A sister site to SB Nation, Outsports.com, spoke with over a dozen NFL players about homophobia in sports. It's quite an interesting article as Ahman Green talks about having two gay siblings and RG3 shares his experiences of having a gay teammate in High School:
"When he came out, he stopped playing," Griffin said. "He might have stopped playing because of the negative feedback he might have gotten from being that on the football team. So, I think that's probably why he ended up quitting."
It was from that out player that Griffin learned a gay teammate poses no threat.
"Just because they're gay doesn't mean they're hitting on you," he said.
Update 1:50PM: via @adbrandt: Am told by league source that Cowboys and Redskins are issuing a joint statement saying they accept the decision. Case closed.
NFL.com reporter, Jeff Darlington, just reported that the Redskins lost their challenge regarding the salary cap penalty:
@JeffDarlington - News from Pash: The arbitrator has rejected challenge filed by Redskins & Cowboys on salary cap situation, granting NFL's motion to dismiss claim.
Is any one really shocked Goodell would win this battle even though collusion was obvious? It'll be interesting to see what Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen publicly say now.
Here's a photo summarizing this story and the outcome.....
The Redskins' current Safety depth chart to put it bluntly is messy: Brandon Meriweather (recent law troubles), Tanard Jackson are penciled in at Free Safety, and Madieu Williams joins the two holdovers, Reed Doughty and DeJon Gomes at Strong Safety. With 7th round draft pick Jordan Bernstine from Iowa trying to win a roster spot, I asked former Redskins and Hawkeyes' safety, Matt Bowen, what it'll take for him to excel in Washington:
Bernstine played both Safety positions at Iowa, which spot do you think he'd excel at most in D.C and the NFL? I tend to think in that SS Laron Landry role where he's physical and close to the line of scrimmage.
Bowen: Bernstine is an "in the box" safety at this stage of his development. At Iowa, the Hawks were a zone team and their core scheme was Cover 6 (Quarter, Quarter, Half). Bernstine is the type of safety that can align off the ball, read his run/pass key and fill downhill with speed.
Bernstine has special teams skills, but do you think it's enough to crack the 53-man roster or is he a practice squad guy?

I get that the RG3 highlights are getting exhaustive at this point, but it's a slow news week day. Therefore, I decided to go back even further...to Copperas Cove High School, RG3's High School Alma Mater located smack in the middle of nowhere between San Antonio and Texas.

The NFLPA teamed up with Nike to host a Flag Football Game tonight at 8PM EST. It's a free fan event during Rookie Premiere featuring past and present NFL stars, celebrities, and 2012 NFL rookies. Thirty five of the top draft picks are on hand to meet fans including Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Trent Richardson, Justin Blackmon, Ryan Tannehill, Michael Floyd, and Brandon Weeden.
SB Nation's own Joel Thorman interviewed RG3 today and here's everything RG3 had to say. I like it A LOT that RG's locker is next to London Fletcher's.
What's he doing now: "Work, signatures, doing events and learning the playbook."
On the Shanahans: "Big Mike is what I like to call him, he'll talk to you after practice. Kyle is more hands on, and an energetic guy. They plan on using me in a few ways, running the ball and throwing the ball. The bottom line is to win."
On the transition to the NFL: "It's just the playbook. when it comes to the speed of the game, you'll adjust. You just adjust to it. It's the playbook so I can learn everything and know where I'm going and be decisive."
On meeting his teammates: "I've thrown to all the receivers, met the lineman and pretty much everyone on the team. My locker is right next to London Fletcher's."
We all know RG3 tore his ACL in a game vs Northwestern State in 2009. What I wasn't aware of was that RG3 went back into the game the next series.
Griffin got hurt when he was tackled hard by Gary Riggs and stopped for no gain on fourth-and-2 to end the game's opening drive. The standout sophomore remained on the ground for several minutes while Baylor students chanted his name, then walked gingerly to the sideline.
But Griffin, with his knee and lower right leg heavily wrapped, didn't missed a snap before halftime. Griffin then led Baylor to four touchdowns in an eight-minute span...
Griffin did not return for the second half. Here's video of the play gone bad and RG3 talking about the play (he thought he hyper-extended it). It's good to know that if RG3 tears his ACL in the Super Bowl, coaches can tell Grossman to keep that helmet off. It is worth mentioning that the Northwestern State Demons finished 0-11 that year. Note to Shanny...no speed options in the Redskins playbook, please.
Tim Hightower was on Lavar and Dukes yesterday talking Redskins and his one-year contract with the Redskins:
How's the rehab coming?
"Good. Good. It's...I am definitely on the better end of it. I'm able to do some things on the field now with running around and cutting. You know getting back to doing what I do. It's definitely a good feeling."
Do you feel like you'll have a better opportunity this year with Robert Griffin III as the quarterback?
"That's not guaranteed. I'm optimistic from that standpoint that he is very talented and he's a playmaker. Anytime you are around playmakers it's not going to do anything, but help, but that is not guaranteed.
