything else whatever his degree may be in.
I was implying he would have the money to go back to college (which he would)

BTW was anybody able to find out his degree. I couldn’t find what it was in.

yeah but the primary plan should come first
what if he went back to try to win a National Championship?

honestly though I don’t care, I’m not a huge Barkley fan and i think it is for the best that the Skins didn’t get him.

Wow.

Just, wow. Some people have their priorities totally skewed these days.

if you get mediocre quaterbacks ,you get mediocre play then...

….you get us bragging about sweeping the Super Bowl Champs. Get Payton , even as a coach or mentor , he could do nothing but benefit this team
