The Dallas rumor mill is churning today with the thought of Demarco Murray's arrival possibly putting Felix Jones on the trading block. ESPN's Calvin Watkins presented the idea:
Should the Cowboys consider trading Jones this offseason? It's hard to accomplish a trade with Jones entering the final year of his contract. The Cowboys should explore whether a fourth-or fifth-round pick is available for the former first-round pick.
Kyle Shanahan already said earlier in the offseason that the Redskins will be looking to add one more running back to the rotation, even if Tim Hightower is re-signed. But would Felix Jones be a fit or would it make more sense to take a flyer on a draft pick?

Some Redskins fans hate even the thought of harboring the enemy, but I relish it. I like hungry guys looking for revenge, ala Stephen Bowen. Trading Jones would be the ultimate sign of disrespect. Jones has been injury plagued throughout his career, but when healthy he has a lot of versatility in not only the rushing game, but the passing game, and the return game. Jones has one year left on his contract and would cost the Skins just over one million dollars in 2012.
If the Redskins were to use a 5th round draft pick for Jones, which I'm considering dealing, then the running backs that may fall into that range are Vick Ballard (So Miss), Tauren Poole (Tennessee), Terrance Gannaway (Baylor), Bobby Rainey (WKU), and Davin Meggett (Maryland).
To be honest I wouldn't be opposed to either scenario, although I think Jones would be a higher risk/reward kind of deal. He certainly has more talent and experience than any of the prospects, but could he stay healthy.

Don't need no Cowpuke cast-offs
If he isn’t good enough to play for them why is he good enough to play for us?
DudleyDoright - February 7, 2012
because DeMarco Murray outperformed our backs
Steve Shoup - February 7, 2012
DeMarco Murry?
The post is about bringing in Felix Jones…not Murray. Just because Murray is the flavor of the moment in Pukeland doesn’t mean we have to sign their rejects.
DudleyDoright - February 8, 2012
Tashard Choice didnt seem to adapt well...but of course there is a
talent difference…
DavidDunn - February 7, 2012
Yea but he was likely just brought in for intel
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
quite possible...and less of a talent
DavidDunn - February 7, 2012
the only knock for me is that he'd be a free agent after this year
so while there is a ton of upside, the Redskins would risk having to give him a huge deal or lose him.
Steve Shoup - February 7, 2012
Yea but I think the versatility he brings would be nearly worth the risk.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
i'd consider it, but i wouldn't jump at it
now if I knew the Skins were going to trade back and add additional picks then that would be one thing.
Steve Shoup - February 7, 2012
What if I told you that we were going to trade Brandon Banks for an 8th round pick.
Would that be something you might be interested in?
We need to find some junk sell. Armstrong, Stallworth, something
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
to high for brandon Banks
Brad Johnson was a 9th rounder!!!!
yes i do understand there are only 7 rounds
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
haha
yeah unfortunately pretty much anything worth selling we actually want
Steve Shoup - February 7, 2012
Felix Jones
No question. but its probably not gonna happen.
SpartanFS47 - February 7, 2012 via mobile
I agree, I just can't really see it happening. Dallas would make us give up more than a 5th.
mbedner - February 7, 2012
I agree its pretty unlikely, just a discussion outside of quarterbacks haha
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
Completely agree. Regardless of its probability, this is far better than a QB discussion.
mbedner - February 7, 2012
Anything but QB till we get one.
SpartanFS47 - February 7, 2012 via mobile
Wouldn't you rather have Rainey?
mbedner - February 7, 2012
I don't get it, people fall in love with midget, fast running backs every year during draft time.
Just like Noel Devine and Jacquizz Rodgers last year. Helu is fine as the change of pace back, having a back with the versatility of Jones would trump Rainey in my opinion. Jones is a proven commodity when healthy in the NFL, Rainey is a proven commodity in the worst football conference in the country.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
Is everyone talking about the same Rainey?
I thought the reference was to Chris “time to die bitch” Rainey, from UF. Much as I hate Florida and the SEC, have to admit it’s the best conference in the country, not the worst.
tuckwell - February 7, 2012 via iPhone app
Good question. I'm talking about Bobby Rainey from Western Kentucky.
Rainey 1.0: 3rd-4th round prospect, 5’8, 175, stalker
Rainey 2.0: 5th round prospect, 5’8, 205, not a stalker
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
I was talking about Chris, not Bobby... should have been clear
mbedner - February 7, 2012
We don't need a stalker on the team.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
I don't have a problem, he isn't stalking me...
mbedner - February 7, 2012
That's not to say that I'm not worth stalking or anything
I just doubt I’m his type.
mbedner - February 7, 2012
Yea but he may stalk and take out the other RBs on our depth chart.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
I think the other RBs girlfriends should be the most worried.
mbedner - February 7, 2012
Sorry, Parks...
Not even when healthy. He has been nothing short of a bust, definitely a big disappointment. Even coming our of college, his singular skill was he was fast. Whopi!!
DON’T NEED HIM, DON’T WANT HIM, CAN’T HAVE HIM!!!!
(What is this, Norv Turner’s second coming, we are now trolling through Dallas’ back yard? Stay away, please.)
jgibbsfan1 - February 7, 2012
Look at his 2010 numbers, its not the talent that is the problem its his health.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
I look beyond the numbers...
he was promoted as this lightning fast RB who would strike fear into defenses. Then he started playing, and, aside from his straight line speed, he has shown no moves, vision, or any “it” qualities.
That is just me and what I have seen for four years now…
jgibbsfan1 - February 7, 2012
What I love the best about Felix Jones:
Jerry used a first rounder on him! Freaking classic!
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
That whole draft was a joke.
Felix Jones
Michael Jenkins (also a 1st rounder)
Martellus Bennett
Tashard Choice
Orlando Scandrick
Erik Walden
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
Or genius, depending on who you root for.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
daaaaamn
Rekka - February 7, 2012
i'm not totally disagreeing
but compared to our 2008 draft it looks like the Steelers 74 draft where they got 4 HOF’s
Steve Shoup - February 7, 2012
haha yea... Bennett has been really disappointing to me, I thought he was going to be a monster.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
Well if you look beyond the numbers then there is no sense in discussion. I'll delete the post.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
Nooooooooo!!!!!
Then it’s back to everybody calling each other names and being mean because we can’t agree on a quarterback.
I like this much better.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
haha I was just kidding
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
no, you don't have to do that...
I like the new subject matter and it is an idea that gets thrown into this UFC octagon of a blog site…
jgibbsfan1 - February 7, 2012
no ty
he been worthless for dallas on a team with a better o-line good qb and good wrs. we are just fine with the 2 rookies and we got and a lower costing hightower we can resign.
munson21502 - February 7, 2012
Did you read the article?
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
yes
still a no ty. rather save a 5th round pick. and wait till next year if healthy to pick him up for free. but i really think we can get better with a 5th or 6th round pick in this years draft.
munson21502 - February 8, 2012
whos ty?
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
detmer
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
why is he talking about him
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
because that's what this post is about? what planet are you from?
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
pretty sure its about felix jones?
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
Original line was "No, thank you."
Not "No Ty Detmer. "
mkjo - February 7, 2012
oh wow
internet lingo.
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
imagine that
on the internet
PAinfUL - February 7, 2012
Dude how much glue have you sniffed today? Did you not read the long part about Ty Detmer?
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
I'm on my second bottle.
And I’m not talking glue sticks, this is rubber cement. Playground napalm.
Ahhhhhhh
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
Glue must be wafting in to my office.
I am seriously clueless now. Could be from bouncing around articles but I don’t see anything about ty detmer on this page.
mkjo - February 7, 2012
Your computer must be messed up or something. You didn't hear the news about Detmer?
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
It could be.
I’m going home and starting over tomorrow.
mkjo - February 7, 2012
Detmer's just a depth signing.
We all know Heath Shuler is retiring from Congress to come back and lead our team to victory!
tuckwell - February 7, 2012 via iPhone app
Can't stay healthy for long enough
and that same 5th round pick could be used on an RB which is Shanny’s specialty
PASS!
Rekka - February 7, 2012
Good point with Shanny, but he did do something similar with Hightower last year.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
true
but look how that one turned out (unfortunately)
Timmy also came in with injury concerns (I believe) and was lauded as a good blocker and pass catcher out of the backfield.
And Jones has been kind of a disappointment being a 1st round pick whereas Tim was drafted in the 5th round. Maybe he needs a change of scenery, but I’d rather use the pick used to get him on a young guy.
Rekka - February 7, 2012
TIMMY!
Sorry couldn’t resist.
All valid points.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
actually Hightower never had been injured before, but the rest of what you said is right
Steve Shoup - February 7, 2012
THT actually had fumble concerns, not injury.
And ACL tear is actually a freak injury so nothing really could be done.
SpartanFS47 - February 7, 2012 via mobile
did he have a kedavers acl put in him
or some other part of his body
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
btw if you tear your acl
and then have a kedaver acl inserted…..does it hurt if you tear that one too?
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
I woukdnt know cuz I had my Patella Tendon used to replace mine
Had my surgery in Sept. Usually back to action 6+ months post op and takes 1.5 years to fully recover on everage.
SpartanFS47 - February 7, 2012 via mobile
thats awful
i can’t stand we people even touch my knees
not because i tore my ACL but because i got rope burn from a boat rope behind my knees when I was little. I now punch people for touching me there. Freaks me out. I can only imagine what an acl would be like
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
I wouldnt reccomend it.
SpartanFS47 - February 7, 2012 via mobile
oh yea, my bad
Rekka - February 7, 2012
With all due respect
I am a Giants fan. The last time I hated the Redskins was when George Allen was a coach. (liked his teams but hated him) Anyway, I hope your management is capable of spotting talent in the draft because I don’t think free agent running backs are a good investment. Running backs are an interesting commodity. It’s wierd to say but a quality O-line with good blocking schemes will make your running backs look good. I have seen it with the Giants. With a good line, Barber, Jacobs, Ward, etc. are better with a group of guys up front that are capable of making holes, seams, openings etc. When Ward went to Miami after a 1000+ yardage season, he was far less than impressive, very underwhelmingand was released early. It made me understand how important offensive line player are. Your team stopped our running game and it wasn’t that difficult. Our O-line and run blockers were underwhelming. Invest in offensive linemen and pick running backs in the late rounds of the draft. There’s plenty of them out there and they will produce with good blocking.
PS I am guessing that Jacobs will probably not make the team next year and you can probably have him if he is of interest. I’m guessing that, DJ ware and Andre Brown will also be available.
murderhill - February 7, 2012
we don't need somebody who flexs after a 2 yard loss on offense
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
If your considering a bum like felix jones, Brandon is not that far of a stretch
Seriously, Felix Jones stinks and he can’t stay healthy why would you trade for him, the cowboys will cut him soon. Helu way better than he is.
Late for Dinner - February 7, 2012
Yea but heres thing, we swept the Giants and Brandon Banks said that makes us the best.
But the Cowboys swept us, which makes them the best… so Jones > Jacobs
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
haha this is great on multiple levels
Steve Shoup - February 7, 2012
This is too much like being on BBV
Most of those guys are clever idiots who’s main objective is to be clever and display giffs portraying women as sexy icons. Want one? Here’s their favorite:
I think this relates to football like canelopes relate to soccer balls.
murderhill - February 7, 2012
I can follow the logic
By the way can we have Barry back please!
Late for Dinner - February 7, 2012
Out of all the things than could ever be discussed regarding the Redskins....
As long as Shanahan is here I could care less who the RB is. He could revive my deceased grandmother and she could run for 1500 yards. I don’t believe trading with an in-conference mortal enemy is at all necessary.
Copious 1 - February 7, 2012
We say that, but how many Redskins RBs have gotten 1500 yards since Shanny has been here?
Though, I would like to see the reanimated body of your zombie grandmother playing tailback… that would be a sight.
mbedner - February 7, 2012
I don't think that should be the measuring stick, rather team yardage
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
I look at YPC. Helu and Royster both were above 4.0
like my GPA in advanced boot knocking.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
Giving roofies to elderly does not count toward your final grade. So you're still looking at a 1.8 GPA
Copious 1 - February 7, 2012
There ain't no slippin' in this pimpin'
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
That must have been why he traded for one last year...
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
Copious 1 - February 7, 2012
We sent Arizona a guy we were going to cut as dead weight.
Win. I WISH that had been in-conference.
tuckwell - February 7, 2012 via iPhone app
No Way No How!
He is often injured and will take time for our develping guy’s. Draft LaMicheal James in the 2nd or 3rd round!!!!!
FireErnieNow! - February 7, 2012
This has to be a joke.
SpartanFS47 - February 7, 2012 via mobile
The plan is to draft James and Darron Thomas.
So then when Shanny is fired after going 6-10, Redskin-1 heads directly to Eugen to pick up Chip Kelly. Hiring a run and gun, trendy college coach has never been tried before, you know?
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
The type of running back they are looking for is...
Somebody dynamic. James is that player. Fast, dangerous in open space, soft hands. Can line up in the slot if need be, PR\KR . Like a Reggie Bush or Percy Harvin. We have our power runner in Hightower, our speed guy in Helu and our move the chains/ change of pace back in Royster.
FireErnieNow! - February 7, 2012
Felix Jones has never impressed me that much.
If I had the choice between Jones, Helu or Royster I’m taking both Helu and Royster over Jones all day.
I think because of name recognition he’ll warrant a decent sized contract that won’t be equal to the production he gives.
Pass.
But I like this change of pace post.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
Now if we could get some more defensive posts
Rekka - February 7, 2012
This
SpartanFS47 - February 7, 2012 via mobile
Well, it just seems there isn't much to say about the defense.
We kind of know who will be there on defense.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
I gave you Presbyterian College's finest defensive player today, what more do you people want!?!?!
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
Homer draft pick
But I say get Bernard Pierce from Temple, he would be a nice back to add to the mix for the skins, power back with good eyes and amazing speed, only issue would be that he doesnt have a lot of experience catching the ball and was never a blocker.
Alex35332 - February 7, 2012
I like Pierce a lot, very underrated.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
Terrible kid
No thanks
Kyanz43 - February 7, 2012
Felix Jones!! Are you kidding me
The gurls don’t want him… Why? Because he can’t stay healthy.. History has shown but were talking about the skins picking him up .. So We can wait for him to get healthy and have a good game here and there get reinjured and the wait some more. Mean while the season is going down the toilet!!! NO Thank You!! I’d rather take my chances with a talented unknown rookie.
Jiza32 - February 7, 2012 via mobile
I'd like some WR posts...Besiedes QB thats prob our second biggest concern this offseason.
Chillz - February 7, 2012 via mobile
We only have 11 more weeks before the draft, your request is going to be pretty hard to fit in.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
by that time Rex can finish P90X
and we wont need to draft a QB
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
You're so naive, he does P90REX
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
This reminds me: does anyone know if the Napoleon Dynamite show is any good?
Cause the movie was terrible.
mbedner - February 7, 2012
I watched it like two weeks ago. Horrible. It will get cancelled soon.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
Excellent *best Mr. Burns voice*
mbedner - February 7, 2012
Good. There is some dude that works in my office building that has a license plate that reads P90Xer
What a tool
mbedner - February 7, 2012
wow i'd kenpo x punch him in the face
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
I've only caught a glimpse of him once,
but the harassment he must receive for wearing highwater khakis is punishment enough.
mbedner - February 7, 2012
My khakis are flood-ready today.
A good six inches above the top of the shoe.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
haha, that is one of the worst feelings in the world
When that happens to me, I feel like a jackass all day
mbedner - February 7, 2012
Yeah, my pants are safe under the desk.
The worst is when you go to pee, don’t shake enough, and then have to walk by everybody with a pee dot on your pants.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
That is rough too
mbedner - February 7, 2012
always wear black
or yellow
Al_CaPWNED - February 7, 2012
I saw a license plate the other day: PHD-2-BE
with a Duke sticker on the car. If anyone was ever more deserving of a punch in the face.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
Don't you work for Duke?
mbedner - February 7, 2012
I interned there for a while in the law school.
It was cool. The law students come from all around. It’s the undergrads that are insufferable douches.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
Now you're the bathroom attendant at Chipmunks, right?
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
They renamed it "Cheeks" but yes, same building, new management.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
I see Kevin's patronage finally paid off
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
haha +1
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
after giving the license plate mentioning the Duke Sticker was redundant I think we all knew where they going to school
Steve Shoup - February 7, 2012
Good point.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
Well try harder Parks!!(Sarcasm font)
Chillz - February 7, 2012 via mobile
I know he will go much higher than the fifth round, but I'm a big fan of Wilson from VT.
But that’s just because my mommy went there, so I’ve always been a VT fan.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
Your mom went to Vermont? She's a Catamount!
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
No, it's Vegan Technical.
All about eating healthy.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
O the ole' fightin' Cumquats
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
I think that is a tomato
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
I think letting your dog and snake play together is a bad idea.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
That dog died.
I took her to get fixed and she didn’t make it….the snake died to….we let a retread watch her while we were in cayman last january and she let the snake outside because it need fresh air….it died. They also loved each other
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
Nevertheless letting dogs and snakes play together isn't a good idea.
Ask iH8’s dog, Buffy, when he let it play with his pet Ananconda, Bella.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
Funny you say that.
My dog’s name is Bianca and my sister has one named Bella.
They’re Boston Terriers and cousins.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
*dogs...don't know why I made that possessive.
Long day.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
she owns her name
jbh1190 - February 7, 2012
It is supposed to be possessive, it is her own name
mbedner - February 7, 2012
Now that I look at it, it should be "dogs."
Kind of like “its” is possessive. Dog’s = dog is, which still doesn’t seem correct.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
Whateves, I follow your lead
You are the journalism major, after all
mbedner - February 7, 2012
I wouldn't.
Dog’s = belongs to dog
Dogs = multiple dogs
tuckwell - February 7, 2012
I know
Sometimes, it is just easier to let him think he is right…
mbedner - February 8, 2012
In case anyone is interested Steve posted another mock draft,
so we can go back to calling each other pillow-biting vagina muffins.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
haha UK and Steve posted mocks within like 3 minutes of each other.
We have HH Mock Draft 2.0 coming out tomorrow morning. It involves the whole “staff”, Ken is picking so you know it will be interesting.
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
UK has one too. Shouldn't he be picking up awards for his performance in Downton Abbey?
I should do a special iH8mockdraft.
iH8dallas - February 7, 2012
um…no
Redskin44 - February 7, 2012
Most ex-Cowboys that become Redskins don't really last to long and they aren't productive.
Besides the anomaly that is Stephen Bowen. But no thank you to Felix Jones, he runs soft and is often injured.
xxrdotxx - February 7, 2012
I'd rather use the 5th on a fresh shanny RB or on another position
Positives
- game changer/explosive
- multi-tool
- vengence vs cowboys
Negatives
- Hurt… all the time
- FA next year
- hasn’t proven he can carry a work load
- former cowboy
travisjh86 - February 7, 2012
We would pretty much be giving up a 5th round pick for a one year rental
ENsDad27 - February 7, 2012
terrible idea
this is what you came up with today?
davetrembling - February 7, 2012
Thanks for your contributions Dave
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
still like you though.
keep up the good work
davetrembling - February 7, 2012
haha thanks
Parks Smith - February 7, 2012
Doesn't make sense to give up anything for another RB if Hightower is healthy.
I could see bringing in a veteran during training camp to compete and stiff up the competition but if Hightower is healthy then it’s obvious we are set. Don’t like Felix Jones anyway, not just because he plays for the Cowpies but because he’s not a solid RB.
xocnodnarb - February 8, 2012
You know who I think could be a steal in the draft, especially in the ZBS?
Bryce Brown from Tennessee, character concerns but talented.
Parks Smith - February 8, 2012
